Hi I hope enough people see this and know me that I'm not just shouting into the void but I really wanna share my idea for a musical with yall
I'm working on a musical called MINOS, concept poster graphic above. The story goes over all the myths that take place on Minoan Crete, from Daedalus' exile due to killing his nephew, to Theseus becoming king of Athens when Aegeus kills himself. Intermission is after Icarus (each song where a character dies is named after them).
Only major issue is my lack of songwriting and composition abilities. I do have ideas for many songs and preferences for the cast.
Cast
Daedalus - Baritone, at least 40
Perdix - Actual child, around 10 to 12
Minos - Bass, late 20s/early 30s, must have a strong, authoritative voice (obv, he's the king)
Pasiphae - Soprano, similar age to Minos
Minotaur - He lowk just needs to be big and strong, he's got a bull head so he's mostly gonna be grunting
Icarus - Teen, 14/15, tenor, similar enough to Daedalus to pass as his son
Theseus - Tenor/Baritenor, in his 20s, basic white (optional) boy protagonist
Medea - Mezzo Soprano, very dark hair, late 30s early 40s
Medeus - Another teenager, similar enough to Medea to pass as her son
Aegeus - Late 40s early 50s, doesn't sing, and must be similar enough to Theseus to pass as his dad
Ariadne - Alto, 20s like Theseus, similar enough to Minos and Pasiphae to pass as their daughter.
Song Ideas
Similar to Peter and the Wolf and more recently, EPIC, each character has an instrument/signature musical thing. Daedalus is synth, Minos is high brass, Minotaur is low brass, Pasiphae is high strings, Ariadne is low strings, Medea/Medeus is harp/lyre, and some others I haven't decided yet.
I have some ideas for song titles I really like, I already mentioned the death song naming convention, but here are some others.
Birth a Beast - After Pasiphae "births a beast", Daedalus must create a greater beast to contain it; the Labyrinth.
Illusions and its reprise - First time, it's Daedalus setting up the Labyrinth with tricks to get the Minotaur (and later the children) stuck in the maze, and in the reprisal, it's Theseus navigating the tricks and traps.
Quartering Corpses - Minos plans to feed the Minotaur with the slaves from Athens Crete gets as tribute. Idk if this will be in the final version but i love the name.
The Sea and the Sun - Fly too low, corrode the wax, Fly too high, melt the wax.
My Superlative Son - Medea yaps about how great her son is, with superlative both applying to her son and being a placeholder for every other word she uses to describe him
Heartstrings - Ariadne is so positively smitten, and Theseus realizes this could be useful.
Perdix (Reprise) - In Perdix, the titular bitchular keeps asking Daedalus why they're climbing the hill that leads to a cliff. Here, Aegeus' attendant asks him what Aegeus thinks he's doing, climbing up the highest watchtower on the cliff.
Please please PLEASE ask me anything about this, it's my favorite thing I've made and it's not even made yet. <3
