Basically, Mr grifter announced that he might be getting into the collecting side of yugioh, which would lead to the scalping hell that now plagues the Pokémon and One Piece TCGs

As a joke, MBTYugioh gave them pointers on what to “invest in”, recommending some of the WORST shit products that this game released in the years

He then followed up with a tongue-in-cheek, clearly trolling video recommending shit like Legendary Duelists sets, Duelist of Deep and Synchro Storm, and the Platinum cards, and exclusive COINS before ending the video with “Don’t invest in yugioh. You will lose money due to this game’s reprint policies”

Like, it was very obvious for anyone with half-a-brain cell and is familiar with Yugioh that the video is a joke

BUT a bunch of scalping bots took the video at face value and bought out these doodoo, worthless products immediately after his fuckass video came out

Maybe this is just me being aromantic, but that seems not only blatantly counterfactual to how people actually act, but also unhealthy? At best you're going to interpret any experience with a partner who turns out to not be your "True Love" as a waste; at worst you're going to stick with someone you think is/want to be your One True Love no matter how bad they are for you.

It's untrue and unhelpful and ubiquitous, embedded in larger issues about how our society understands love. It's the sort of thing that's annoying wherever it comes up, but it's not worth calling out every time it happens.

Which is why I'm so surprised that an anime called The 100 Girlfriends Who Really [...] Really Love You has a nuanced take on it.

Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised. The premise of this whole series is that Rentaro has 100 soulmates (thanks to an absurd clerical error by a love god), so it's going to be less monogamous than most anime.

But that polyamory is an exception to the rule penned by a literal god. It's allowed to break the rules. This is just "Hahari loved one guy, now she loves another". And the second love is a Love-God-Certified Soulmate, which Rentaro knows for certain, because that's how soulmates work in this world.

But Rentaro still reassures Hahari that her first love was just as valid, even if he wasn't her soulmate. What matters is that she loved him, and that love doesn't have to diminish the love she feels for anyone else. Nor vise versa.
