Oct.9 is my late friend Eden's birthday and I wanted to once again draw something from our chat history for her. This time it's Bak having a Chow named Bok Choy, since she loved the idea of the Chang family having Chow Chows as their family dogs for generations.
Posting it a little early since it's already the 9th in Australia.

just an update for anyone who donated to my sweet son’s cleft palate surgery fund back in december: after two surgical revisions, he’s doing great! his asthma is now under better control, and i can’t hear him breathing from across the room anymore. massive thank you to anyone who donated or who reblogged the donation post!
thanks for checking in! he’s been having a pretty rough time recovering (which is partially why i’ve been absent).
the initial surgery went great, no complications. about a week after, though, his entire lip split open over the course of 8 hours. we took him back to the hospital, and the surgeon was able to do a minor repair since it was just the lip & not the palate (those sutures stayed put). two days later, it started happening again. and despite being on pain meds, it was obviously painful enough that he stopped eating. we took him back to the hospital, and he was admitted for a couple days before he could see his surgeon. his lip was repaired for a third time (using a different technique) last wednesday, and on saturday AM it started to split in the same location. so far it’s not as bad as it was the previous 2 times, but that’s where we are.
his doctor said that ellis unfortunately just does not have very much tissue to play with due to the nature of the cleft, so we’ll have to let everything fully heal and then try surgery again in a matter of months (likely using skin grafts). the initial $3200 we paid became $8900 over the past weeks, so i’m not sure when we’ll be able to do the next surgery.
i’d love to post photo updates, but everything looks pretty graphic rn, so i’ll do that once he’s healed!
last year, i joined @kiscon and it was the best fandom decision i'd made in a long time. i'd been in a number of fan groups but nothing like this one. i felt scene. i felt heard. i felt like i'd finally found my people.
then the group's leader @larissabernstein sent me an email on the morning of oct 9th letting me know that i'd been kicked out for "supporting terrorism".
what then followed was a series of increasingly hostile messages between us:
basically, she exposed herself to be a victim of zionist propaganda. i celebrated palestinian freedom fighters tearing down checkpoints, she saw me celebrating the death of her people. i acknowledged that israel's brutal actions against palestinians led to their freedom fighters taking drastic measures, she saw me hating jewish people.
the only thing i regret about my part in our conversation is that i didn't know enough to take the stance i should've when i had the chance.
instead i let her make me feel bad for hurting her personally which led to me trying to fix it with her before i really even understood what was going on or that many of hamas' alleged crimes were completely made up (plot twist: by israeli zionists!).
however, i learned quickly enough through my own research and ended up sending this final message a few days later:
the whole thing left me with a sour taste in my mouth. i'd felt so comfortable and so accepted by @kiscon and its members only to be tossed out like yesterday's trash when it was most convenient.
in retrospect, tho, i can at least respect that @larissabernstein outright told me how she felt about me and the whole situation. i had to learn through a third party that apparently my removal was a group decision and not just a sudden one made by her alone.
this explains why @lollians just straight up stopped responding to my messages. even tho they'd always seemed the friendliest towards me, to the point of sending me a uhura button.
but it doesn't explain why @1lostone told me this:
when i reached out them on the day i was kicked out. instead they gave me a vague response where they pretended to be shocked and then completely ghosted me.
meanwhile, @kiscon shared these posts on their twitter and then tumblr that same day:
it's been crickets from most of the other @kiscon members (other than @page-of-wands11 who at least had kind words for me when i reached out afterwards).
but i'm fortunate enough to have people like @veggiesforpresident and @mydaroga on my side. in fact, i'm pretty damn lucky.
because these past 2 months have been hard. even moreso because @kiscon was a source of comfort i had for a year. then i lost it in a day with nothing to replace it.
no more tight-knit group of k/s shippers with inside jokes. no more fellow trekkies meeting up via zoom on saturdays to rewatch tos episodes, play games, or just share thoughts -- on trek or anything else.
i miss it. then saturday rolls around and i miss it even more. but if the price of that comraderie was my silence in the face of palestinian suffering, i was never going to pay it.
and anyway, losing @kiscon has opened me up to finding a trek/spirk group that doesn't ask me to compromise my morals for a sense of belonging.
i can't wait to find them! bonus points if they're black trekkies + trekkies of color + queer trekkies!!
Unbelievably annoyed with the protesting advice I see from the most out of touch lefties on here. "You always need to show up in all black and you ALWAYS have to leave your phone at home." 1 there are different kind of protests and you need to know what it will look like/what groups are organizing it and 2 you are going to get people fucking killed
If it is your first time going to a protest, and especially if you only found it through compiled lists you protests on here, then you NEED NEED NEED to look up the groups that are organizing the protest, look at what they've done in the past, and what they have said about this protest. Are they a college groups calling for a sidewalk demonstration ? Are a left wing party calling to take over the streets ? Is this an unorganized spontaneous protest not organized by any one group ?
If you are showing up to a protest organized by a college group in all black with no phone ready to raise hell, then not only will you be putting the organizers at risk with their college and the police, but you risk being targeted walking to or from the protest by fascists or the cops. Your black clothes will make you stand out in the protest and you absolutely will be targeted by the cops. And if you didn't bring your phone then guess what, you have no way to call for help if you are targeted.
Likewise, if you show up to a spontaneous protest or one organized by more radical groups in brightly colored clothes with your phone out ready to record, you are also putting yourself at risk of being targeted by the cops and you are putting other people at risk of arrest by recording them.
These posts that go around every time there's a wave of protests telling people who have never protested that they need to show up ready for a black bloc is wildly fucking irresponsible. If you are experienced and know what to expect from your local organizers, then absolutely show up ready to raise hell. But if you show up like that to a fucking civillian sidewalk demonstration because you couldn't be bothered to see who was organizing it, the you're not a revolutionary, you're a cosplayer. People will be recording to post on social media because that was the point of that particular demonstration, and you are going to stick out like a sore thumb.
The first and foremost best advice I can give you if you've never been to a protest before is to GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SCENE ! What groups are in your area, which ones are organizing this specific protest ? Do they have an online/social media presence ? Have they made any statements about what they want from the protest ? It takes literally 10 minutes of research in most cases.
Either way, the things you should always do at every protest no matter what is mask up, hide identifying tattoos, wear non descriptive clothes, and bring a bag with snacks and water if it's going to be a long one. Don't record people but if youre going to a normal demonstration but be prepared for other people to be recording with the intention of it being posted. If you're going to raise hell and need to leave your phone at home, then you NEED to have a plan for avoiding being tracked by other means like car GPS, street cameras, and regular police surveillance. Otherwise you're just putting yourself at risk.
Come with a group if you can, be extra extra vigilant if you're going alone, and always have a plan for if you're targeted by fascists, for if you're arrested, or if someone you know is arrested. And most importantly, don't listen internet anarchist grifters who give out of touch blanket advice to look cool online.

