i also perhaps live in almost a bubble where generally it is so body neutral that nobody comments and there’s a great emphasis on enjoying our fleeting time alive over aesthetic perfection like you can say “i’ve been eating way too many oreos” and you’ll be met with “oreos are so good, have fun with them until you’re over them” or something to that effect instead of concern. like strong emphasis on just riding the waves of life as they come and taking no offence or concern when they come. i’m hard-pressed to come up with anyone in the last five years who said something genuinely egregious, rude, bizarre about my body or weight outside of people who are truly troubled in their relationship with themselves, with food, with body image, and they’re almost always strangers. even my mom has become aggressively and solidly body neutral.

i’ve lost substantial weight by intention and the most striking thing somebody said was “you know, i knew something changed but i didn’t realize it was weight because your confidence has been so consistent at every size” like they were so unfocused on my body because what matters is the content of my character that i lost a 5 year old child worth of weight and they were like i guess her bangs really changed her face??
