Haven't heard from you in a couple of months

It had been 4 months since I'd last seen Mattheo, and by seen I mean since we had the most horrific break up. Words were said, feelings were hurt, and all the toxicity of our relationship came tumbling down like a house of cards. Our friends had to take sides, though some split their time in half like children of divorce. Even thinking of his stupid beautiful face sent pangs of anger through me. I'd thought about texting him more times than I'd like to admit, but he never reached out so I didn't either.

But I'm out right now, and I'm all fucked up

And you're callin' my phone, you're all alone

And I'm sensin' some undertone

That was until I was several drinks deep at a club with my friends. Stumbling and slurring my sentences. My common sense was quickly evaporating as the alcohol of those surprisingly strong fruity drinks coursed through me. My phone vibrated and a smile split across my face. My heart beat out of my chest as I stepped away from my friends.

Clicking the green button and placing my phone against my ear, I said, "Hello?"

A familiar, deep voice called out to me from the phone, "Y/n, how are you?"

Only one word came to mind, "Drunk."

He chuckled, "Me too. I just wanted to hear your voice. I'm alone at my apartment, couldn't help but think of you." His suggestions both angered me and intrigued me.

"Do you want to be alone?"

"No."

Finally, I let myself say what I really wanted. "Where should I go?"

And I'm right here with all my friends

But you're sendin' me your new address

I glanced toward my group of friends. Pansy was grinding to the music with one of my muggle friends, Melissa, Luna was talking to some other girl, and the rest of the girls were paired up with random people I've never seen in my life. They couldn't miss me too much, right?

"I'll see you soon." My phone beeped as the call ended. I get a text almost immediately with his address. He must've moved out of the dump he called an apartment sometime recently.

And I know we're done, I know we're through

But, God, when I look at you

A picture appeared on my screen a second later. Mattheo laid back on his bed, shirtless with a pair of dangerously low grey sweatpants. My thoughts ceased as I scanned over the contours of his body. If I had the cognitive ability at the time, I would've realized that he'd been going to the gym more often. But, I didn't because it was beautiful, muscular, olive skinned, curly haired Mattheo and he never failed to make me go absolutely insane for him.

I swallowed thickly and quickly shut off my phone, I closed my eyes. I shouldn't go and see him, it would mess up everything we've established. Hell, he could get me back with him with the snap of his beautiful fingers and that's not what I want. Then there's what I want, him all of him, everyday forever. I can't have that though so might as well treat myself. One night won't hurt.

As I walked out of the club, the only thing I had left to worry about was what to tell my friends. They know me too well not to figure it out. I've already said the worst lie of them all "I only see him as a friend". There's the idea that we reconnected, but that would imply that there was a relationship to still be had. I could always say that it was an accident. That we were both so drunk and still great friends so we ran to each other. But, I thought the best plan was to lie, lie, lie.

My Uber arrived very shortly after I ordered it. ‘No turning back now,’ I thought as I sat on the leather seats of the car. This is an awful idea, possibly one of the worst, but that picture rung through the halls of my mind and refused to leave. Somehow, I needed him more now than ever before.

My phone went off. It was Pansy asking where the hell I went. All I said was I desperately needed to sleep. Technically, not a lie as I never said where or in whose sheets.

Stepping out of the Uber felt surreal, yet I couldn’t help, but proceed up the stairs towards Mattheo’s front door. As soon as I entered the fancy hallway of his apartment building I spotted him. Back against his door, arms crossed with his sadistically beautiful smirk. His arms were crossed showing off the muscles of his forearms and biceps. My drunken thoughts were fully over taken by him and the scent of his woody cologne. 

I just tripped and fell into his bed

“It’s good to see you again. Really.” He flashed me his usual smirk.

“Just shut up already.” I rolled my eyes and enveloped myself in him. I wrapped my legs around his waist and smashed our lips together. He closed the door and carried me toward his bedroom, as I kissed down his neck. I couldn’t help but wonder, “this isn’t a bad idea, right?”

