girls like girls (2026) - one of my favorite movies of the year so far. set in 2016, shot in a nostalgic, dreamy way with a killer soundtrack 💕

i was talking about nostalgic movies with a friend and you ruined my life (1987) came up. i wanted to watch it and couldn’t find it anywhere - streaming or to buy even! finally i found a video of it on youtube that someone had uploaded from a vhs taped in 1987, complete with vintage ads! still a great movie after all these years!

I’ve never seen stay tuned (1992) before and wasn’t expecting the tone of this movie - not that i’m complaining! I love some 90s dark humor!

oh dear! supergirl (2026)! i hated this movie! i wanted to like it because I want there to be more female led superhero movies, but there were just so many missed opportunities in this movie. it missed the mark on just about everything for me 😖

I recently found out that laika is not a profitable company, but still keeps making interesting animated movies anyway. it is subsidized by laika ceo’s dad - phil knight, the founder of nike- so can continue on without risk of closure in spite of its losses. i’ve been seeking out interesting animated movies lately and thoroughly enjoyed paranorman (2012)

i’d heard good things about the sheep detectives (2026) so we watched it. it was fine, about what I would have expected prior to the hype 🤷‍♀️

and finally a couple of reality shows in their 5th seasons that we’ve been following since their beginning - welcome to wrexham and the floor. we don’t often watch reality shows, but we’ll make an exception once in a while

and that’s it for this week. i’ve been trying to watch long form content over short form and got quite a bit of it in this week!

the whole family really enjoyed spider-noir. i mean, Nicholas cage! what more to say! as you’d expect he has numerous unhinged scenes and played the spider as only nic cage can. I really enjoyed it in black and white, but the color option was very stylized and saturated, so it was impossible to choose between them. I also really enjoyed the character of cat hardy. she has some very cool dresses!

don’t tell mom the babysitters dead is one of my favorite movies of all time! when I was younger we had a vhs of the movie taped off the tv and I would watch it over and over on summer vacation! the fashion is outrageous, the characters are wonderful and it still holds up after all this time 💕

we’ve been still rewatching red dwarf on dvd from the library. season 4 wasn’t my favorite of the seasons we’ve watched so far, but it has a couple of good episodes and lots of great jokes! we’re going to take a break from it for a while now - don’t want to get burnt out on it!

and last, but not least is the undead fox of deadwood forest. this book follows the journey of Clare - an undead fox who is an usher in the forest and helps lost souls get to the realm that they should spend their eternity in the afterlife : peace, progress, pleasure or pain. this is a children’s chapter book, so in some ways it’s an easier read, but it also covers some more spooky and macabre subjects. I loved it and want to read more by this author. I found this book from a post by @vicinthemeadow

we recently watched moonrise kingdom and now it was time for the grand Budapest hotel. another of my favorite Wes Anderson movies 💕

first of my repeat watches this week - masters of the universe (2026). i went to see this last week and the opportunity presented itself to go rewatch it this week and i figured why not! not a mind blowing movie, but entertaining enough to rewatch. i even liked it a smidge more on a rewatch 💕

after watching masters of the universe (2026) at the movie theater, we came home and watched masters of the universe (1987). this definitely has different vibes and a lower budget. they’re both fun in their own ways. evil-Lyn steals the show in both movies! what a diva!

next up is little Amelie or the character of the rain. such a beautiful movie. the animation is interesting and colorful. the movie starts off a little weird, but it’s definitely worth it to stick with it. i had to rewatch it before i returned it to the library. it’s the sweet story of a Belgian family living in japan

and finally we finished up Miss Kobayashi’s dragon maid season 2. this is a fun, silly anime about a women who inadvertently invites a bunch of dragons to live with her - but they do take the shape of humans, however they don’t fully know how the human world works

masters of the universe (2026) - I’ll be honest, I wasn’t super excited about this movie from the trailers, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Alison bries evil-lyn was excellent. if you’d have given me a million tries I wouldn’t have guessed that Jared Leto played skeletor! 😆

next up is Minekos night market - I loooooooooved this game! mineko and her dad move to an island village and Mineko begins exploring a local legend - a giant cat named Nikko. you also get to craft things to sell at the weekly night market. I loved the story and the art style is beautiful. highly recommend this game (recommended to me by @hippienerdseawitch )

we also watched a few 80s/90s classic movies :

my cousin vinny - courtroom comedy drama starring Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei. Vinny tries his best to help get his cousin out of a legal jam, but it’s quite a struggle! If you haven’t seen this one, you gotta! It’s great!

the princess bride - what do I need to say about this one? One of my favorite movies of all time - it has everything : pirates, adventure, sword fighting, death, giants… and of course, true love!

