This song has single-handedly taken over my life and it’s only been like a week
me the first time i saw this: oh sure that's fun ig
me seeing it again now: fuuuuuuuuck yes the axolotl is back
I know that using the correct pronunciation would affect the rhythm of the song but still i think it would be great to call the axolotl by the name & pronunciation it was given by the people who named it
like axolotl has never been "axe-uh-lot-uhl" (/æk.sə.lɑ.təl/); I don't believe the Nahuatl have ever called it that & it's not like Nahuatl is an extinct language we can no longer learn or something— there's more than a million & a half speakers in Mexico rn
still a great & silly & whimsical song I just can't help but think what a great cultural exchange it could be for [ axolotls becoming popular at least in some circles I've seen ] to also cause [ folks learning just a little bit of Nahuatl & thinking of the land where such marketably cute creatures arose ]
be curious, practice your lateral affricate, and have some fun because you're learning !
