roan>>>>>
Can a similar color show up in cats or is that impossible?
would love for someone who understands cat coat genetics to chime in with more info, but from a quick google search all i’m seeing is that a few cats in Finland have popped up with a roan-like coat pattern?
^ like this stunning guy here
They found the mutation that causes the salmiak pattern shown above, it's a deletion downstream of the KIT gene (KIT controls several other, but not all, of the other white cat markings). It's a recessive mutation, Photo c in the figure below shows a normal patterned carrier next to his salmiak patterned brother. The carriers may have some white on their coat, but it's unclear if it is due to the single salmiak allele or another cause.
So yeah, it's possible. I'm not aware of any breeding projects for it though.

Cat a was sequenced, and cats b, c and e were genotyped for salmiak. Photo credits: (a) Ari Kankainen and (b–e) courtesy of the cat owners."

Worth mentioning that the roan/dalmation gene in guinea pigs is lethal when homozygous. Roan and dalmatian are different expressions of the same allele (Rn/rn)
When homozygous, roan is kinda similar to double-merle in dogs, causing micropthalmia (under-eveloped eyes), deafness, and a lack of pigment. It also causes deformities like missing teeth, uneven teeth, and splinter teeth, which means lethal white guinea pigs need to be on a have their teeth regularly clipped by a vet, and some need to be on a liquid diet
With a lot of extra care and attention, 'lethal whites' can live happy lives. Many owners adore their lethal whites and spoil them rotten. But if extra care is beyond you, euthanasia is the kindest option
There are colors that can look similar to roan, such as magpie and sepia/sable, and roan can be hard to spot on guinea pigs with a two-toned base color (especially if they're abyssinian or longhair). This is yet another reason that inexperienced people shouldn't be breeding guinea pigs.