“You going to the Gryffindor after party tonight?” Marlene asked as she curled her hair with her wand and a heating spell.

“I want to but it’ll probably just be Sirius and James being overprotective pricks.” I replied, applying my daily makeup.

“But, Lupin will be there! This could be your night to get it in with him!” Alice interjected, throwing her notebook down in mock frustration. I had had a ‘crush’ on Remus ever since I first met him and have been trying my best to get his attention yet nothing has worked.

“Remus obviously doesn’t like me like that, I’m over trying to get him to notice how I feel.”

“Come on, Black!” Alice groaned loudly. “Remus is the stupidest genius I know. I mean look at how he looks at you! He just needs a little more fuel!”

“Let us dress you up and do your makeup! If that doesn’t work then you can give up on your true love.” Marlene offered, practically begging me with her eyes to let her give me a makeover.

A beat of silence fell against us before I gave in. “Fine… but this is the last time.”

The girls cheered before getting to work.

The hustle and bustle of a Gryffindor party was already underway by the time we moseyed down stairs. My nerves were already practically vibrating with excitement due to the palpable energy of the common room. As I swung open the door, several sets of eyes landed on me. I felt like the star of one of those muggle movies.

Marlene pushed past where I’d stopped in the doorway, with a squeeze of my shoulder she whispered, “Told ya you look hot.” She kept walking making her way into the dense crowd.

I turned around to face Alice who was grinning ear to ear. She pinched my cheek like a grandma and cooed, “My little masterpiece is finally gonna get laid.” With a giggle, she walked into the party, probably in search of her boyfriend, Frank.

It wasn’t too long into the party before I found the famous marauders. Remus was sat on a couch that faced away from me watching James and my brother, Sirius, chugging some kind of alcohol from colorful plastic cups. Sirius slams his cap down first, cheering before his eyes fell on me. James followed suit, his jaw dropping to the floor.

“Who are you and what have you done to my baby sister?!” Sirius dramatically exclaimed, gesturing toward me erratically. This caused Remus to turn his head toward me. As he looked at me his pupils dilated and he smiled discreetly.

“Respectfully, damn.” James said with a smirk.

Sirius hits him in the chest lightly with the back of his hand. “That’s my sister!” He said with a dramatic (as always) gasp and the clutch of his heart with his other hand. James shrugged and gestured for me to come over. I took the offer and plopped down on the couch next to Remus. Out of the corner of my eye, I could still see him staring at me. He licked his lips, the tips of his ears turning pink.

‘Whoa maybe Alice and Marlene are right,” I thought momentarily.

The conversation kept flowing between me, James, and Sirius, especially since James was always extra bubbly and talkative when drunk. However, Remus didn’t make a peep the whole of the night that was until James and Sirius left us on the couch to talk up two pretty best friends they saw.

“Sooooo…” I dragged out my words awkwardly. “What’s up, Rem?”

“Nothing. It’s nothing.” He replied smiling but his eyes never met mine.

“It’s okay if there is, I’m always here for you.” I bumped my shoulder with his.

A moment of silence dropped before he blurted. “You look gorgeous.”

Blood ran toward my cheeks. “Thank you, Remus. You look pretty gorgeous yourself.” A shifted closer to him and his eyes finally met mine.

“I look like a sack of beets compared to you.”

“That’s one handsome sack of beets.”

He blinked at me before asking, “Are you flirting with me?”

“Maybe. Are you with me?”

“Perhaps.” My heart raced.

“Would you… hypothetically like to go out sometime?” I ask, bracing for rejection.

“I would love to.” He smiled softly and placed a hand in mine. “How about a picnic and I could read to you just like you like? Hypothetically of course.”

“Sounds like a dream.” We laughed and I felt once again like I was in a movie.

Hours. It has been hours since the time Theodore had told me he would arrive. Two to be exact, sitting on a cold bench waiting for him to come and say all the right things as usual.

