Inspired by my walking past a home built in 1754 in my new neighborhood, which isn't even the oldest building in the city. As someone born and raised in the Western US (where we do have some very old buildings, contrary to popular belief, just not in the middle of most cities), it made me curious!
When was the oldest extant building you can reasonably walk to from your home built?
20th century
19th century
18th century
17th century
16th century
15th century
14th century
13th century
12th century
11th century
10th century or before
(Use your judgement for definitions of "extant," it doesn't have to be used for its original purpose but my intention is a building that could theoretically still be used, not just the remnants of one.)
Violette Morris (18 April 1893 - 26 April 1944) lived openly as a lesbian and was a decorated athlete who won many French national championships. In the 1920s, Morris sued the French Sports Association for Women for their rule against letting women who wear trouses compete.
She also worked for the gestapo⦠so thereās that

This is so funny. Of all the possible posts? This one?
Oh hey it's the 2nd of August. It's international Romani genocide memorial day. 79 years and still the vast majority of countries don't give a fuck about it nor recognize it. Hell on Earth everywhere
It's been 80 years since the Nazis liquidated the Romani family camp in Auschwitz, killing 4,000 people in a single night. Most countries don't recognize it and most European countries continue to treat us like shit
hey I really appreciate you guys reblogging my post! If any of you are interested in actually supporting Romani people against systemic anti-Romani racism, then you should support the Nordic model and the abolition of the sex trade
Most Romani survivors never got any financial compensation for the Romani genocide (nor for the 500 years of chattel slavery Eastern European Roma had to endure in Romania).
Nowadays, 80% of European Sinti and Roma live in poverty. The EU average is 17%. (source)
Eastern European countries like Romania, Hungary or Bulgaria are the hubs of the European sex trafficking system. In those countries, Romani women are segregated in ghettos, Romani girls are segregated in schools with poor funding and of poor quality. (source; source)
Of all prostituted women in Eastern Europe, Romani women make up:
50% of Bulgaria's
a 'high' but unknown number of Slovakia's and Hungary's
50% of Romania's
And that number is increasing. (source; source)
Romani women are disproportionately harmed by the sex trade. Yet no data is available about Romani women and sex trafficking -- because no organization cares enough to look into it! We only know that Romani people are more vulnerable to human trafficking, because of economic inequalities (source). Germany and Romania, in particular, are fully responsible for this, considering neither of those countries properly (or ever) compensated Romani victims of genocide and slavery.
Here is a thread explaining how a cycle of poverty leads to prostitution among the Hungarian Romani community:
The European men who were raping Romani women in concentration camps and during slavery are exactly the same as the European men who are now raping Romani women in German brothels. When you're a Romani girl in Europe you get told you are dirty and poor by the same men who sexualize you.
And the irony is that much of the antiracist Romani movement is comprised of Romani NGOs funded and backed by the EU, the same EU that tolerates the sex trade, that tolerates German brothels, that supports 'sex work'. Most of those Romani NGOs are funded by George Soros' Open Society Fundation, the same George Soros behind the Red Umbrella project, the same George Soros funding the pimping lobby in Europe. So now you have Romani 'feminist' organizations like E-Rromnja, the biggest in Romania, that want to decriminalize prostitution.
This is how misogyny, racism, bad compensation/memory politics, and the neoliberal agenda work together to make sure Romani women keep fueling the European sex trade. Germany, and the rest of Europe, found a new, liberal way to keep oppressing us.
Support Romani women. Support the Nordic model

we have to hold the line on misandry not being real. it's getting scary out there
not even a little bit real. not even a little bit. you can quote me on that. "tumblr user realshy said misandry is 'not even a little bit real" end quote.
its not real at all. Itās not real even if you rename it. Itās not real if you call it something different. Itās not real even if you call it transmisogyny

Reminder to newly out trans women/fems or anyone else on E, donāt let anyone gaslight you about your period symptoms. donāt let anyone with a childās level understanding of how periods work make you feel like youāre stupid or delusional for experiencing period symptoms, especially if you think there might be something wrong.
things like endometriosis can develop in an estrogen-dominated system, because its the hormones that cause the growth of endometrial lesions, not the āpartsā themselves. If youāre experiencing unusually painful symptoms* then you have a right to find a doctor who will take you seriously and not try to gaslight you into thinking that the pain is ānormalā.
*period pain is not supposed to affect your daily life. Itās supposed to feel more like an inconvenience rather than a medical emergency. If you are struggling to go about your life, if you canāt move due to the pain, if youāre bed-ridden for the majority of your period, then that is not normal and you need to find a doctor who is going to take your pain seriously. This obviously goes for anyone who experiences periods because unfortunately itās not common knowledge that experiencing agonising levels of pain is NOT NORMAL!!!
People who have "child's level understanding of periods": women who have periods
@gendiebrainrotreceipts
The fact that you are taking estrogen as a male whose endocrine system 1) doesn't need estrogen in such quantities and 2) doesn't know how to deal with it very well is risky in and of itself. These risks can manifest in all sorts of health symptoms that have nothing to do with either periods or endometriosis, but they STILL need treatment. So if you're experiencing ANY pain that you haven't experienced prior to transitioning, ANY pain AT ALL, you will have to book an appointment with a doctor.
There is a chance that this leads to you being told to stop taking estrogen, but that isn't a reason to not go. You could end up dead otherwise, and no, not because of fucking endometriosis.
Endometriosis doesn't happen in male bodies just because they are taking estrogen. It can happen if they have certain leftover dormant embryological cells from the time they were still developing in their mother's wombs, and THEN these cells get stimulated by estrogen years later. That has been recorded to have happened 16 times in the whole fucking planet in the whole fucking human history, usually to males with prostate cancer. So whatever you fucking do, don't jump to that conclusion first. You'd have a child's level understanding of the matter if you did.
But then again, thinking that any of this could have anything to do with periods in ANY CASE means you have a child's level of understanding of biology in general. Periods by fucking definition require organs that you don't have, and if you did have them, you would not have had to transition to begin with.
We are in no shortage of active, provocative, violent male politicians in this country. However, it is a retired 78 year old woman who is murdered in her own home. Counter terrorism asked why the local police force were so quick to rule out terrorism as a motive. Anyone has yet to mention femicide.
This is not surprising, of course. Male violence against women is a key pillar of our political system. How else do we perpetuate violence onto other groups? Onto immigrants, POC, transexuals, Jews, Muslims.
If there aren't 'bad' men to hurt women how are the 'good' men supposed to protect them? To have dominion over them?
To call it femicide would be to call attention to the true cause, not the politically useful cause. It would be to undermine the foundation of this country.
A life time of service to the right wing and her murder will be forgotten by her peers once they realise they can't politicise it for their chauvinistic agenda.
I will not grieve Ann Widdecombe for the vile person she was. But I will grieve every victim of gender based violence. I will grieve in a world where women being murdered in their homes by men is commonplace.
