To me in this context, this little origami unicorn is a symbol of not knowing what the truth is when they reunite for the first time in book 2, and wondering what that truth is... but... not... either of them being a replicant ahahah, definitely not hahah - it's about Aerin not knowing if Raine could ever take him back after what he did, Raine not knowing if anything Aerin felt for her was real, if anything wasn't a lie, but leaving this unicorn here as a sign of hope and a reminder, and both of them having very, very real feelings while not knowing for sure if the other does, too.
