[Veganismâs] not âtheâ solution to all the worlds problems but no solution would be complete without it.
- Dr. Melanie Joy on Earthling Edâs podcast âVegan Infighting & Why Your Family Wonât Go Veganâ
......im not gonna say it
Tempted to run a cottagecore nblw blog ngl. This one's good to log into every once in a while but sometimes it drives me too crazy how dense people are.
happy disability pride month, can this website stop acting like autism and adhd are the only disabilities ever please
My blog's main purpose is intertwined with my disabilities so there will definitely be more disability posts here!
I find it funny that people like @xhausofglamx call me a carnist when they probably don't even know who coined it and definitely don't know that she is a major hypocrite in her "activism" by perpetuating the same bigotry she supposedly advocates against.

"harassed by vegans"
"attacked by vegans"
"guilted by vegans"
"shamed by vegans"
When it's actually just vegans disrupting your cognitive dissonance about eating dead animals and asking you to show some compassion towards sentient beings. But phrasing it in such violent ways gives a very specific image of vegans and their advocacy, completely diverting attention from the suffering of animals.
But you see it like:
Care about animals = kill all humans
P.S. My personal favourite is "militant veganism" because it implies that vegan advocacy entails systematic violence against carnists which is considered morally justified and even encouraged in society.......... You know like the systematic violence against animals which is considered morally justified and even encouraged in society
Completely diverting the attention away from the victims, a classic carnist tactic/response. Itâs a very selfish act.
You say that as you do the exact same thing. I'm a victim yet you don't care about me at all. Odd how that works.
Stop making veganism about you. Itâs not about you. Its not about me. Itâs about speaking out for the victims and doing what we can. Stop making veganism about you.
Stop ignoring bigotry and maybe I will :)

Though the jokes that "since gay pride month is over, july is now gay wrath month" are funny and all, it's important to remember that July is ACTUALLY Disability Pride Month and ya'll should really be focused on boosting disabled voices and issues this month! For instance, the fact that marriage equality doesn't actually truly exist in the United States for disabled people, or the fact that disabled people are forced to live in poverty or lose their disability benefits, or the fact that 1 in 5 people with chronic pain end up sufferring from alcoholism or other addictions, or how accessibility is still a daily battle for all of us, or how there are active hate groups on places like reddit who try to "call out" those they see as "faking" their disabilities.
This July, boost disabled voices. Talk about the issues that our community faces. Call out ableism.
More issues, and none of them fun to think about:
-most places arenât even accessible for the most basic wheelchair use, and a lot of them were created AFTER the ADA was already in place.
-calling out ADA violations- from blocked parking spaces to refusing to maintain the elevators- often gets us attacked.
-half of all police murder victims are disabled (boost Black disabled people and people with communication disabilities especially).
-mentally ill people usually canât get help for our physical disabilities (combo of âall in your head- even with physical evidence of disabilityâ and âI donât want to bother accounting for the interactions between my treatment and your mental medsâ).
-under institutionalization and conservatorship laws, we can lose even our most basic human rights, without even being allowed to choose our own lawyers.
-understaffing in institutions leads to horrific neglect and rampant abuse, but hey, at least weâre not annoying you on the streets or âhurting ourselves.â
-Buck vs Bell has never been expressly overturned, and disabled people still get forcibly sterilized, forced to have IUDs, and forced to have abortions. All of which makes it easier for our rapists to go unpunished, not to mention violating our fundamental human right to make our own choices for our body.
-we have some of the highest abuse and assault rates of any marginalized people (non-institutionalized 30%, institutionalized 80%), and half of the institutionalized women who have been raped were raped more than 10 times (40% of all institutionalized women). âNo one will believe you. Youâre too stupid to report me. Iâll punish you if you do.â And fellow coworkers support rapists by refusing to report them.
-most of the time, our rapists are only caught when we give birth.
...Iâll end it here for my nerves, not because thatâs all there is.
