Accidentally saw Spider-Man: Brand New Day on opening night (didn't realize it was yesterday and we got last-minute tickets), here's some opening thoughts (spoilers ahead)
Peter and Jean's dynamic is so fantastic. As actors, Tom and Sadie have such fantastic chemistry, and as characters their interaction both fighting against each other and then finally Peter and May caring for her is just so sweet
Really fun to just be able to watch a Spider-Man movie in theatres again, our whole theatre reacted as one at some of the really funny lines. Highlight was the group of dudes behind us who had a guy that was clearly not the one who brought them all there and, when Jean Grey's name is revealed loudly asked 'who the hell is she?'
However, definitely felt some plotlines were either glossed over or dropped. Hulk? Dipped after act 2 and is never heard from again. Arachnid hormones? Peter just sort of locks in and that's it. Bill? Nearly gets sharded to death but then we skirt right past him after that. Felt that could've been stronger
But, overall, beautiful movie. This is good cinema, and I'm glad it brought me out to a theatre again. Solid A tier
When I was hesitant about Frank Castle being in Brand New Day, what I failed to account for is that Frank is the perfect person to hear "I'm staying away from my loved ones to protect them" and respond with "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Go talk to them."
