Intelligent alien species based on bugs but specifically those moths that don’t have mouths and only live for a week after they pupate. This species’ whole conscious life is actually in the larval phase; larvae are the ones considered people, larvae are the ones with conscious and complex brains who build society, and each instar of the larva is treated as a different phase of life. Larvae become emotionally and socially and cognitively mature without ever becoming sexually mature. When they pupate, they metamorphose into something different and strange and close to mindless, with no mouth and no digestive system, whose only instincts are to mate and then quickly die. Metamorphosis is treated, functionally, like a person’s death, and the imago phase is a kind of proto-afterlife of majestic flight and the continuation of the species. Birth and death inextricably intertwined. Sex is not something people do during their lives, it’s a thing that is done as an imago after you’ve passed on from your life but before you return to the soil in death. Resultant eggs are collected by family members to raise. I think this would be fun.
Maddie Fenton is called to the school by Danny's teacher. The reason? The teacher thinks Danny has problems because he draws questionable things and talks about dead people that he can see or whatever and also too about having an uncle who looks like a vampire that devours/eat his ghosts friends
Maddie looks at the drawings, but she doesn't see anything strange or alarming like the teacher makes it seem.
Maddie: mmm okey....
Teacher: I think Danny should see a psychologist, Mrs. Fenton and bla bla bla
Maddie stops paying attention to the teacher talking, since something among her kid's creative drawings has caught her attention.
Maddie's thoughts "So it was Vlad who caught that level 9 ghost..."
When someone is talking about "Phandom", which fandom are they referring to to you?
Dan & Phil
Phantom of the Opera
Danny Phantom
Phineas & Ferb
Project Hail Mary
OP you forgot:
Last November, I did a poll like this, and though it was close, Danny Phantom lost to Dan and Phil. That was right around when they did their comeback or wedding announcement or whatever it was though, so I guess that phandom just doesn't have staying power.
Phantom of the Opera also has a much bigger slice, which is funny. Did something happen to them that I don’t know about?
Alright I want to know something here:
the 🙃 emoji means (approximately)

kindly reblog for bigger sample size, thanks!

When Zuko apologized to uncle Iroh in the tent cause he was so ashamed of his actions and what he’d done to the only person who unconditionally believed in his ability to do good >>>>>
So okay, I’ve given this rant before but this is another good time for it.
Structurally speaking, ATLA did something important with Zuko that, in a purely mechanistic sense of narrative development, I think a lot of people don’t notice immediately, and that even fewer people who want to emulate what was done with him get.
Which is Zuko is made a protagonist VERY early, and the show goes out of its way to continually place Zuko into situations where the audience empathizes and roots for him.
This happens in literally the second episode of the series, if we count the two-part premiere as a single episode, which I think we should. The A-plot of that episode, “The Southern Air Temple,” is Aang reckoning with the genocide of his people… but the B-plot?
The B-plot is the introduction of Zhao, and more specifically, his introduction in a way that is calculate to shift the audience, whose introduction to Zuko did NOT engender a ton of sympathy to him, directly and forcefully onto his side. They want Zuko to kick Zhao’s ass.
This continues all through book one and book two. Remember, Zuko is never, ever the main villain of this series. That’s initially Zhao, followed by Azula and Ozai. (Plus various temporary players like Long Feng.) Whenever Zuko isn’t placed into direct conflict with the other protagonists, he’s always written and presented in a way that is careful, VERY VERY careful, not to make him too monstrous, and to make us root for him. He’s placed right next to Iroh, who is designed for people to like, and that reflects back onto Zuko; we want Zuko to be better than he is because we want Iroh to have good things.
Put aside for the moment whether any specific character, including Zuko, deserves their redemption. If you’ve decided you’re going to do that, you have to erect the proper narrative scaffolding around them, and it extends to far more things than “did this person not do things that were too horrible” and “is this person genuinely sorry and is working really hard to atone.” There’s a difference between protagonist and white hat, but if you want someone to eventually wear that white hat, you REALLY need to establish them as a plausible protagonist early on.
