During a time like this where the world’s arguably strongest superpower is being taken over by people who want queer folk dead and buried, it’s especially important that we remember where this comes from.

Keep in mind as we move along these coming months that Pride started with a riot. Pride Month is about standing up to oppressive authority and demanding the rights that everyone has deserved from the start.

It’s pretty neat :)

To those who are interested, here’s what I think, about a week after watching the pilot:

It’s a very interesting concept! I love Kit and Kaboodle lots, and I think that the idea of needing to stop a hero from obtaining their goal because they can’t know of the horrors that will happen once their mission is through is a fun dynamic that I think this show has explored very well!

I think that, for a pilot, Gameoverse is looking great! Even if the other characters aren’t very interesting to me yet, I’ll also admit that none of the characters from TADC were extremely appealing to me from episode one. I have a lot of hope for this series!

On the other hand,

I also think that some of Gameoverse’s critics aren’t entirely wrong. From what we can observe so far, it seems to suffer from One Piece syndrome: Nearly all of the men have unique body shapes whilst all of the women, with one exception, have nearly the exact same body type.

Don’t get me wrong! I don’t think this body type is necessarily bad. If it were only on a single character, I’d say you’d be extremely odd to care about it at all. But, when you apply it to all—except one—of the female characters, and it happens to be one of extremely wide hips and thighs, and it just so happens that none of the male characters have this trait?

It’s deliberate, and that’s something one can’t deny. It’s not just that people’s minds are in the gutter, and it’s not just an art direction; it is on purpose, and you’d be hard-pressed to deny that much, since from what I’ve observed, no one involved in the show has denied it.

And no one is a “bad person” because of it!

Seriously, everyone who talks about this blows it so far out of proportion. It’s their show, they can do it that way if that’s what they want—my only point is that they know that they’re doing it, and that’s alright. It’s no grounds to accuse them of anything on, and especially not people who just enjoy the show!!! If you don’t like a show, you can complain about it—but don’t think it makes anyone else’s opinions less valid!

tl;dr: I do love this show. While I do agree with critiques regarding gender-related body proportions that have been raised, it doesn’t make ANYONE a bad person. It’s a personal critique, and it’s okay!
