Yes, but the spirit of Tolkien’s works is wholly Christian – for example, letting Gollum live, and sending the Ring into Mordor, are both very dangerous and one who believed they were on their own in a harsh world, like Boromir and Denethor and Saruman (and Maedhros, and Fëanor) did, would never have done those things. Frodo succeeded only because he showed up and did all that was asked of him and showed mercy and love - in fact, Frodo technically didn’t succeed at all, but that’s all right because the power of evil is not ultimately resistable by incarnate creatures, and the Writer of the Story is not any one of us (which I thought was a quote from Tolkien but apparently isn’t), and so everyone does what they are asked to and everything falls into place from there thanks to divine Providence. Everyone good in these stories (other than most of the Silmarillion, I guess, because Tolkien wanted to write a tragedy) clings to faith, hope, and love and succeeds thereby. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, Frodo was meant to have it, and that last scene of LOTR where Sam comes home is both the whole point of the story and foresung all along.

Something that really pisses me off is this assumption that because you dislike the current direction with Loki and Thor’s characters, it must mean that you “hate comedy” and “want everything to be serious and gloomy”. As if the only form of comedy that exists is weird, random antics. What is this attitude that thor and loki were never funny in the previous films? The only difference is that the comedy was formed based on their personalities and conflicts with other people or situations, rather than just them being stupid or quirky.
