not an unpopular opinion at all but the left/the communist movement/whatever needs to reclaim secularism. secularism is one of the best ideas that came out of the enlightenment. we should oppose christian fundamentalism, chasidic/haredi fundamentalism, islamic fundamentalism, and every other form of religious extremism.
children should be entitled to a secular education, and vulnerable groups like women, children, LGBTQ people, etc should be safe from the harm caused by religious fundamentalists.
A South Carolina lawmaker on Tuesday had to fight back tears as he explained that an anti-abortion law he’d voted for led to a young woman nearly losing her uterus, and even put her life at risk. Republican State Rep. Neal Collins told the state’s House Judiciary Committee that he’d lost sleep after learning about the case of a 19-year-old woman whose water broke after just 15 weeks of pregnancy. He said that because the fetus had a heartbeat, lawyers advised doctors that they could not remove the fetus, despite that being the recommended medical course of action. The young woman was discharged from hospital. “First, she’s going to pass this fetus in the toilet,” Collins said. “She’s going to have to deal with that on her own.” He added that a doctor told him that there was a “greater than 50 percent chance that she’s going to lose her uterus” and “there’s a 10 percent chance that she will develop sepsis and herself die.” “That weighs on me,” Collins added. “I voted for that bill. These are affecting people.”
Not here for the bullshit fake tears. Anything voted into law can be voted out of law again. Either vote to make abortion legal again or fuck right off with your fake ass crocodile tears.
AND THEN HE DIDN’T VOTE AGAINST THE NEW ANTI ABORTION BILL THEY WERE THERE TO DISCUSS.

why are literally the most beautiful girls in the world working meenynum wage type retail jobs. girl youshould be. in a temple. writing poetry. god. I don't fucking know
i think it's probably best for society if we stop treating bigoted influencers like andrew tate (etc) like some kind of harmless funny joke. we have made this mistake a lot - treating people with extremist views as if they're "so unhinged they're not a problem". we give them free press. i wouldn't even know the name "andrew tate" but for the fact i saw someone making fun of him.
i get it. sometimes they say things that are so off-the-wall incorrect that the only way to respond is to laugh.
but the thing we've seen from alex jones (and many others) is that they don't need to be extreme the whole time. they just need to use shock value enough to get hate-watches. most of these people will demand that you "watch the whole video." this is intentional. at some point in their content, they will probably make a comment that you do believe in - let's call that comment "the gateway comment". (we'll come back to this).
from the point of view of someone who worked in digital marketing (sorry), every form of interaction with these influencers does benefit them.
most hate-watchers will navigate away. but the algorithm still sees that original click. at the minimum, that influencer will be rewarded for click-through. and every public mention of the influencer adds to their SEO. every ironic comment, every redirect, every angry response - it pays the influencer. and if you mention/see/interact enough with even negative content about that person, your algorithm will start feeding you "andrew tate related" materials. it only sees that you interact with that, it does not calculate for if you approve/disapprove.
it might even be able to find materials that have that above "gateway comment." you don't necessarily disagree with it, and it's not as extreme as the usual shit you've heard. but the gateway comment will lead you to influencers who aren't as extreme as the original. and those will have their own gateways. this is how you are slowly pulled into the sense that maybe something you used to see as extreme is now rote to you - and that is extremely concerning.
and no, none of us are able to escape this. the reason it works is because it's based on the law of large numbers - the algorithm works by over-feeding you. but what you remember is the stuff that is extreme. i am not calling you stupid - i'm saying that a very-expensive and constantly-learning machine program is very good at its job. it was designed to do this and only this. you were designed to be a person - you have other programming that is more important to your function.
the best way to engage with these people is to not engage with them ever at all. to give them no interaction. and to, as much as you can, lift up other voices instead. give the right people your click-throughs and your retweets and your name dropping.
being extremist is profitable and we need to stop treating it like it's "so unhinged it's funny" when instead it's "an extremely effective marketing technique."