Yeah, it was made obvious from the get go that Zuko is definitely nowhere near Zhao’s level of nasty, which in turn means he’s nowhere near Azula’s and nowhere in the scope of Ozai’s.
1.)
He made a deal with Aang to leave the Southern Water Tribe alone if Aang went with him. When Aang escaped with help from two of those tribe members, Zuko didn’t demand they go back and destroy what was left of the tribe as revenge. He didn’t even think of it as an option. There was no split second where he went, should I/shouldn’t I?
2.)
This is repeated. He corners the Avatar somewhere, causes some damage to the area in the ensuing fight, but does not stick around to raze the village/monastery to the ground and kill the people when he doesn’t get what he wants. Doesn’t consider this a necessary action even once.
3.)
The Iroh&Zuko relationship is juxtaposed with the Zhao&Zuko relationship. Both older men have more power over him. Iroh is a retired War General and Prince who is not banished. Zhao is a Commander in favor of the Firelord, who is also not banished. We could tell early on that Iroh is wise and despite being on the bad side, seems to be pretty chill. We took a liking to him immediately. Zhao is the opposite. He is very much like early!Zuko. Impulsive, rude, loud, cocky, etc… But why is he more annoying? Why do we root for Zuko as opposed to him?
Because we see what Zuko is like with his Uncle Iroh. Iroh does not rub in the fact that he’s banished. He doesn’t use that when reprimanding him for his attitude or his failings. That is a hot iron and he knows it. It’s to the point where Iroh can bend fire in Zuko’s face and Zuko is perfectly relaxed over it and doesn’t once believe his uncle will hurt him. There is a lot of faith in Iroh, from this angsty teenager, and it’s very obvious with their interactions.
Zhao is not trustworthy from the start. We’re shown this by how both Zuko and Iroh are hesitant to interact with him and don’t want to linger in areas he has control over, for too long. They even lie to him despite him obviously having more favor in the Firelord’s eyes than either of them do. Zhao’s personality opposes both Zuko and Iroh. And as we like Iroh, we want him to win and have nice things, as stated above. But Zuko&Iroh is a package deal. And as Zhao reveals himself more and more to be nasty even if it’s subtle, we want Zuko to win even harder.
And even when Zuko wins and he’s in the prime position to do to Zhao what Ozai did to Zuko for also ‘speaking out of turn’… he doesn’t do it. He walks away. He is the bigger man in that scenario. And Iroh further puts shame onto Zhao when he goes against the sacred rules of the Agni Kai because he can’t handle a loss to a banished teen. We are shown that Zuko follows rules and has honor, which is reinforced by Iroh’s, ‘even in exile, my nephew is more honorable than you’. Iroh’s Word is basically Law at this point. Sf he says it is so, then he must be right and the audience accepts that. He knows Zuko better than us and hopefully we’ll get to understand more as the story progresses.
Already by the 3rd episode, we’re shown that Zuko is in no way the worst person from the Fire Nation. In fact, we’re given a sort of scale now from the four major Fire Nation people we know of. Iroh–Zuko——-Zhao–Firelord.
We’re also hoping that Iroh rubs off on Zuko enough for him to also become wise and learn to chill out.
4.)
When “The Storm” finally rolls around, we’re pretty invested by then in the Iroh&Zuko relationship and that episode gives us so much more info into Zuko’s character and we are shown that Iroh is right. He has honor and he cares for others. And yet it’s obvious the Firelord doesn’t because we see Zuko do the right thing(protesting the plan to treat new recruits as cannon fodder) in the wrong place, and then his face gets burned off by his father because of it. And further, he’s banished for refusing to fight his own father. What sane parent wants to do battle with their own child? What sane parent banishes their child for speaking out of turn at the defense of their own peoples’ lives? What the fuck is wrong with the Firelord?
