And that's a wrap!
When Dr Aspen Greaves signed up for the Javelin Program, humanity's first foray into colonising deep space, they expected to wake up to life
For anyone curious, the total time stamp comes to almost exactly 18.5 hours. Phew! Enjoy!! I had fun making it! Thank you for giving folks permission to do this, @derinthescarletpescatarian!
Wizards in a fantasy setting are trying to invent audiobooks.
They tried enchanting the ink in a book so that the words would read themselves aloud but all the words in the book spoke at the same time at a volume that blew out the windows in the tower. They trained a tiny invisible spirit to read the words instead, but it was too tiny to turn the pages on its own, and because it was too tiny to have an imagination it read everything in a flat, emotionless voice.
They tried enchanting the book to come to life and read itself, and this seemed like it was working until around the hundredth page, when it became clear the book was changing the story it was telling to its own tastes. When pressed, the book said that it found the political intrigue in the story written on its pages boring, and that in its opinion the story should be about the witch and the baker, two side characters mentioned in one chapter of the story, fucking. The wizards begrudgingly agreed with this, but still considered this version of the spell a failure.
heated rivalry having everybodyĀ glued to the screen in a breathless 6-episode binge while matt damon admitted that netflix writers repeat plot points 5 times in dialogue becauseĀ āpeople are on their phones so it needs to be like an audiobook and dumbed down, we only write old stuff what the algorithm already favors, weāre desperate for viewersā attentionā like an idiot death loop and a hilarious contrast to HR which proves that watchers are more than willing to focus if the series is well-paced, even if the source material is not shakespeare level or the most epic crime fantasy action banger of all time. and if we want audio only, we look for audio only formats! but who kept a second screen on when ilyaās jealous ass had a whole breakdown in the club? nobody! peopleās enjoyment of moving images and plots isnāt a thing of the past and will never be divorced from humanity because our lives and speech are literally moving and story-telling - if anything, dumbing down screenplays only frustrates movie culture, but from the producing side.Ā itās because you just donāt give the audience what they are looking for (pretty men with curls, good acting, happy endings for gay/bi ppl, fresh faces, and chemistry). and while e.g. the rings of power costs 1 billion in total and all of GOT costs 1.5 billion (!), each HR episode was made with a tiny 2 million budget. looks like big money is not what people want to watch and the industry should follow suit or it will be replaced.

Kaz "great with kids" Brekkerš¦ā⬠in a big pretentious Mafia boss coat so he can cram all his loot
Good news, everyone! My podcastās test season earlier this year was received with such enthusiasm, we immediately got to work on building the machinery that would power a full series. It took all summer, as I and my team applied what we learned we could do differently or better going forward. I only wanted to do all that work once, because I want to do this podcast for years to come. I think we nailed it, and I think I get to hand off everything but the narration to the rest of the team.
So I can so happily shout from the top of a mountain that Itās Storytime With Wil Wheaton Returns October 29th with a spooky story for the spooky season! And that will kick off at least FORTY new episodes.
FORTY!
I am so excited, I made a video about it!
Iāve been reading submissions from Michael, our content editor, and reaching out to authors for permission to narrate their stories. Can I tell you how warm it makes me feel when they tell me they enjoy my work? How happy and grateful I feel when an author tells me they already listen to my audiobooks?
Every single story I have read has been incredible for a different reason. I canāt hardly wait, as the Replacements said, to narrate them. Iām so grateful that I am getting to do what I love for my job. If youāre already subscribed to the podcast, please accept my warmest thanks; I wouldnāt get to do this without you.
One of the unexpected delights has been the Patreon. I did a couple of live AMA things there that were surprisingly fun, so weāre going to do that again, and more often. Iām hopeful that I can even do some author chats, where we can get to know the people who created these stories Iām reading to you. Last time I looked, there were 485 paid subscribers, and like 300 others who are checking us out. That blows me away and Iām so grateful for the support, Iām going to do a special, live, narration of a spooky story, chosen by Patreon, next week. If youāre interested in seeing that, thereās plenty of time to sign up.
A statistically significant number of people asked me if I would ever be on YouTube, but I never wanted this to be a video thing. For me as a performer, I canāt serve the words on the page and play to the audience on the other side of the camera. Imagine going to see someone do a reading in a theater, and they never once look up from the page. Itās weird, right?
But so many people wanted us to be on YouTube, we figured out a way that I think will solve that problem. Iāll introduce the episode on camera, and then the story will be an audiogram. Done and done. Thereās no content at the channel right now, but as soon as there is, Iāll share the link.
Okay, one last thing: Yesterday, I remembered that I had done a narration of Ur Fascism for Radio Free Burrito about five years ago. I felt like it was a good time to resurface it, so I did. And if you want to listen to my favorite episode I have done of RFB so far, with a full production and music and the whole thing that I did entirely by myself, Iām so proud of The Cecil Hotel.
Iām supposed to say that you can subscribe to Itās Storytime With Wil Wheaton wherever you get your podcasts, even if that particular link goes to Apple for stupid SEO reasons.
Thatās all for now. Thanks for listening. Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other.