Boomers NEVER had compounding interest on their student loans. Their criticism of other generations is worthless.
By the way with the supreme court reopening Lawrence and considering making anything other than cishet vanilla sex illegal, the "kink at pride" debate needs to die, right fucking now. We're about to see firsthand why kink and queer rights are so closely tied together and what we need is to stand in unity. This also means queer discourse needs to die, right now.
Listen, everyone. You have pride because of leather daddies and Trans Women of Color. You have pride because of the same people you're ashamed to accept into the community.
We're all about to become targets, and we can't win separated. And we especially need to protect our most vulnerable, we need to protect the members of our community that will get targeted the most.
Discourse needs to end. The United States' fascism and hate is getting worse, and anyone that knows their world history knows things might get really bad here soon, and it's more important than ever that we can stand together. If we get caught up on labels or "is this person really LGBT" or anything like that, the people that hate us all for existing will divide and conquer and we will all lose.
Op said it best

People around here: [PNW attitude towards making way for someone]
I will always go first apparently.
BREAKING NEWS: 35-year-old member of the largest Oregon polycule, Cricket Equinox-Moonbeam, dies of birth complications after holding in child for 26 days post-due date "so that little bastard isn't a Sagittarius".
It’s scabbing and so it itches A LOT and I’m struggling a lot to not touch it... but it’s beautiful and perfect and everything I wanted.
Disclaimer: if you say a single word about ancient curses, I will rip your head off for your very Christian and Eurocentric approach toward ancient non-Western cultures. If you want to know more about my tattoo, the woman who had it close to two millennia before me, or my own reasons for the tattoo, I’m happy to answer those questions. If you tell me I’m cursed because you think everything ancient holds some magical and malevolent power, I will actually destroy you.
Dermatologists hate her! Achieve the complexion of a 1500 year old mummy with this one weird trick!
If it was a before/after pic, it would've made the whole "this is definitely NOT cursed, how dare you" part of the post a bit sus
No one will let me just wither away in peace, it’s all “why did you invoke the curse” this and “ancient sins” that...
#wait its not a before and after ????? what is it (via @head-too-full)
The second picture is the ancient scythian mummy that my very alive wife got tattoo of (shown in the first picture)
"my very alive wife" what aren't you telling us
Shit, BABE THEY'RE ONTO US, SCATTER!
?????? It's... It's not? It's a normal depth tattoo that has since healed normally? I'm not sure what's making you say that.
Sorry to upset; it's really black and my experience with tattoos led me to think it was like a couple friends' who have tattoos which look similar and are basically 3 dimensional due to scarring - obviously that's not the case here and I shouldn't assume my experience is universal
Nah it's ok I was just very confused but I can see why you might make that mistake.
this pic was taken only a couple of days after the tattoo (thus why it's still raised) and it had just been moisturized. It's very dark both bc of the moisturizer giving it temporary vividness and bc it's just normal healing "scabs" (not proper scabs but you know what I mean) of ink that hadn't started to dry out or flake yet.
Proud to say I've never sent anon hate, not proud to admit I regularly say stuff that comes off very incorrectly / I didn't fully think through; and must eat crow. On the other hand I'm willing to eat my crow when I fuck up, sometimes to the point of accepting non-viable criticisms. So we're at an impasse of pride and failure, as is life.

Some pics from a cheese contest that took place at the village yesterday :) The cows responsible for the cheese were invited and had their own contests on the side, with a little podium for cows constructed out of hay bales. When Licorice the cow won a prize, the little girl that was leading her climbed on the makeshift podium proudly but hesitantly (“is that thing stable….?”)—meanwhile Licorice was rushing her, like let me climb up there! I won! It was so cute.
There were buffets where you could blind-taste dozens of different cheeses, a separate contest for cheese pastries, and a mini-street market outside where among other things local farmers were selling their cheeses in little cardboard cones like French fries.
The librarian’s husband told me he had been selected as jury member for one of the cheese pastry competitions and had to taste 24 different pastries over the course of the morning. He got to take the 3rd prize winning pastry home and then gave me a big slice of it (“for your dinner”) as he did not intend to eat cheese again in any configuration for at least a week.
^ I loved that strange little fellow. It’s a toy cheese press!
here's the story. i know expressvpn has been recommended in some 🏴☠️ how-to posts but it is not trustworthy. the parent company, kape technologies, not only used to distribute malate but has ties to multiple state surveillance agencies. and be careful where you look for info about good vpns, because kape technologies owns a bunch of "vpn review" sites too
In case anyone can’t read the article for whatever reasons, the VPNs acquired are:
ExpressVPN
Private Internet Access
Zenmate
CyberGhost
And the VPN review sites they purchased are:
vpnMentor
Wizcase
So if you use any of those, time to look for other options.
Well, shit. I heard about this with ExpressVPN, but I switched to--- Private Internet Access. Fuck.
Anyone got any recommendations? I'm against NordVPN just because their advertising strategy is obnoxious.
@ms-demeanor I'm sorry I don't remember what your computer side blog is but I know you have suggestions for this kind of stuff
I know fuck all about VPNs but PrivacyGuides.Org has trustworthy recs and I trust the Proton organization a lot and ProtonVPN looks pretty solid.