Zuko was punished severely for showing compassion and having a kind heart. And Iroh(and the ship crew even) is properly mortified by the punishments his nephew received for it, which in turn affects the audience’s perception of this situation. Iroh doesn’t like it, it’s especially bad then.
Now we start wondering why does Zuko wants to go back to the guy who burned his face off?! Iroh, talk some sense into him! PLEASE!
Halfway through S1, they got us to the point of wanting Zuko to have a redemption arc.
Making the audience want a character to be redeemed is also very important in this. We were shown he has redeemable qualities. We want that pay off! Do it justice!
I love him!!!
Here's me trying to interpret how Danny's hazmat suit would look like if it were more realistic, based on my experience with biohazard PPE.
I feel like I also need to add a disclaimer to not use this as safety advice. Please consult your local health and safety guidelines prior to handling ectoplasm, ecto-contaminated materials, and/or ectobiological organisms!
Do you think Valerie ever just—
The wig is off, and so are all bets.
idk i just always imagined her wearing one of those wigs with the headbands attached. Probably pretty useful to be able to take off all that length when you fight people as often as she does (even without the ghost hunting, she is also a black belt)
i hate the word spicy can we bring back calling things erotic

Avengers/Gravity Falls crossover where instead of having Selvig be the scientist called in to deal with the interdimensional portal, SHIELD contacts Ford (and Stan, by association) to help them out. Ford, of course, still manages to get himself mind-controlled.
I know both Gravity Falls and the first Avengers movie take place in 2012 so I think it would be hilarious if Stan and Ford have been having retirement boat adventures for like, a month max, before SHIELD swoops in out of nowhere and kidnaps them to be their multiversal consultant.
I also think it would be hilarious if SHIELD hasn't fully figured out the details of the whole identity theft situation, so they think a) Stanford Pines is some guy who built a multiversal portal twice thirty years apart, and b) Stanley Pines is still dead.
*Stan Pines voice* SIXER IF YOU DON'T STOP GETTING YOURSELF MIND CONTROLLED BY YELLOW THINGS FROM OTHER DIMENSIONS I'M GOING TO LOSE MY SHIT
*Ford Pines voice* Stanley if you don't stop yelling at me with this headache I am going to be forced to perform cognitive recalibration on you, repeatedly.
disposable SHIELD agent: oh no, for convoluted plot reasons we suddenly have to have someone pretend to be Stanford Pines in front of Loki! Who could possibly pull off such a switch!
Stan, already digging in Ford's backpack for one of his turtlenecks: *heavy sigh* I have it handled.
Steve: Are you sure you can impersonate your brother well enough to trick Loki?
Stan: Kid, I impersonated Sixer for thirty years. I'll be fine.
Fury, putting a lot of things together at once: motherf-
The mystery twins see Ford doing Evil Scientist Things on TV while he's still being mind controlled by Loki, so in the middle of *gestures* all of that, the Avengers get to witness a truly baffling phone call that they only hear from Stan's end that goes something like:
Stan: kids? what? it's okay, I'm fine, everything's fine Stan: no no, that's your Grunkle Ford on television. yes, he's been mind controlled again, we have everything handled Stan: Bill is NOT back, this is someone else. yes, I'm sure. yes, I'm sure. Stan: NO we're not going to wipe his memory, don't worry, we have other options Stan: no don't tell your parents it's fine everything is being handled Stan: he's trying to open a portal to space- stop screaming, it's just to space, not another dimension- kids- kids please stop panicking- kids- Stan: I promise I'll get him back. Kids, I spent thirty years getting him out of the multiverse, I can get him away from some alien god. Yes. Yes. Okay. Yes. I promise. Yes. Okay, I love you kids. Yes Mabel, I promise I'll try to punch the alien in the face. Okay, I have to go, bye kids.
Avengers:
Stan: What, do I have something on my face?
Stan, consolingly: At least you didn't fall in love with him, this time
Ford: Will you EVER let that one go?
Stan: YOU FUCKED THE TRIANGLE, STANFORD
Tony: He HUH.