It’s the dead of winter yet I can’t bring myself to leave. My fingertips turned numb a while ago and my nose had begun to run.

How could he forget? Am I that disposable to him? Am I not worth the effort? The thought alone caused hot tears to roll down my cheeks. The insecure questions kept racing back and forth through my mind. My breathing sped up and my brain felt as though it was rattling around my skull.

“Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.” I repeated, hugging my arms around my chest to self-soothe. It calms me enough to pull myself to my feet. Shakily breathing and still sobbing, I walk my sorry self all the way back to Hogwarts. Taking the most abandoned route I knew.

By the time I made it into the Slytherin common room, I had hoped I’d be calmer, but tears still poured from my eyes regardless. I rushed through hoping to make it to my dorm without being seen by one of the boys.

I knew my plan had failed when I heard my brother’s voice calling me. When I didn’t stop he rushed over and stood in front of me.

“Y/n, why are you crying? What happened?” He asked.

I looked around the common room that was teeming with people before responding, “It’s nothing, Enzo.”

I tried to squeeze past him, but he blocked me. “It’s definitely not nothing.”

“Look, if we’re gonna talk about this can it be somewhere more private?” Tears continued to glide down my face. There was a massive pit in my stomach and I thought I might’ve thrown up.

Enzo led me up to my dorm and sat next to me on my bed. He wrapped his arm around and shoulder and squeezed me. “Now can we talk?” He asked.

My voice shook as I explained Theo not showing up to our date. I rambled until I ran out of tears, Enzo just sat there listening.

When I was done he hugged me closer and kissed the top of my head. He released me and announced, “I’m gonna go give Theodore a little visit.”

“Do you even know where he is?” I asked, standing and blocking Enzo’s exit.

“I know exactly where that nitwit is, come on.” He said, shoving me gently out of the way and rushing out the door. I scrambled to keep up as he half ran to their shared dorm.

Enzo sighed as he unlocked the door to reveal Theo passed out on his bed. Relief flooded through my chest, he hadn’t maliciously missed our date, he was just dead asleep. Annoyance replaced my sadness, as Enzo stepped aside and let me walk in closing the door behind me.

I gently sat on Theo’s bed before aggressively shaking him. He shot up with a gasp. “Good afternoon, jackass.” I smiled.

He rubbed the sleep from is eyes and half groaned, “What’s wrong baby?”

“I’ll give you a little refresher; you and me at Hogsmeade about 2 and a half hours ago.”

He sat still for a moment, before his eyes widened. “Oh shit! I’m so sorry Y/n!”

“You better be I stood outside in the cold for almost 2 hours waiting for you!”

“This isn’t an excuse, but I had fallen back asleep after quidditch. I wasn’t thinking and I’m sorry, amore mio.” He stood up and walked to me, grabbing my face and cradling it gently. “I would never purposefully stand you up.”

“I know. It made me really sad when you didn’t show up though.”

“And I’m sorry I made you feel that way. I love you, principessa.” He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me into a hug and a kiss.

“I love you too, idiot.”

"Oh, would you look at that! Two little mudbloods and their dirty little boyfriends!" The arrogant voice of Draco Malfoy called out from before us. "Enjoying the day, Potter?"

"I was before you got here, what do you want, Malfoy?" Harry asked, still lazily toying with the snitch in his hand, resting upon the oak tree that was giving us much needed shade.

"I saw you should look at me when you talk to me, Potter. Have a bit of respect for your superiors." He stops for a brief moment, but just not long enough for Harry to get in any words. "That execution yesterday was quite fun, bloody bird deserved it for all it did for me. Had to stay the night in the hospital wing I did! But, I got my revenge via a sharp metal blade slicing through its nasty little neck. My father said-" Draco's little victory speech stopped dead in it's tracks when Hermione jumped up and stuck her wand on his neck.

"Go on, keep talking, Malfoy." She said.

