She's spent this whole season so desperate to save him, using experimental magic and even interfering during combat, and it's absolutely the cherry on top that in the crux moment, with everything at stake, she cannot waver. She was not and is not ready to let him go, even for a greater good, and it's what makes his choice and his death so poignant. She did everything, and still lost him.