Ford: I did not have intercourse with Bill, we just had- an intimate sort of relationship-
Tony: What do you mean, a TRIANGLE
Stan: He fucked the triangle
Stan isn't able to participate in the battle proper due to being Like Sixty Years Old And Not Superpowered, but he does manage to punch Loki in the face after he's captured. For Mabel <3
Tony and Bruce both want the Stans to stay behind to talk all about portals and other dimensions and physics and stuff, but both twins are like "are you fucking kidding me? look at where portals got you the first time. we're not helping you build any more goddamn portals, let us go back to retirement on our boat PLEASE"

Pfft just imagined in a Halfa Dash au, Vlad would like to discuss football but then becomes Dash's enemy because he doesn't like the packers. XD
Just thought that be funny scenario XD
speaking as someone from illinois:
if, in this au, you take the typical fan interpretation that amity park is in illinois, then dash is probably a bears fan. i can tell you from first-hand experience that the animosity between bears fans and packers fans is INTENSE. like, if someone’s wearing a green bay hat in a bears-supporting establishment, they are just ASKING to be heckled by strangers all night long.
with that in mind, this is a perfectly reasonable scenario even it isn’t a halfa dash au—he’d probably go off on vlad for being a packers fan when he finds out regardless XD
to illustrate: one time i tried to get my brother (who loves football) to watch DP, and when he found out vlad’s a packers fan he looked me dead in the eye and said “yeah that’s a good team for a villain to like.”

"Tucker placed a hand on Danny’s shoulder. 'Dude, you have to wake up.'"
The ghosts had been attacking nonstop for days, and Danny didn’t know why.
His parents had probably left the portal open or something, but he hadn’t been home to check. He’d never been so grateful to be on summer break—he would’ve had to miss at least two full days of school, and not just because of the all-nighters.
What was extra frustrating was that the attacks weren’t even anything crazy. Just the usual animals and ectopuses (octopi? octopeese?), with the occasional rogue mixed in. There were just so many of them—it seemed like every time he thought it was over, he’d turn around and see another green raccoon hissing at him from a dumpster.
Valerie was out of town, his parents were off the field, and he didn’t want to drag his friends into danger. So, he was on his own. It had gotten to the point where he stopped fighting the ones he deemed unlikely to hurt anyone; he simply didn’t have time for them all—he needed to prioritize.
Johnny had taken one look at him a few hours ago and walked away, not even bothering to pick a fight.
Danny didn’t know the reason behind that, either.
“Yeesh, kid,” was all Johnny had said before he left. “You don’t look so good. I’ll come back when you’re more . . . yourself.”
All that had done was make Danny self-conscious and realize it had been well over 24 hours since he’d last showered. Or slept.
Only, he wasn’t really tired. A bit fatigued, maybe, but he didn’t think he could sleep right now if he wanted to.
He wasn’t hungry, either. That was weird. Maybe it just hadn’t caught up with him yet. Adrenaline, or whatever.
Around noon, when he finally hit a lull in the wave of small threats, Danny let himself take a break to find food, figuring he’d probably get hungry as soon as he started eating.
He touched down in a secluded alley near the Nasty Burger. Just as he was about to transform, a noise from the alley’s mouth made him pause.
“Danny?”
He knew that voice. It was smaller and softer than usual, but it was unmistakably Sam’s.
Danny turned to find his friend watching him apprehensively. Her hair was limp and unstyled, her face bare of makeup, and she was wearing a set of baggy sweats she rarely donned outside of her own house.
“Sam?” Danny asked, concerned. “Are you okay?” She almost never dressed like that, even when she was sick. Something must be seriously wrong.
“No,” she answered, her voice thick, as if she’d been crying.
“Sorry, standard question. What’s wrong?”
“Come with me.”
She walked away from the alley, in the direction of FentonWorks, and Danny obediently followed. Sam pulled out her phone, focusing solely on it as she walked. Rather than transforming (human him probably reeked), Danny turned invisible so no one would see her hanging out with a ghost.
