Dear Reddit, recently my 17 year old has been pretty down. I asked them what was wrong and they told me their favorite mind craft creator by the name of Dream, known for his rp series, was outed to be a Trump supporter. How do I deal with my child being so lame? Should I just let my wife handle this?
We sharing anaesthetic stories?? I had to have dental surgery when i was in middle school.
According to my mom and sister the very first thing i did upon waking up was BOLT upright and proceed to try and shove my ENTIRE fist in my mouth as fast as possible.
I had to be physically stopped, and i proceeded to sob my eyes out for the next 20 minutes. Somehow, i didnt damage anything đ¤Ł
sorry that imagery is so vivid i just..
?????LOL
hey op Iâm fucking dying at these
he's just a sad little blob :(
why is this so fucking funny
why is this so fucking funny
Do you have any tips for an lgbtq+ person in the closet?
This might seem weird but...
Try not to feel pressured to come out if you don't feel it's safe to do so!
Recently, we have made great strides in progress for gender equality, and lgbtqa rights, and in many aspects parallel of those. That's great!
As a result, for many people, the visibility of their identities have made it easier to come out, and many people are now encouraged to come out to normalize non-binary gender identity.
However, I get the feeling that many people for whom it is not feasible to come out, not safe to do so, or if they're simply not ready, there is an unfair pressure to perform this 'coming out' ritual to validate themselves. As if they're not 'REALLY' gay, or bi, or trans, or nonbinary until they announce it on all social media and call up their relatives to 'do the paperwork'.
And I think that's frankly bullshit.
Coming out is not a one-and-done deal. It's a tedious process that never ends. My closest friends know I'm nonbinary - but many of my coworkers don't. My family doesn't - and I don't feel it's necessary to tell them.
Your identity should be yours, and what you do with it should be up to you. Just like any other aspect of yourself, it doesn't need to be public any more than you personally feel is necessary, and you shouldn't have to expose parts of your life you would prefer to keep private.
When and if you're ready to tell the world, it should be a joyous and comfortable occasion, not something you're forced into through peer pressure.

