Generating audio for The Persephone Cycle audio drama

I'm hard at work getting all twelve episodes ready to be exported before I lose access to one of the voices the belongs to a supporting character.

This caused me some distress earlier in the week but coming back to The Persephone Cycle has been a blast! This story is SOOO good and I cannot wait for you to get it in your ears! I'll be putting up the raw audio files for paid members in the next few days meaning there will be something worth subscribing for! Wow!

What is The Persephone Cycle?

Set in 1895 London. It is the story of Cora, the illegitimate daughter of a man who left his high society family to be an artist and then died leaving his family with his mistake.

Cora is twenty now and she's withering. She has her father's artistic soul but her grandmother, the Vance family matron, won't allow her anywhere near the things that stole her eldest son from her. She's a statue dreaming of movement. A canvas praying for color.

Enter Lord Aleron, the Earl of Ashworth, and his newly patronized artist: T. Corbin Croft. Croft sent the undisputed sovereign of the London art scene his proposal and it was accepted. Twelve paintings depicting the entire story of Persephone and Hades in epic Pre-Raphaelite fashion, a form of modern classicism. But Croft is not wholly a traditionalist either. He utilizes the newly exploding technology of photography to enhance his work.

Spotted posing at Lord Aleron's gallery, Cora is recruited to model as Persephone, much to her grandmother's chagrin. But with her uncle's backing and her undeniable talent, once she begins; she's in for the entire set.

But the paintings are just the beginning with a world of history between the Vances and the Earl of Ashworth. As Cora finds her artistic soul, the past will not stay buried, not should it for behind two decades of buried history lies the family she's always wanted, love, and independence: if only she can escape the king of the underworld.

I Had to Steal 16 Hours to Remember How to Cry

This is a follow-up to my prior post about re-reading books.

So I did end up, three days later, stealing 16 hours for myself to revisit The Heir and The Crown by Kiera Cass. And, complete honesty, I forgot how much this set of books 4 & 5 in The Selection series makes me cry.

There is so much great familial love emotion, self-discovery emotion, and yes, the angst of being torn between duty and love which is a huge draw for me. I spent 6 of 16 hours crying and it was so cathartic. It has refilled my well for the writing process but also I learned more about why this is one of my go-tos.

There is so much of my own struggles in the main character Eadlyn: her armor she wears against people getting close is something I relate to completely. The fear of being seen and known by others, of being vulnerable to their judgement. That one has lived in me for years and is a battle I still some times shirk fighting because what does it matter if I fight it? I'm safe in my little bubble.

But living safely and experiencing a life full of all that life has to offer is two very different things. Trying to chase one's dreams from inside the armor of safe is a fallacy that I keep falling for. I can either be safe emotionally, which built the life I already have, or I can dare to open up and face the risks of life and try to soar.

Trying to soar is an activity that is inherently full of pain. And while I am no stranger to pain in my life, I avoid it more often than I embrace it... I caught a glimpse that I might be doing the same things with my characters, pulling punches to spare them the pain that they need to become the hero they are supposed to be.

The suffering of love done right—the emotional intensity of high stakes and impossible choices—is exactly what makes a story unforgettable. If I want to evoke those deep, soul-stirring tears in my readers, I have to stop saving my characters from the fire. I have to write the things that move me and let myself be just as moved as other authors have moved me to deliver the promises I want to deliver as an author.

My encouragement to others is to remember the adage that the things you want most are usually waiting for you on the other side of the thing you fear.

Until you or I or character X faces that fear, we'll never get what we want and we will deny ourselves the best of life in the meantime all in an effort to be safe.

I know, for years of trying to get things done for myself as a creative, that daily posting, especially daily posting with a themed requirement, is not very achievable for me. I love the flow of the work and genuinely hate disrupting that flow to have to go work on something else.

And the solution is genuinely simple.

I just need to share what I am working on right now and share more on the personal journey of it all. Yeah, it is great to see that I have a book series in progress. But the parts that excite are why that book series? What in it called to me? What did I learn while writing it? How did the further questions it raised lead to the development of a series instead of a single story or cause things to spin off into new stories.

These are what I want to post and blog about.

I will, of course, need to market my books but that's not what these support pages or my website are really for. They are to let you in behind that scenes.

So, no. Today isn't going to Renaissance of Self day anymore.

But it is going to be honest and true to me. And I hope that's enough.

6.1.26 - What I am working on/ accomplished this week:

I got Renaissance of Self: Part 1 - The Escape updated on KDP.

The original upload is now labeled as the PICTURE EDITION and it features the character and instrument artwork I create as well as links or QR codes out to the songs I created for the novel: Puffed 'n' Poofy, Amber Moon's Aria, and A Toast to Us.

There is a nw upload that is the REFLOWABLE EDITION and it can be read on any kindle product NOT JUST the app and certain Kindle Fire devices like the fixed page multimedia version. This version is also enrolled in Kindle Select which means that if you are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, you have access to read this book at no additional fee.

The Print version got a cover update with a higher pixel count cover and a correction to my website as another piece of news will discuss below.

Finally this week, I've been hard at work on Episode 2 of the Persephone Cycle.

I started the project two years ago now of making songs for the Renaissance of Self book series. I've posted teasers of And the Road it Went On… covering just the events that we've already seen happen in Part 1: The Escape but there is so much more to the song and it moves me every time I listen.

But this, was from an earlier idea, one that instead of connecting each event with the idea that the road continued on, Cressa was counting the moments that she surrendered a piece of herself to someone.

In order to test Gemini's song creation feature, I plugged that older version in and got this brief little peak. There is something that I connect with in Cressa's singer-songwriter style here but I'm glad the direction changed.