Draco whimpered his face contorting into one of fear. She let go and began to walk back to us after a beat of his fear. "Knew she wouldn't do anything. Stupid mudblood's too much of a bitch to go against me! Surprised she didn't call over her stupid little girlfriend!"

At that she turned right back around and she punched Draco Malfoy right across his stupid face. He immediately grabbed his face, looked as if he was going to say something else, though better of it, and ran away like a little baby.

She finally did it, she took all those years of teasing and anger and she snapped. I've never been prouder of her and I've never had felt this way before either. Something about her punching him made my insides feel like they flipped around. The blood rushed around my body at the mear sight of it and I couldn't figure out why.

"That felt good." Hermione said, shaking her now red hand.

"Not good, bloody brilliant." Ron replied, thoroughly impressed.

"Nice job," I said after an awkward beat, putting a hand on her shoulder. Harry and I locked eyes, he raised his brows at me as if knowing something I didn't.

"It won't be as nice when they send Snape after you." Harry commented, leading our group towards the common room.

"I say it's worth it. Malfoy finally got what deserved on a silver platter. Thanks to Hermione that is." I said, smiling at Hermione. I couldn't help but notice the pink blush that had spread across her cheeks.

"The things he was saying about Buckbeak were just awful! Malfoy is the reason he was set for execution in the first place, I've never seen someone brag about getting an innocent creature murdered before!" She ranted, stomping up the stairs.

"At least we know that Buckbeak is alive," Ron offered. "He's safe with Sirius now."

"That's not the point, Ron. It's the fact that Malfoy thinks Buckbeak is dead, yet is still bragging about being the cause. That's like if I stabbed you right now and bragged about it, but you were still breathing." I said, before mumbling out the password to the common room.

"That's a crazy comparison, Y/n." Harry replied with a laugh. "Besides, I don't think that Ron could survive a stabbing, he can't even survive not eating for a half hour."

"Hey! That's not true! My record is 36 minutes!" Ron said, defensively while taking an obnoxious bite of a chocolate bar.

"Six minutes is not going to help your argument, Ronald." Hermione sighed, setting down her bag and sitting almost too close to me on the old, red love seat. Our group fell into a comfortable conversation, but I just sat listening to the small crackles of the fireplace. The common room was completely empty besides us, everyone including the teachers had been outside enjoying the rare sunny day.

We were so close, I could smell Hermione's perfume. It was vanilla and some kind of floral I couldn't quite put my finger on. The warmth of her body encapsulated mine and my heart fluttered. As before mentioned, I'd never felt this way. Hermione made me feel like the universe is falling and all there is left is us. Being close to her feels like a rare summers day, a gentle graze of a butterfly's wing.

She confused the hell out of me. Harry nor Ron made me feel like this, Ginny and Luna didn't either. Something about Hermione was totally and completely different. I thought sometimes that I could be in love with her, but I was never sure. 'How could that be?' I would ask myself. 'We're best friends, nothing more.' But, sometimes it sure felt like something more.

I'm not sure how long I had spaced out, but by the time I was back both Harry and Ron had disappeared (not that I was complaining). Hermione was still sat next to me, but when I looked over she was starring right at me, her eyes slowly scanned my face.

"What?" I giggled, looking back at her.

She grinned and her face heat up. "I don't know..." She drifted her words off and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. "You're just... so pretty it hurts."

At her words, my stomach bottomed out. My heart felt like it was about to exploded in my chest. "Really?" I stuttered out, my throat felt like it was collapsing and I noticed just how close we were.

"Really." She breathed out.

"Can I try something?" I asked, my heart pumping impossibly faster.

"Yes."

Next thing I knew we were kissing. Her soft lips pressed against mine and it felt like heaven. Every nerve in my body seemed to vibrate as I placed a hand on her jaw to pull her closer. I didn't want to pull away, if I could've stayed there forever I would've. Unfortunately, air is necessary for human survival so I pulled away.