Re blogging again with this important addition

âall vegan leather is plasticâ well i just found a tiktok
the brand is called desserto!! if youâre interested in some ethical vegan leather products iâd definitely recommend them from what iâve seen. Their instagram is here and their facebook page is here Hereâs a little more about it:
Thanks to its strong molecular bonding in which cactus plays an important role, DessertoÂŽ offers high resistance to abrasion, rubbing, tearing, tensile and a great durability, this organic, sustainable material is a great alternative to animal leather and other synthetic materials that are not environmentally friendly.
also it may be better than animal leather durability/performance wise, as well as being vegan and environmentally friendly;
Although animal leather is very resistant it is permeable and can even rot or crack if not dried quickly after it gets wet. DessertoÂŽ has competitive features handling humidity and liquids very well, itâs fully customizable and breathable.
Here is a link to their bags/purses and here is a few more purses
i havenât personally tried out there brand but if any of you have please let us know how it is!
@sunshine-wlw
Just since I donât see people mentioning it in the comments, Dessertoâs cactus leather (who supplies other cactus leather companies like Black Nopal) is only 1/3 cactus, and is still 65% polyurethane: http://thecircularlaboratory.com/plant-based-plastic-leathers-an-update-according-to-science
They say itâs PVC-free and pthalates-free and partially biodegradable as a way to conveniently hide that itâs not plastics-free:
While it is possible to have a material that is recyclable as well as biodegradable and even compostable (able to be degraded under realistic composting conditions), the majority of âplant-basedâ leathers fall into a category which is neither â they are mixtures of plastics (typically polyurethanes) and natural materials. One particular example we highlighted was the example of Desserto, a material which we uncovered (based on its listing on a material database that has since promptly been deleted) was mostly polyurethane, with only a small amount of natural material mixed in. And posts like these are why I created my account.
I literally have trauma from being harassed and attacked by vegans, but will they acknowledge it? Never.
Vegans will see clear, unbiased evidence that their holier-than-thou lifestyle of supposedly âreducing sufferingâ doesnât actually reduce any suffering at all & think someoneâs claiming moral superiority. But sure, weâre the ones with the ethical insecurities - projecting much? XD
For sure lol
Someone will say "this particular method of raising animals is humane and this method of raising crops is unethical, so animal ag isn't inherently bad and crop ag isn't inherently more moral" nd every ARA in a 5 mile radius will crawl out to go "oh so you're saying animal abuse never happens on farms? You think vegans are responsible for climate change? You disgust me"
At this point I think ARAs just gave a bullet list of "things those damn carnists believe" and just slap one of them onto a post by a nonvegan instead of actually reading it
people really say âyouâre v*gan if youâre trying to reduce harm as much as possibleâ but like. what if giving a cow a painless death seems very low on the harm scale to me in comparison to things like banana republics and slave labor
death isnât bad. there are things much worse than death, especially when itâs a cow weâre talking about, which live entirely in the moment
I just genuinely disagree that you can just assume plant production is always going to be less cruel or harmful then livestock production
No one ever acknowledges this point of view lol
why do ppl not consider that some of us do want to minimize the harm out diets cause but donât agree that raising food animals is necessarily cruel
Animals will breed anyway! Everything dies and at least they get to die painlessly! Things are dying and sentient (mostly human) beings are suffering so you can eat and you just canât quantify suffering
just bc animals will breed and live and die of their own accord doesnât mean itâs a okay to kill and eat them against their will jesus christ have some empathy
itâs also ok to eat dogs and cats for the record
"Have some empathy"
That's what people who don't care about people say.
^^
Seriously at least half of that community cares so much about animals that all of their empathy for human beings leaves their brain.