He tried to see what she was typing, but her phone was bobbing too much with her steps for him to read anything.
Finally, she put her phone away, and looked up. Whipping her head around, she frantically asked, “Danny?”
“Still here. Didn’t want to subject you to my B.O.”
“Oh,” she sighed, visibly calming. “Thanks, I guess.”
“So, what’s up?” Danny drifted to her side, matching her pace even as he floated instead of walked.
“We’re meeting up with Tuck and Jazz. We’ll explain then.”
Alarm bells immediately started ringing in Danny’s mind. What could possibly be so bad that she didn’t want to tell him herself?
~~~
Jazz’s arm was in a sling. That was the first thing Danny noticed when he and Sam met up with her and Tucker in Jazz’s bedroom.
“What happened?” Danny demanded, resuming visibility as he flew to dote on his sister.
She swept him up in a massive one-armed hug.
They stayed that way for longer than Danny thought was really necessary. Finally, she released him, but she didn’t answer his question for a long moment.
He studied her while he waited. Jazz’s usually perfect hair was unkempt, and her face, like Sam’s, was abnormally makeup-free.
Tucker didn’t look much better. His eyes were bloodshot, and his signature red beret was in his hands, revealing tangled curls.
“Danny,” Jazz said slowly, making an unsettling amount of direct eye-act. “How long have you been out?”
“Out fighting ghosts?” he asked. “Like, two whole days. I barely remember the last time I ate—“
“What’s the last thing you do remember?” Jazz interrupted.
Danny’s thoughts screeched to a halt. What was that supposed to mean?
“Uh, last thing I did was trap a couple nutty ghost squirrels in the thermos, then I was gonna get food when Sam found me.”
“No, before that. Before you went out yesterday. Where did you wake up? What did you do the night before?”
“I . . .”
That should have been easy to answer, but Danny came up blank.
He couldn’t remember.
“I must be more tired than I thought,” he mumbled, staring at his boots.
Jazz made a weird groaning noise deep in her throat. He looked up to see her eyes welling with tears.
Tucker placed a hand on Danny’s shoulder. “Dude, you have to wake up.”
“Shut up,” Danny snarked, brushing off his friend’s hand and staring at him as if he’d lost his mind. Tucker always pulled pranks like this at the absolute worst times.
Seriously, someone must have gotten hurt, or, or—
“Where are Mom and Dad?”
“They’re safe,” Sam said. “They’re, um. They’re with you.”
“I swear on my life, man, I’m not playing,” Tucker said. “You’ve been in a coma for the past week. We’ve been trying to track you down since we first saw you flying around yesterday morning.”
“What?” He felt his eyes flare bright as he whirled, whipping his head between the trio.
“It’s true,” Sam said.
Jazz only nodded.
“But, that can’t be . . . I’m not—”
Sam ever-so-gently brushed his hair with her fingertips. “Danny, when’s the last time you looked in a mirror?” She was crying now, too, and Danny suddenly understood why she’d foregone the heavy eye makeup.
“I—I don’t . . .”
“We were in an accident.” Jazz said, her voice wobbling. “The RV . . . You know how Dad drives. He and Mom were unharmed, just some mild whiplash. I broke my arm, and you . . .” She sobbed, almost incoherent as she finished, “You’re in the hospital.”
“Your parents are visiting you right now,” Sam continued quietly. “The doctors don’t know when, or—or if you’ll wake up.”
Danny felt like he’d been punched.
“No,” he said, pulling away farther and shaking his head furiously. “No, you’re pranking me, I—”
He turned tail and ran.
~~~
Flinging himself through the bathroom wall, Danny flicked on the lights and braced himself on the edge of the sink. He could feel his arms shaking as he slowly raised his head to examine his reflection.
When he saw the face looking back at him, he choked on a scream.
He looked so . . . so ghostly, and not in the way he usually did as a ghost.
