reblogging for the art
Billy and Mandy Edition
Definitely worth a reblog, if only for the art.
Person with housemates can study.
Person who has spent all their cash on rent and food still has a place to get out of the house and do something interesting.
Cool community classes and community art shows.
ESL tutoring.
Tax prep and forms.
tbh fuck anyone who says a single bad thing about libraries
Not content I normally reblog but libraries are super important and our world would be diminished without them.
The library was how I was able to read so many books as a kid that my parents wouldnât have been able to afford.
^ I, too, read thousands of dollars worth of books at the library, completely free. It was my haven.

Hagrid going back to Hogwarts after the war, and Harry taking him to Diagon Alley to return the favor :)
I need some books that have queer kids (specifically, gay kids) in them, but itâs not obvious on the cover or on the blurb. Itâs for my younger brother, whoâs in the closet and would get shit from out parents if he tried to buy something âgayâ ya know? Like.. if my parents google the blurb the queer characters canât be the FIRST thing that pops up, you know?
Okay so I did a little google search, and came up with these (PLEASE double check them, just to be safe, okay?; also, I think youâre doing a great thing for your brother, Iâm hugging the both of you so hard!)
* Proxy by Alex London* And I Darken by Kierstan White (the gay romance isnât the focus, but itâs there)* The Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera* Anger is a gift by Mark Oshiro* Picture Us in the Light by Kelly Joy Gilbert* Highly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley
Iâm also leaving a link here to a website I found that could be suuuuuper helpful:Â https://lgbtqreads.com/category/under-the-gaydar/
Hugs! <3Â
Luck In the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling. It is a cool fantasy series with romance that slowly develops and the books donât make it obvious that it has a gay romance in it at all.Â
More Than This by Patrick Ness. Again not super obvious at all.Â
The Five Stages Of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson. The cover and blurb donât make it super obvious at all, and I believe it holds a lot of important messages for younger readers.Â
Friendly Fire by Patricia Gale has gay male characters in it and isnât very obvious about it. It also has male characters exploring femininity which I think is important.Â
Gives Light by Rose Christo is the first in a series. It is very sweet and deals with young gay love well. The cover and blurb donât seem to showcase any lgbtness in my opinion.Â
I havenât read it yet, but The Black Tides Of Heaven by Jy Yang has lots of LGBT themes in it. Iâm looking at my copy now and it doesnât have signs of LGBT characters in it.Â
Peter Darling by Austin Chanted is a gay and trans retelling of Peter Pan. The cover doesnât revel that but a few things in the blurb do.
A Boy Worth Knwoing by Jennifer Cosgrove doesnât look gay from the cover but one line from the blurb alludes to it being gay.Â
The trade paperback of Captain America called âCaptain America Death Of The Read Skullâ (one of the writers is called J.M Dematteis, so just look out for that). The character is an older guy but he is a friend of CA. While it is never stated outright that he is gay it is blazingly obvious that he is and that he has a BF. There is one scene where he goes on a long talk about being less than because he is gay and Captain America gives him a long speech about how he is still a good man and his love is still wonderful. If he likes CA I would really recommend it, it helped me alot when I was younger. And there is no way of knowing it is in there, nothing on the cover or blurb alludes to it.Â
Giant Days by John Allison is a graphic novel set in college. It is about a group of female friends, and one of the girls is gay. I donât think it is super obvious.Â
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson is really really good. While not stated outright there are two guys who can interpreted as being a couple. It also has a really sweet plot and meaningful messages. Plus it is hilarious.Â
Noelle Stevenson also has another series called Lumbejanes which is really sweet. There are characters that are gay/bi and trans in it. I dont think it is very obvious that the series holds LGBT themes.Â
The Tea Dragon society by Katie O'Neill is a super adorable graphic novel with LGBT themes and I donât think anything really gives that away.Â
I havenât read it but Iâve heard very good things about the middle grade book called Drama by Raina Telgrmeir.Â
Later on in the Percy Jackson series there are lots of different LGBT characters and the blurbs and covers donât give that away at all. Plus most of the characters are younger.Â
Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green has an LGBT character and from what I can see it doesnât really give that away.Â
Iâll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson is supposed to have an LGBT character and I donât think anything makes that super obvious
The Trylle series by Amanda Hocking has a minor gay character. He is super sweet and if memory serves correct he gets a Bf. Since he is a minor character no one would know it is in there
Thatâs all I can think of right now but if I remember anymore with younger gay male characters that arenât obvious about it Iâll be sure to add them!
Good luck ! <3Â
You are an angel, thank you soooo much! â¤
Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block (Weetzieâs bestie and eventual roommate - and father of her baby - is gay and has a live-in boyfriend heâs basically married to, but this was before gay marriage, so theyâre partners I believe is the term; set in the 90s)
A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab (the prince of Red London is bisexual; this doesnât get a lot of play in the first book but thereâs a mlm romance subplot in book 2 I believe?)
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (features two bisexual protagonists and one gay protagonist, plus one gay secondary character; the bi dude is crushing on the gay protagonist)
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (itâs about four boys and a girl on a quest; one of the boys is bi and one of them is gay and is in love with the bi boy)
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (imagine a less problematic Harry Potter, but gay; the summary gives none of this away, though)
Adaptation by Malinda Lo (she often writes lesbian couples, but the summary for this one gives none of that away, so is safe for a closet gaybie)
Ash by Malinda Lo (a lesbian retelling of Cinderella; the summary kind of hints at this but your brother could play it off because it reads like the two girls are just friends, even though theyâre not)
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova (bi protagonist who gets with a girl; not hinted at in summary)
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire (features a lesbian protagonist, but this isnât revealed in the summary; you can also check out the other 2 books in the series, but they donât have all the same characters)
Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popovic (itâs about a set of female twins; one is a lesbian with a girlfriend)
Nightâs Master by Tanith Lee (and the rest of the Tales of the Flat Earth series; the world is bi-normative, so most characters are open to sexual relationships and romance with both binary genders; the books are kind of old, but very interesting. Nothing lgbtq+ is hinted at in the summaries)
Wintersong by S Jae Jones (the MCâs brother is gay and gets a boyfriend; warning though, the book handles sex and sexual attraction in a very Puritanical way and itâs rather clumsy; also ends on a cliffhanger)
The Last Herald Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (Magicâs Pawn, Magicâs Promise, Magicâs Price) (the main character comes to grips with being gay and gets a boyfriend; unfortunately, the boyfriend commits suicide, but after a few years the main character gets another boyfriend. Although the MC is killed at the end, his spirit lives on with the spirit of his second love protecting their kingdom)
Unfortunately I canât think of anything else thatâs got same-sex couples where the summary doesnât give it away. Hope that helps, though!
Thank youuuuuuu!!!!
Pro-tip from a Teen Librarian that specializes in queer books:
Go to the library. Most libraries (with an actual librarian) in the US will bend over backwards to get books into the hands of people who need them. If you ask nice, some will even rejacket the book with a plain paper or fake cover. If theyâre unable or unwilling to help conceal the books, buy a stretchy book cover and use the excuse, âI donât like like how the mylar jackets feel.â Itâs a real thing; we have people take the jackets off all the time because of it, but the stretchy cover can go over the top and hide the cover completely.
If youâre unable to checkout books without parental supervision, the library is still a good option; once you have your library card, most library systems have an ebook lending system. You can use them discreetly on your phone through one of their apps. If youâre on Android, you can even side-load some of these apps so they donât show up in your familyâs Google Play library.
If you canât physically get a library card, you still have ebook options.
Overdrive now has a service that lets you get a card by checking your cellphoneâs billing zip code. However, not all libraries pay to have the service available. If youâre in an area that has it, you can get access to ebooks almost immediately.
There are also ebook sharing groups on Goodreads and probably other forums. Kindle books can sometimes be shared to other users (the availability of this depends on the author/publisher), so it is legal. Be careful if anyone chooses to go this route because it requires sharing your email address and any books loaned on Kindle will show up in the Kindle library (which means your parents can see them if youâre on a family account).
Also, shameless plug: Goodreads has a YA LGBT+ Books Group. Join us there, and we can provide more book titles, and more importantly, support. We post queer news, have an area to vent, queer writing challenges, book of the month, share coming out stories, etc.
Good luck, I hope everyone that needs to see themselves in a character is able finds their book.
This is absolutely AMAZING. THANK YOU so so so much for reaching out with these amazing ideas. Youâre an angel <3

I love ravens did you know they help other birds out sometimes and like to bring humans gifts in exchange for food and like to play in the snow and can learn to mimic humans like a parrot and

Then the snake helps Harry throughout his years at hogwarts as harry carries it wrapped around his hand all like âpssssst, haaarryyy, the dark lord isss coming sssâ or just petty shit like âhaaaarrryy, now is the time, assskkk out cho chaaannnggâ