My one safe tag was infiltrated by ed accounts so yk ://
iâm firmly convinced that a lot of carnists â especially leftist-progressive ones â are reluctant to the idea of veganism because itâs too easy, rather than too difficult
Ah yes needing to completely rework your diet and buying choices is definitely so much easier! Itâs definitely even easier when youâre disabled though right? Or donât live near grocery stores? Or canât afford to? But itâs easy for you, so itâs easy for everyone, right?
iâd assume you do know that veganism is about reducing your harm through choice of consumption as is practicable within your own possibilities. veganism, as the philosophy that it is, is perfectly inclusive of people with eating disorders, dietary and financial restrictions, mental and physical issues, literally everyone - including yourself veganism is not an organization with a set of religious dogmata. itâs the ethical proposition that we as consumers have a moral obligation to choose as cruelty-minimized options as we are able to in our current situation this is what i mean when i say people are too afraid of going vegan, because itâs too easy. the one difficult part, admittedly, might be getting over your taste preferences and choice of cosmetics and clothes at first. but the more you remind yourself who and what is actually behind that leather belt you just purchased, the easier it gets
Iâm aware of that, however as much as practicable and possible can be pretty much nothing for people like me; and the community has a habit of not only despising that but harassing people for it. Like just scrolling through the vegan tag thereâs so much hate for people who canât go more vegan, or flat out denying that they canât, or people who start as vegetarian. Like vegetarian is all I can physically do but Iâve gotten so much hate for saying that it completely deters me not only from the community but the movement itself.
Not to mention thereâs multiple definitions of vegan, and that unfortunately is not the most common one.
But, as you might have seen depending on how much you scrolled through my account, I try and be more environmentally friendly in every other way I can. Iâm working (although itâs much more difficult with my disabilities) to be as plastic free as possible, Iâm vegetarian for the animals, I do environmental volunteer work, etc etc. But eliminating eggs and milk from my diet would actually kill me, despite what the Militant Vegans believe.
i very much admire any activism towards betterment within your own grasp, which i donât even do much of myself despite my possibilities, but i canât really muster the energy and resources as of right now, which âthe communityâ would likely pan me for all the same thatâs why i urge people not to think of veganism as a community or organization, because itâs a sentiment, a state of ideology. the same way that antifa is not a group, or communism is not a fellowship. because once you associate any idea with its followers, youâll inevitably taint your views on the idea itself and inadvertently hate it, instead of reminding yourself that people have been, and will always have a tendency to be shitty and off-putting. iâm convinced though that you wouldnât hold ideas like feminism or BLM to the same standard. youâd recognize that some people end up being âbad applesâ, but it wouldnât distort your opinion of the general idea. and i have to agree that veganism especially can draw in some pretty bad apples but with any social motivation and movement, more often than not, vegans are justâŚtired and frustrated. because weâre made constantly conscious of what is happening to both animals and humans, the environment, the health of loved ones, among other things. and weâre so busy with counter-arguing, and sapped with having to defend ourselves that, eventually, we develop a tendency to just be angry with anyone who canât see it for themselves when it seems so obvious and easy for us to. the same way how, as feminists, we are constantly made aware of the injustice that gender inequality brings, and we get angry and loud with people who seem apathetic, and frankly too dense to such simple principles. it takes me effort to remain calm and reserved too, but i recognize iâm talking to a real person, and iâd never lash out like this if i had you right in front of me. it wouldnât help either of us so if i had the chance, iâd love for you to understand our perspective to some extent, while also being better off keeping some distance from the bloggersâ expression of veganism, and consider its core values themselves instead. i believe that to be ultimately healthier on your own sanity
Ah thank you thank you
And while I see where you're getting at, its kinda extremely difficult not to. While I try not to, its incredibly difficult especially as a community oriented individual. Not to mention, when looking for resources it's even more difficult because, after my experience with AV, I now have to be really careful with the community.
And while I understand being tired and frustrated (I fall into multiple minority categories), that does not excuse lashing out and bigotry. I've gotten comments ranging from casual ableism to literally death threats for drinking a glass of MILK. I'm sorry but nothing excuses that. I don't care how tired you are.
And I wouldn't mind continuing this discussion, however I think avoiding problems only makes them worse especially in the case of bigotry that can lead to literal death ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
