If I had a nickel for every time a rebellious, scammer character with a sly, sarcastic personality becomes a cop, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice, right?
This is really random but does anyone remember which episode in Apothecary Diaries that one scene of Maomao getting sent to fetch medicine from a clinic and geeking out over all the medicinal herbs is in? I need it for something.
SEASON 3 IN OCTOBER 2026? A MOVIE WITH ORIGINAL STORY WRITTEN BY NATSU HYUUGA HERSELF IN DECEMBER 2026?? LET'S GOOOOO, KNH FANS!!
NOO CUZ. GIYUU'S BEEN PROTECTING TANJIRO SINCE DAY 1!!!
From the very beginning, from the first chapter Giyuu was the first person who met Tanjiro after his family's massacre and protected him. Taught him to protect himself. Gave Nezuko a chance. Guided him to Urokodaki. Defended him when all the other Hashiras were against him. Fought Akaza with him, putting himself between them to protect him. Stayed with him.
And then.
Giyuu thought Tanjiro died. That boy he so furiously protected died. He thought he failed to protect someone again. He held his hands and cried.
How devastating is that.

Ding Yuxi as Zhang Zheng & Anaran in Love in Pavilion, episode 23
Anime-onlys are missing out on a horrifically underrated girlboss character, Maamei (aka Basen's older sister). There are a lot of amazing female characters in apothecary diaries but Maamei is my personal favorite. Literally her first appearance I was already down bad. She appeared like a mirage, her head held up high with confidence and took charge like, "I got this boys, leave it to me" and swooped over all our problems like a fairy godmother with the right mix of authoritative masculinity and nurturing motherhood. And by "our" I mean mostly Jinshi.
She doesn't care about Jinshi's higher status. To her, he's just another one of her little brothers who needs a bit of a push to get where he wants to go (my headcanon but it's 100% true okay). She's like, "Use your charms! Your good looks! Your power! Go apeshit! Go crazy! I believe in you!" and Jinshi's like "If Maamei was a man I would've made her my right hand" cuz she's THAT capable. She reduced his workload by half when he was drowning in it by assigning her other brother Baryou (who's also just as capable in his own awkward way) as Jinshi's employee. Her martial arts skill are on par if not better than any man as expected from the Ma clan. And she's a MOTHER.
I love her so much. Like, no joke. She's my role model.
Fanfic idea where along the way from the Western Capital to Li (after LN 12), Jinshi and Maomao disembark the ship to hang out at the beach except Jinshi is feeling especially emo and weary and screams into the void and Maomao just watches with wonder in her eyes realizing how much he's masked all this time and how he decided to let it all go in front of HER.
This is my absolute favorite Jinmao chibi illustration. The chaos. The deadpan expression on their faces. Maomao committing an act of violence to Jinshi and he's just like. "Heck yea do it". I can imagine the silence over the sound of the tires rolling. The wind blowing through his hair. The follow up illustration Natsu Hyuga drew of him falling off a cliff cuz. why not. Pure art.
Honestly I donât get how some people (especially redditors) in the KNH fandom are always like oh the epilogue of LN 5 is such a bad translation go read the fan translation because the scene is so much better portrayed.
To me, someone who can and will argue the smallest details for essays for fun, it honestly wasnât that different. It kind of feels like people are talking it up too much. Like both translations felt the same, imo. The differences are almost negligible.
I almost wonder if this is a thing because many of these fans see the fan translation as better âmorallyâ? Often itâs oh no Jinshi doesnât seem as bad or creepy or rough in the Better Translation.
Maybe itâs because Iâm in the SVSSS fandom (freaks galore hehe), but I just donât get it. It was a freaky scene either way, and Iâm here for a good time, not morals.

*BIG EVENT happens in the novel that affects the entire nation, involves conspiracies and death*
Jinshi, at the end of the novel: Fuck this ginormous stack of paperwork.
My favourite Jinmao things are Maomao staring at Jinshi with big, curious, loving eyes when he's not paying attention and Jinshi being the #1 expert on how to tame a Maomao when she get high on poison-related curiosity.
I roped my husband into watching apothecary diaries s2 with me and it got to the point where he goes: "Are you watching Maomao? Don't watch Maomao without me." He loves the plots twists, mysteries and Maomao. Unfortunately now he thinks I'm a masochist when I excitedly described the horrors of the former Emperor's time, Maomao's background, future arc in the light novels, etc.
On the surface, I donât think the viewer expects Jinshi toâwithout any pushback, follow-up questions, or even much of a reactionâpromptly drop the subject when he finds out why Maomao gave away his hair stick.
Of course his initial reaction is shocked (or not so shocked) anger that she would pawn off his gift, but the very second she admits sheâd given it to Loulanâto Shisuiâhe backs down immediately. He doesnât linger on the topic, and in fact redirects the conversation before she can feel pressed to say more.
If anything, I think he switches tactics almost too quickly to be casual. Because I think he inferred, by this admission alone, how much Loulan actually meant to Maomao.
Heâd only ever asked her how she felt about Loulan once before, and sheâd answered honestly, albeit through the haze of shock.
This answer, by itself, may not give Jinshi much to go on, but emotional intelligence is one of his greatest strengths. After Maomao admits she gave Loulan his hair stickâthe token of his affection that he outright asked her to wear for others to seeâI think Jinshi accurately read between the lines.
We know how much he cares for her, but I think this is the first time heâs ever seen her mourn someone. And instead of forcing her to elaborate, to possibly expose her grief before sheâs ready, he changes the subject to spare her the pain that the topic clearly evokes in her.
Maomao and Uncle Iroh would respect eachother So Much
Iroh: is this the plant that makes the super poisonous tea or the delicious tea?
Iroh: *sees Maomao drinking tea from said plant with a pleased face* oh, it's the delicious tea! I see!
Maomao: No. It's poison.
Iroh: then why are you drinking it?
Maomao: tastes good.
Iroh: fair enough. Can I drink it?
Maomao: As long as you're ok with the burning sensation, dizziness, difficulty breathing and having to drink this other drug that'll make you vomit your insides out, go ahead.
Iroh: worth it for a good tea I guess
I can see this happening.

When Shisui "poisoned" the children, she was betting her money on 3 people. 1) Suirei, that she developed the resurrection medicine well enough so it'd work. 2) Maomao, that she's skilled and empathetic enough to understand her plans and treat the children after they wake up. 3) Jinshi, that he's kind enough to listen to her requests and spare the children from capital punishment.
A funny difference between Maomao and Jinshi is how they show favorability towards others. Jinshi makes it obvious. He'd almost literally point at someone and go "I like you. I'm keeping you." Like Lihaku after the whole jealousy shenanigans was cleared and Maamei who we meet in LN 7 (she deserves a seperate post). Whereas Maomao, her actions betray her thoughts. She can go, "This annoying, weird brat" but would sacrifice her life for them in a blink of an eye. Or pretends she couldn't care less when she actually speaks highly of them.
Which is probably related to the whole "anxious attachment" and "avoidance attachment" they've got thanks to childhood trauma but that's not a topic I wanna dive into.
