One of these days I’m going to write a one-shot RPG based on those illustrations people keep doing of, like, mice and frogs wearing wizard hats, and it’s specifically going to play with the issues of scale this introduces. Like, yes, your frog wizard can wield their phenomenal cosmic powers to call a meteor down from the heavens to smite their foes, but the meteor in question is the size of a pebble and the resulting explosion of all-consuming hellfire has about a six-inch blast radius. Better make it count!

The average frog maxes out at around 3.5 inches in body length. Assuming a six foot tall humanoid caster, frog magic would, compared to its humanoid counterpart, have its linear range decreased by a factor of 20, its surface area of effect decreased by a factor of 400, and its volumetric sphere of influence decreased by a factor of 8,000. Alternatively, were a frog to attempt humanoid magic, it would need to channel approximately 8000 times the amount of arcane or divine energy through its body as its humanoid counterpart. What would be a level 1 spell for a humanoid would probably be considered a godlike cast for a frog, if such a feat was even attainable.
