Killing Eve commission for @ziegler-mercys , with Eve and Villanelle in their iconic⢠outfits this season <33
Chase Infiniti as Willa Ferguson ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER (2025) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson
i used to be so much angrier about hotd in the sense that it was such a waste of potential, but now all i feel is just bereft. this show could have been fine, not even good, just fine. but season 2 took the barest crumbs of potential to the silliest most boring most self contradictory possible direction for every single character. it goes far beyond the lack of a final battle. there is absolutely no redemption for this show, no sense to be made out of the mess, no theories to discuss, no interesting character work to debate, no new outfits or haircuts or worldbuilding. and all they can do to promote the show is repeat tired ass lines about a "morally gray" war that they've been parroting since season 1, because every time an actor speaks on their own character they contradict something in the show or something their showrunner or co-star has previously said

"go to hell." basic. weaksauce shit. "i hope that character you really like gets an uber-popular yaoi ship and you have to watch in real time as they get sanded down into a toothless, barely-recognizable version of themself that's become little more than a vessel for bland tropes and OOC fluff, and that's just the permanent fandom consensus view of that character now." now THAT'S a threat. that cuts right to the bone. that's real. that's happening to me as we speak.
we need to invent a way to explain how deep running and pervasive and subliminal racism and antiblackness is without immediately sounding like an insane conspiracy theorist
female characters are always lighter than male characters. strong characters are almost always dark. aggressive characters are almost always dark. peaceful and intelligent characters are almost always light. even amongst darker characters the lightest one is usually either the leader or the girls. dark is evil and light is good.
if you try to explain this to a white person they look at you like youre insane
Butches are always sexually aggressive and feral, and in paranormal fantasy they are angry, brutish, impoverished or straight up have animal characteristics. They are usually women of color, with dark hair and dark skin, and can only ever be werewolves or half human hybrids. Femmes are delicate, petite, submissive, more emotionally intelligent and likely to be vampires, faeries, princesses or more such attractive archetypes. they will always be light skinned, if not white, and with preferably blonde or lighter hair and features.
Even with the rise of gl webtoons and visual media, the flirty, sexually dominant one is always dark haired. the innocent wide eyed one is always light haired, and/or fairer. We have ships in media where according to fans the white person by virtue of their light skin becomes more feminine, dandyish and "maternal" (Lestat, Madeline) while the person of color is the "dad" or the butch (Claudia, Louis).
Hell, this isn't even exclusive to racial stereotyping in queer ships, interracial ships with a woman of color and a white man literally have been repackaged into girlboss x malewife trope, an easy excuse to portray the woman as sexually aggressive, brazen and hotheaded, and her sweet white husband as a golden retriever (Luka and Hyuna from Alien Stage come to mind). It is a wild combination of gender essentialism and racism.
itās a great time to be a hater, many things are bad and lots of stuff sucks. itās also a terrible time to be a hater, because many people will insist that you have to like the bad thing because a company spent millions of dollars making it and itās just not very nice to say itās bad
hating is ultimately a philosophy of optimism. the knowledge that things could be better, and the desire to see them improve, differentiates it from the pessimism of idle consumption.
there r some characters that u really love that u do not want to see any opinion or discussion about online ever. u agree with like 2 ppl on earth total about. maybe 3. their haters lovers glazers fuckers shitters pissers whatever pissing u off to equal degrees. just a beautiful kind of torture chamber to find urself in

an onscreen interpretation of alicent that, to me, would have slapped?
an alicent willing to withdraw support from sons whom she has deemed to be liabilities not only to what she believes to be the good of the realm but also to her hold on the kingās mother titleāa position of relative security for a highborn westerosi woman + in her pov her reward after decades of marital and misogynistic violence even if she couldnāt necessarily articulate it as such + what, for most of her adult life as a westerosi queen and a highborn lady of her upbringing and house history and specific circumstance and compounded sensibilities, she makes out as her means to freedom. alicent the kingās mother who burns through her sons as she moves from aemond to aegon to daeron to aegon again (and much later to jaehaera) in her search for what she defines as a rightful and peace-bringing king in a son of her body and in her quest to hold on to the means of her āfreedomā as the war worsens.
all intact: her ambivalence on and growing rejection of motherhood, intrafamily conflict as her sons and their respective allies react to and counteract her actions in the midst of an internecine war with rhaenyraās branch, her political savvy and curated clout from her stint as regent for her ailing husband on top of her years and years of being queen navigating the kingās landing court, her intelligence, the fucking stakes and tension in her factionās conflict with rhaenyraās, her allowing herself to acknowledge the futility of it all somewhere in the back half of her arc.