my sweet kitty, ellis, is having surgery next month (12/14).
he was born with a cleft lip, and while he’s managed to get by okay enough, in the past few months he’s had a couple of sinus infections and developed severe asthma. he’s a year old, and will likely need to be on an inhaler twice a day for the rest of his life. these have both happened as a result of the large, open nostril that the cleft lip has caused.
the goal of this surgery is not to “fix” his appearance, it’s purely to make sure that he continues to be a healthy, happy kitty as he ages.
the good news is that since we live in boston, we’re lucky enough to be seeing the top veterinary reconstructive surgeon in the country. the bad news is that the surgery is projected to be very expensive (estimate below).
anything helps, so if you feel like donating, my venmo is lucifer_mp3, cashapp is $lucifermp3, and feel free to message for paypal. shares definitely help too, so please feel free to reblog as well/instead!
this little man is having surgery in a little over 2 weeks!
so far, we’ve got $1932 saved towards the procedure, which is a little over 40% of the high end of the estimate! thank you to everyone who’s shared and/or donated, and please feel free to continue sharing or kick a couple bucks our way.
guinea pig instagram accounts are so funny cause the captions will be like "uh oh! pumpkiwumpkin is being extra sassy today!" and the picture is literally just

Only 32% of Americans agree that “the U.S. should support Israel,” down from 41% last month. They are now fewer than those saying “the U.S. should be a neutral mediator,” which rose from 27% to 39%.
Americans oppose sending weapons to Israel, 43%-31%.
68% agree that “Israel should call a ceasefire and try to negotiate,” including 3/4ths of Democrats and half of Republicans.