He was so much less substantial. Less . . . himself.
He was almost transparent, his pale, green-tinged face so thin he could clearly make out the walls behind him. His white hair floated lazily around his head, completely untethered from gravity.
Something flickered in his periphery. He turned to find a knee-length white cape cascading from his shoulders.
He could understand not noticing the other changes, but how had he missed that?
“Danny!” Jazz called, rapping on the other side of the door. “Look, I know this is a lot, but I just want you to know we’re waiting right out here, whenever you’re ready to talk!”
A lot. Yeah, right. He barely looked human. Heck, he barely looked solid enough to hold off an ectopus, much less wrangle as many ghosts as he had in the last few days. How had he even managed? It looked like a slight breeze would be all it took to blow him away.
This was a heck of a lot more than a lot.
His body was in the hospital. That was what they meant, wasn’t it? The closest thing he could compare this to was that time with the Ghost Catcher, when Phantom-him was flying around, fighting ghosts as a full-time superhero.
A coma. Dang. And it wasn’t even his fault.
He supposed that explained how he was able to keep going for so long without taking care of his body. His body was already being taken care of!
He laughed humorlessly, edging on hysterically. This sucked.
But it was okay, it had to be okay. Now he knew, and that meant he could fix this.
Surely, he could fix this.
Right?
Bracing himself, he slammed open the door and said, “Show me.”
~~~
Sneaking into a hospital is easy when you can turn invisible.
All Danny needed to do was extend his invisibility to Jazz, Sam, and Tucker, and they were able to guide him past the receptionist, up the stairs, and down the corridor to the children’s wing of South Mercy Hospital.
As a single unit, they wove through the brightly-colored rooms, stopping before a vibrant blue door. When Jazz confirmed this was the one, he phased them through.
Danny released his sister and friends before floating to the bed.
There was someone sleeping in it.
A disturbingly familiar someone.
The boy in the bed’s face was sallow, his undereyes hollow, and he was hooked up to all kinds of beeping and whirring machines. But Danny would recognize that face anywhere—it was the same one he saw (almost) every time he looked in the mirror.
That was him, alright.
It was the strangest feeling, looking at himself from the outside like this. It was one he’d experienced before, several times—yet never quite like this.
His consciousness wasn’t actively split into halves. This wasn’t a clone, or a version of him from another timeline; this was him. His actual, personal, unconscious body, with all of what made him him outside of it.
He glanced at Jazz, Sam, and Tucker in turn. He had an idea, but he had no idea if it would work. Either way, he had to try.
Danny steeled himself, then flew back into his body.
Ghost Of A Titan
This is a DPxPJO story idea I’ve been playing around with, I will eventually turn this into an actual fic but until then feel free to continue yourselves!
Anyway. I love me some ghost!dad Clockwork and I thought it would result in some very interesting in dynamics the PJO universe, so go crazy with it! ;)
You can’t just kill Time itself, cut it into tiny bits and cast the remains into Tartarus and not expect that to backfire spectacularly.
So when the Olympian Gods had to do just that, there was two paths for what would happen next:
Option one, with the killing of Time, time itself would stop existing. Which was never anybody’s favourite idea, since that meant that everything else would also become Stopped.
And then there was option two, upon Time’s death and during the fracturing of its soul, Time could refuse to let go. Could refuse so strongly that while the rest of Time lay dead and scattered in the underworld, part of Time’s soul would break away to form a ghost, one of ancient power and with the singleminded goal of keeping the timelines flowing as they should.
Fortunately, Time went with the second option.
Danny shows up at Half-Blood Camp and immediately gets claimed.
But he's so confused because he's 146% sure he's the son of his parents (they did DNA tests for a class project and fun) and neither of his parents are gods!
And just when everyone thinks Danny is simply ignorant, he suddenly changes his story
"Ah, now it all makes sense! But honestly, couldn't you have warned me before dropping me off at some unknown camp!"
aw man, the pool’s closed :(