I canât get over this lmaooo
ok, after actually looking up the term and doing some goddamn research (my goodness somebody on the internet actually decided to look something up before forming an opinion, dear god what a day), i can pretty safely say that everyone hitting this post with the âthatâs just a friendship!â bit is wrong! and i can explain why! i myself didnât get this initially! but after looking into it, i realized that itâs mainly due to the framework i was thinking in! Yeah, thereâs actually merit to what these people are saying, this is stuff thatâs been considered and these are indeed terms that exist! they were also coined by ace people specifically to describe their relationships! So what gives? What does Queerplatonic Relationship mean? well i certainly fucking didnt get it at first, but it stems from attempting to define a kind of relationship that there arent really words for in the standard english lexicon! the poster above me is a TERF, and wherever i see myself agreeing with a terf i also see that thereâs possibly some flaw in my logic or understanding of the thing. Basically (mind you this is only some very cursory and basic research, just type the term into google lol), QPRâs are a way of defining a relationship that has many of the same obligations and aspects of a traditional romantic relationship, without any of the explicitly romantic parts that come with having a spouse or romantic partner.
the idea of living in the same place, or jointly bringing up children, and performing many other tasks as a kind of unit that society would often mislabel as something done by two romantic partners in a union of some kind (i use that term to loosely define an exclusive relationship, not actual binding marriage, though this can include such). the idea of the QPR isnât just âfriendsâ, itâs very specifically âindividuals in a platonic relationship that perform a number of the social aspects of a traditional romantic partnershipâ.
like, be real for a second. if someone described their relationship with someone to you and said âYeah we own a house together, we have a kid that we adopted and take care of, we decided to get a dog last week and we file taxes as two members of the same household.â, you wouldnât look at that person and assume that they arent romantic/sexual partners of some kind, because... well, traditionally, thatâs shit that married people do. getting hit with the additional âYup! And weâre not romantically or sexually involved at all! She has a boyfriend that she visits on the weekends and Iâve never had a romantic relationship in my life.â would throw you for a goddamn loop! What would you even call that relationship? and thatâs where the term comes from: an attempt to define a very specific kind of relationship that certainly can and has existed, but isnât commonly recognized or talked about!
so i think everyone shitting on these folks owes them an apology, i know i personally do for making assumptions that clearly werenât true!
So, Iâm not ace or aro and this stuff (âyou mean friends, right?â) still pisses me off big time.
Romantic relationships are a tangled up knot of things that can be untangled if you want to. Thereâs sex, thereâs romance, and thereâs partnership/social couplehood, like this is talking about. Any of those can be separated. You can have partnership without romantic love, or romantic love without being a social couple. You can have sex without romance or romance without sex. (Well, some people can anyways.) Any of those can be taken together or pulled apart.
Friendships are lovely, meaningful, and sometimes transformative. Theyâre also not generally socially respected on the same level as family or even as non-married romantic partners: if you go to a wedding with a friend, people assume you couldnât get a date. Being part of a couple is privileged and socially reinforced, especially when a couple is legally married but even for unmarried couples, in a way that friendship is not. Having a breakup, even if youâd fallen out of love a long time ago, is seen as an event that automatically requires social support and sympathy in a way that a friendship ending does not.
Iâve been in multiple situations where I very much wanted to tie my life to another person in a couple-like way, whether romance was involved or not. Iâve pretty much given up on trying to have that kind of thing though, because 1. the other person never seemed to be interested in me to the same degree that I was interested in them, and 2. even if they had, nobody else would recognize what we had as a partnership.
âSo a group of friends?â Go fuck yourself.
This pisses me right off, and I canât imagine how much more frustrating this is for people who donât have conventional sexual/romantic relationships as a viable alternative because the way they relate to people just doesnât work like that.
Sigh. For what itâs worth, some of us donât have any an initial âI donât get itâ that we need to overcome, we already get that the romantic/sexual/social knot doesnât actually have to remain tied.
(I mean, itâs ok for anyone where that was your first reaction too, itâs ok to not know things. But, just saying, this isnât actually rocket science or some completely alien and incomprehensible concept either.)
I suspect some people are going to read this and not understand my level of anger. So let me explain it this way. Iâm a woman. (Sort of.) Iâm bisexual. Letâs say for the sake of argument I have a homophobic family (which I donât) and when I had a crush on a man theyâd take it really seriously and encourage me, but when I had a crush on a woman theyâd...just kind of not talk about it or be âoh, but you can be friends, right?â and âhowâs that friend of yours doing?â If I was pissed as hell about that, it would make sense right, and youâd get that my anger had nothing to do with how I see friendship?
This is not any different.
It is profoundly insulting to take someoneâs desire for social couplehood (or social...polyculeness, or whatever) and tell them theyâre talking about friendship. Not because thereâs anything wrong with friendship. But because if someone committed to spending their life with a friend, would you go to their wedding?
I just...having gotten married, you know, thereâs so much around it. Everyone wants to see the ring, they ask how you met, they ask about the proposal, they put on their best clothes and travel hundreds of miles to see you, they offer their time and their energy, they offer advice whether you want it or not, they let you talk as much as you want to about what you want the wedding to be like, they make speeches about how wonderful you are, they give you stuff... I had a moderately low key wedding, I didnât have a bridal shower or a lot of the traditional stuff, and I didnât ask people for much. And even so, my loved ones poured out their love for me and gave me their time and labor and attention and love.
People donât do that when someone makes a friend.
(And itâs...of course making a friend isnât the same as getting married, but thatâs the point, right? Adults donât get asked if theyâre making any new friends, and they do get asked all the time if theyâve met âsomeone specialâ, meaning someone they might get married to someday. Romantic relationships are prioritized and socially supported at every stage of the process, from looking for a partner or talking about what youâd want in a partner, to new romance, to dealing with tensions and conflicts, to various stages of commitment, to breaking up/divorce. Friendships in adults are not supported in that way. Talking as though they are, or as though âplatonicâ and âlittle or no social recognitionâ have to go together, is cruel and untruthful.)

you a bitch
Itâs called copula deletion, or zero copula. Many languages and dialects, including Ancient Greek and Russian, delete the copula (the verb to be) when the context is obvious.
So an utterance like âyou a bitchâ in AAVE is not an example of a misused you, but an example of a sentence that deletes the copular verb (are), which is a perfectly valid thing to do in that dialect, just as deleting an /r/ after a vowel is a perfectly valid thing to do in an upper-class British dialect.
Whatâs more, itâs been shown that copula deletion occurs in AAVE exactly in those contexts where copula contraction occurs in so-called âStandard American English.â That is, the basic sentence âYou are greatâ can become âYouâre greatâ in SAE and âYou greatâ in AAVE, but âI know who you areâ cannot become âI know who youâreâ in SAE, and according to reports, neither can you get âI know who youâ in AAVE.
In other words, AAVE is a set of grammatical rules just as complex and systematic as SAE, and the widespread belief that it is not is nothing more than yet another manifestation of deeply internalized racism.
This is the most intellectual drag Iâve ever read.
As a speech therapist/educator, Iâm always trying to find simple techniques/explanations to help little kids process and understand their emotions and then teach them healthy ways to express themselves when theyâre angry, frustrated, etc. I notice that telling them I deal with the same difficulties, like wanting to yell when Iâm angry, goes a long way. Then they know what they feel isnât weird BUT there are ways to handle their emotions that donât hurt themselves or others.
This is the kind of parent that I really wanna be someday.

Okay so hot take, what if I made a store that celebrated pride year round, sold hijab, niqabs, flags, skull caps, head scarves, and a lot of other religious clothes. What if it also had an allowance that allowed people to work instead of pay so they could buy food or anything from that store without having to pay money. Also what if we had price tags and labels in all of the languages not just English