"Wow." She said.

I gulped, my saliva felt as thick as concrete. "I don't know about you, but I really liked that experiment."

"Me too." We sat and smiled at each other.

After a beat of staring I finally said, "I think I'm a lesbian."

"Me too." She said, her voice slightly wavering. I couldn't help but laugh.

"This explains a lot."

"It does, now that I think about it I've wanted to do that for years." She laughed, moving to hold her hand in mine.

Finally, it was my turn to say, "Me too."

It’s been 2 years since it happened and we still had no idea what it was. It was like one day the world collapsed, people started dying of disease, and governments started quickly crumbling. It was a disease that could spread through any kind of contact with the infected.

I had been with Remus throughout all of it. We had been living in our remote cottage when the catastrophe struck, so we were in very little danger. That was until people began fleeing cities to remote places like ours and spreading the infection everywhere. That’s when we began traveling.

“I think there’s a cabin up ahead.” I said to Remus, wiping the sweat off of my forehead. Everyday we traveled miles through thick forests until we could find shelter for the day. It was hard and dangerous, but it was better than being stationary.

The logs of a cabin began to appear through the thicket. He replied, “Looks like no one’s been here in a minute. We’ve lucked out, love.”

It was a large cabin with giant windows that took up the whole of the front of the building. I whistled. “Must’ve cost a fortune, shame it’s gone to waste.”

Nature had definitely had a hay day covering the mansion of a cabin because it was covered head to toe in greenery.

“Shame for them, treasure for us.” He whispered, cutting through the foliage and leading me to the front door. “Open the door slowly, there could be something inside.”

I nodded as I grabbed the brass door knob and turned it slowly bringing it toward me.

Remus creeped in first, carrying an old hunting knife we had found awhile back. He gazed around the cabin before quickly motioning for me to follow.

We explored the cabin slowly with no issues until we went upstairs. As per usual, I opened the door, except Remus had still been looting the previous room and was not behind me like I had thought.

When the door swung open a large, human figure was right in front of me. I screamed and scrambled away from the room Remus ran over and plunged his knife deep in the chest, yet it didn’t fall.

Remus began to laugh, stepping away so I could see his victim. I looked over my assailant, it was a dress form that wore an elegant purple ball gown and has adorned with a platinum blond wig. It had the full body of a human, but it was so obviously not human. We burst into a fit of breathless giggles.

In between laughs, I gasped out, “To be fair, it’s the most realistic dress form I’ve ever seen.”

“You scared the shit out of me! What were you thinking?” He laughed.

“Hey! I wasn’t the one who stabbed it!”

He breathed, recovering from our shared laughing fit, and pulled me into a safe hug. “God, I love you.”

“I love you too. Thank you for protecting me, even if it’s just from fashion.”

“Hey pretty girl.” A deep voice said from behind me. I rolled my eyes and turned my head to see Draco Malfoy holding a black lilly, adorned in his usual casual black suit.

“Hello Malfoy.” I replied continuing to busy myself with my homework.

He sat down next to me and hissed out a sigh. Draco set the lilly behind my ear, tucking my hair back, and commented, “Not even going to the first name?”

“I’m a bit busy for your games today, Draco.”

“That’s fine by me, love.” He groaned as he stretched his long legs onto the coffee table across from him. “I could sit here and watch you study all day.”

“Bit creepy that is.” Blaise commented as he walked through the common room and up the stairs.

“Stay out of this you, pratt!” Draco yelled after him.

I sighed and half slammed my Transfiguration book shut. “What is it that you want?”

“A few moments of your complete and undivided attention.” He took his legs off of the table and smirked at me, his signature silver eyes gleaming.

There was a beat of silence before I said, “Well, go on then handsome. Spout out your surely well rehearsed speech.”