I’m not sure if I’ve seen runaway bride before, but it’s a pretty standard 90s rom com starring Richard gere and Julia Robert

we recently went to silver springs state park, which is one of the filming locations for the creature from the black lagoon so we had to grab this from the library on the way home. A great classic monster movie - one of the scariest things about it is the complete disregard for the environment 😱

Scott pilgrim vol 2 graphic novel - Scott pilgrim vs the world. Vol 1 was very close to the movie (which I love), this volume deviates a little and we get a little more lore from the characters

And last, but not least was a rewatch of moonrise kingdom. I watched this recently, but my little wanted to watch it and I was happy to oblige in rewatching it. I love the style of this movie. One of my favorite movies from Wes Anderson

my favorite movie of this week was remarkably bright creatures. such a delightful movie that deals with loss, change, friendships, family tension and more in a delightful way. it was just released earlier this year on Netflix. highly recommend for a chill watch

we went to see mandolorian and grogu at the movie theater. this movie kind of felt like 2 episodes of the show. not a whole lot of character growth for our main 2 adventurers, but there is a whooooole lot of super cute grogu and anzellan moments. definitely worth a watch. I’m glad we went to see it on the big screen

my little has been getting more into movies lately and I am thrilled! she wanted to watch the bill and Ted series and I was happy to oblige! I haven’t seen them in years. their excellent adventure is a standard fun 80s movie adventure through time in their trademark phone booth - the bogus journey however is more unhinged than I remember 😆😆😆

I love boosters is a colorful, fun movie, but it definitely gets real weird! 😆 I tried explaining some of the plot and realized I sounded insane! it will definitely surprise you with it’s unpredictable story! ❤️💛💙💚💜

last and maybe least, is house of the dragon season 2. we’ve been rewatching this in preparation for the new season coming out. it’s been a lot and a harder watch than I remember it being at time. where will it go from here? I guess we’ll find out soon…!

little Amelia or the character of the rain - I picked this one up on a whim at the library because I’ve been seeking out cool animation lately. I’m so glad i did because this was such a beautiful, delightful movie. At only an hour and 17mins is a quick watch too - I’m planning on rewatching it before I return it ✨

Strawberry mansion is a strange, ethereal movie about a dream audition who has to audit an older ladies dream vhs. Some very surreal vignettes throughout, very dreamy!

Wristcutters is an interesting idea that ended up being cuter than I thought considering the subject matter 💕

We watched Lupin III - the castle of cagliostro, which is Miyazaki’s directorial debut. While it isn’t a studio Ghibli movie, you can definitely see some on the Ghibli style, mostly in the backgrounds

We’re also continuing our rewatch of Red Dwarf - getting dvds from the library. In season 2 the show is starting to find its footing now. This season ends with an absolute banger of an episode - where Lister and Rimmer meet female versions of themselves from a parallel universe. Cat’s counterpart is not what he is expecting! These seasons are so short, so they’ve been quick to get through - just six 30min episodes.

moonrise kingdom, such a great movie! I love this movie more everytime. I think grand budapest hotel is my favorite wes anderson movie, but it’s a very close call!

i also started rewatching summer camp island - my favorite animated show ever! the adventures of oscar and hedgehog on a magical island, overseen by sassy witch camp counselor, suzy. monsters are cool, the moon is our friend 🌙 ✨

another super cute anime that we have been watching is miss toboyashi’s dragon maid. Miss toboyashi accidentally invites a dragon to come live with her and she shows up in human form to be her adoring maid. delightful!

i haven’t watched red dwarf in years and i don’t know if i’ve ever seen the last series or two, so we’re starting at the beginning. it’s taking a minute to get to full force, we haven’t really seen kryten much yet, but it’s still a lot of fun! it’s free on Pluto, but the ads made it unwatchable, but my library came through with the dvds. libraries rule! 🙌 📚

and finally, we’ve been rewatching house of the dragon before the new season comes out in june. I don’t remember it being quite as hard of a watch as it is last time i watched it, but we’re still soldiering on with it…

medalist - fun, delightful anime about ice skating! I’m excited to get into the second season

michael - they definitely glossed over a number of parts, but overall this was a super engaging, fun movie. the actors playing michael were awesome! they captured him so well!

tank girl - one of my favorite movies ever! I was having a conversation about post apocalyptic movies and this is my absolute favorite post apocalyptic movies. this is what I want after the apocalypse - whimsy, found treasures, bright colors, art etc.

scott pilgrims precious little life vol 1 - we’ve been on such a Scott pilgrim kick in our house lately. this book was great! It was so similar to the movie and a really quick read. loved it! ✨

cold clay - the second full book in the shady hollow mystery series. I’m still really enjoying this series and excited to keep reading the rest of them!

mika and the witches mountain - this is a super cute Kiki’s delivery service style game. you’re a witch who makes deliveries on her broomstick. The controls take a little getting used to, but I got this on a sale from the Nintendo shop and it’s definitely worth a play. delightful! 💕✨

luck - a cute Pixar style movie about an unlucky girl who ends up entering the land of luck and trying to get more luck for her loved one. she has a cute cat side kick and the unicorn, voiced by flula borg, is very silly!

and last (and least!), falling down, a movie starring michael douglas. a man has a mental breakdown and starts a rampage of violence. no real character growth. I ended up watching this because I was talking about it with a family member, but it is not a movie for me and I didn’t enjoy it. you win some, you lose some! 🤷‍♀️
