7 years, a devil in his ear, trying to sway him to a path of darkness, surely. And yet he chose the path of heroism. And you- and you- and you're calling him a fraud? Wyll Ravengard is NOT a fraud. Lorroakan? Fraud. Wyll Ravengard is not a fraud! Not only - not only does he save Baldur's Gate 7 years ago - when he was a teenager, ok? But he comes back with a band of ragtag heroes and helps protect the city from a cultist? The Absolute cultists?

Hawke: Are the mages here using blood magic?

Samson: It always comes down to that, don't it? They claim innocence, demand equality, but back them into a corner and they got options we don't.

Samson: Haven't found a Mage yet who won't take it.

Samson: I'd hope with Meredith gone, I'd could pick up the shield again. But maybe she was right - give them a hint of freedom, mages go bad.

Lol I wouldn't even be so pressed about this if people who liked Samson didn't balantly ignore the anti mage sentiments he expresses in Act 2 of Dragons Age 2 to hate on Cullen. I think ya'll would absolutely hate Samson if he was the Commander of the Inquistion. Like, i think the whole thing with Merrodox in Inquistion is Samson not wanting to feel lonely and wanting a tranquil to tend to his red lyrium armor. Like Meredith had a tranquil assistant in Dragon Age 2 who did her paperwork for her.

I don't like the hypocritical nature of this fandom, especially when comparing the two. I know Cullen does wrong things in Dragon Age 2, I do not profess his innocence unironically. The whole thing with Kieran is very hypocritical of him given his own state during Broken Circle - among him considering Ser Alrik's tranquil solution unlike Meredith who denies it. Yes he was made Knight Captain unlike Samson but Meredith took advantage of an twenty years old boys trauma over the events of Origins to mold him into a yes man of hers. She didn't like Cullen otherwise she wouldn't had made him her second in command, she did so to groom him into being her successor. Mind you - Cullen actually shows a bit of sympathy if Fenryiel is bought to the Circle instead of joining the Dalish. *I heard that elf blooded lad you bought in isn't doing so well, though. Poor lad's near on his death bed.*

Cullen unlike Rayleigh Sansom, will defend mages who surrender during the Templar Route - which is a complete one eighty from the stance he took in Dragon Age Origins. Rayleigh only wants for lyrium which is he sent Fenryiel and Thrask's daughter off to that captain friend of his because they couldn't pay for his services. He is motivated by gold, to help him gain the funds to obtain lyrium. He helps apostates in the first act not out of kindness, because they benefit him - otherwise Anders, the apostate extraordinaire, wouldn't say *I pity any mage who seeks your aid', would he? Not all Circle mages are poor, some are the children of minor nobles, is Emile de Launcet and Gascard DuPuis, or own shops of their own. Some can pay for his services [and i honestly think people underestimate what desperation can accomplish] so why not help them out?