He smiled. “Y/n, ever since I saw you for the first time in first year I’ve known you’re the one for me. Not only because you’re beautiful, confident, and pure, but because of the way you perceive the world. I like you, Y/n, more than I’d like to admit. Will you go out with me?”

My heart sped up and I looked him up and down. It had been a few weeks since he had started surprising me with gifts and constant flirting, but I had thought it was a joke. It hit me like a ton of bricks and there was only one answer in my mind. “Yes.”

“Yes?” He asked, almost like he didn’t believe it.

“Yes. I would love nothing more.” We exchanged giddy grins sitting in a beat of silence, just staring at each other.

A beautiful electricity seemed to surround us and I forgot of everything real as we went in for a kiss. He placed his hands of the sides of my face, pushing my cheeks together and giving him leverage to deepen the kiss. Fire coursed through my body as I moved to sit on his lap.

We made out on that common room couch for was felt like hours, getting only occasional gulps of air. Once we finally parted, we kept our chests plastered together despite being red in the face and gasping for air.

“So, uhh… can we do more of that?” I asked, giggling at his crimson cheeks and ears that contrasted so heavily against his paper white skin.

“Yes. Most definitely.” He laughed breathily, running a hand up and down my arm.

“Yes.” I sighed. What a great word.

Work, work, and work Sirius swore these days it’s all that he did. Back when his dream of running his own tattoo shop was nothing but that he had had no idea what it would entail.

For the past week, he had been clogged with appointments. So many people had wanted custom tattoos, so he was drawing constantly. Then, it came to actually doing the pre booked tattoos which could take hours. As well as, walk ins that paid well, but took just as much time. Even when sharing the work load with James it was hard. Remus was out on vacation meaning Sirius had to take over bookkeeping and running the business. He swore he’d never have to do math, but there he was doing basic algebra at 8 am.

In short, Sirius was absolutely swamped. He had even been sleeping (albeit only a few hours) at the shop. His overfull mind only becoming more painful in the hours away from her.

Her. His only paradise. His pretty baby. The only girl for him.

He got small tastes of Y/n throughout the day, but it didn’t satiate his desire for her. Everyday at 11:30 am, she would bring him lunch during her break at her own job. She could be doing anything else, but she wanted to spend her rest time on him. Sirius loved it so much he felt sick. Often, he would be thinking about her so much that he wouldn’t be able to eat. He was unable to stomach the sweetness that he felt he never deserved.

Sirius walked into the apartment on Saturday night exhausted. Y/n called out to him, “Siri? Is that you?”

He didn’t respond quietly slipping off his shoes and coat. She turned the corner, running up to him and nearly sliding on the laminate floor. She wrapped her arms around him, placing her forehead on his.

“Hey baby,” Sirius sighed. “I missed you.”

She leaned away and smiled at him. That sweet smile that made him feel like he was going to faint. “I missed you more!”

Sirius moved to brush a thumb against her lips relishing in everything about her, before his gently pulled her into a kiss. It was soft and sweet and if he didn’t know better, Sirius would suspect he was going into cardiac arrest.

He had been a mess. Drinking constantly, using, and not being able to hold a stable job. Despite all of his problems, she had pulled him up and out of it.

Sirius had lost yet another job the day he had started that fateful drunken binge. Maybe, it was the cheap vodka or the combination of it and the weed, but he had called her.

When she arrived at his place after a very concerning phone call, you had found him on the floor half dead. From then on she never stopped taking care of him. She never asked what really happened.

Y/n and Sirius got ready for bed and laid down on their soft shared mattress for the first time in what felt like weeks.

She ran her fingers over his scarred up arms and chest. She kissed his lips, while caressing the marred skin. Sirius pulled away and kissed down her neck, nipping at all of the places he knew she liked. Out of the corner of his eye he could see her smiling under the dim lamp light.

“Fucking hell, you’re heaven.” He chuckled, saying a word between every soft peck of her neck.

“I could say the same about you, Siri.” She giggled, pulling him close to her, not planning on letting go anytime soon.
