“He was always doing impressions of other people and whenever anyone used to stare at him he’d just stand there and grin right back. Once he took me to see the pianist Joe Henderson at the Empire Theatre, in Liverpool. The act was called ‘Sing Along with Joe’, but the only person who sang loudly was Paul, and he really did sing away at the top of his voice. He was never serious. Always joking. I remember one time when we had a row. It ended with a decision not to go out with each other any more. But the next night he came round with a gaudily wrapped present. Of course, we were friends again immediately. That is, until I opened the parcel and saw a pound of cheese for next week’s sandwiches. But he was so likeable that I couldn’t help forgiving him.”

When The Beatles had a few beers and we'd dropped some pills it was all fun. Pretty often we were all filled up with the stuff, partly because Preludin was so easy to come by. As a matter of fact it was sold on prescription in the pharmacy as a slimming pill. Consequently the pep-pill situation got a little out of hand, and one of the results was that we spent many hours talking uncontrollably. This - combined with the fact that all of us had just learnt to let go with each other - made us involve ourselves in hour-long discussions about our innermost needs, wishes... you name it, we talked about it. We really let it all out. I remember one specific morning that was very much one of those times. John and I had been rapping on and on. We went into the coffee shop by the Top Ten, and there was little Paul sitting all alone at a table, his jaw just rolling with prellies as well. He screamed out, 'Talk to me, someone please talk to me!' So of course we continued our talk as a threesome!

"I found this out from my mother who was a 'go for' for a music director in the 60's. She worked behind the scenes for the 'Help!' music video. She has seen John and Paul backstage and always refers to their behaviour around each other as cute, and claims after spending a few minutes with them it was obvious they were deeply in love.
