Stills I took from one of Ryan Trecartin’s art films.

I learnt about Ryan Trecartin when I was draw to an image of his in the creative writing Pop art workshop and I had to make some writing around his work. 

After the workshop I decided to research into Trecartin’s work more it really inspired me. He makes the most eccentric and out there art films and they were really interesting to watch. I took the stills in the post from one of his videos as I thought his use of colour and editing was a great source of inspiration for the film work I want to make. 

Found my mums copy of David Hockney’s ‘A Bigger Picture’ a collection of his work and writings in what has turned out to be a very interesting read that has taken up a lot of my time in lockdown! 

Maise Cousins

Maisie Cousins is an incredible contemporary Pop artist and photographer that I rediscovered over the course of my time at home in quarantine. I had done a photo series based on her work for my Art Level and I found some of my old work whilst Ive been home. Finding her work again was so useful!! I wanted to create an art film but due to Covid-19 I am now back in the countryside but still wanted to make something. Maisie Cousins beautiful saturated Pop Art images of flowers and liquid and flesh really helped inform my latest experiments in film.

The Re’Search (Re’search Wait’S)

This was interesting to look at as it includes the photos of Ryan Trecartins’ exhibition space in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Its exciting to see how an artist who works mostly in film can still create an engrossing viewing space for his audience. The way that the space mimics the sets in his videos I found created a very absorbing and experimental show space. 

Alex Katz is not only an amazing painter but a very interesting artist and person and I found reading this article about what inspires him, the work he's till making at such an old age and his thoughts on the art world incredibly interesting. 

“You know, pretty girls, flowers, you can’t be serious. I refuse to make sincere art. Sincere art is art that relies on subject matter to carry it. An honest painter is one who doesn’t paint very well. And it shows!”
