This sounds like someone threw all the fanfic tropes into a mixing bowl.
Femslash Elders, I have questions!
What was it like, especially around the time when things moved from offline to online? I've spent a lot of time thinking about the social function of fandom, especially for lesbians/wlw. So many couples and babies born from fandom couples... So many people realizing their sexuality and finding community because of tv shows and resonating with the same female characters or (subtextual/potential) couples... but I just wonder what it was like in the nineties and before. How did y'all connect? Was it more hush-hush? Where are the couples with fandom origin stories etcetc?
People who lived in Los Angeles and Vancouver, what was it like to be close to where it was shot? Were there friend groups locally that focused on fandom? Were there set spoilers? How did you know where they were shooting without social media etc? What has changed, and also what's the same? Did you get to meet creatives? Conventions?
Not that I'm not kind of a fandom elder, but I joined later in life, guess I'm just wondering what I missed out on... I want the lore.

Seeing the Bridgerton backlash really drives it home that it was never about canon or wlw fans being delusional.

Swen is still alive because we're still reblogging posts from each other.
Posts that are between six and twelve years old too.
Love you guys.
The delivery of this line is so interesting to me, the way Regina pauses in the middle of the sentence, and the camera cuts away from her:
She doesn't say "when it was just you, me, Robin Hood and Roland", which is how that sentence should flow, if she were saying it normally.
Instead, she said "when it was just you and me [PAUSE] Robin Hood and Roland."
"when it was just you and me" is a complete clause on its own. The pause makes it sound like the end of the sentence, and the camera cutting away adds to that.
If she intended to list off four people, there shouldn't have been an "and" between "you" and "me"
I very much comes across like she added "Robin Hood and Roland" as an afterthought.
It feels very much like it was shoe-horned into the sentence, the way that OQ was shoe-horned into the show. It also takes away from the emotional impact of the sentence, the way that OQ takes away from Regina's character.
Like, Regina feeling happiest when it was just her and Henry makes perfect sense, and is totally in character for her. Implying that she was happier with Robin Hood and Roland in her life than she was when it was just her and Henry contradicts pretty much everything they ever showed us on screen.
When was she so happy with Henry AND Robin Hood and Roland?? Because we didn't see that on screen. We saw her essentially having a short-lived fling with Robin until Marian came back, and then we saw her having a secret affair, knowing that it was doomed to fail... that's the level happiness she doesn't know if she'll ever have again?
It's also interesting that it's "you and me" "Robin Hood and Roland"... two separate groups. Regina is Henry's mom, and she was also dating Robin Hood, but the four of them did not form a family unit.
Like I know I'm reading too much into this, but any time I see this scene, I hear the first part and I'm like "aww" then I get blindsided by "Robin Hood and Roland" being tacked on the end, every single time.
I bet they added that part after .
Her lips work, camera on Henry, still a bit of pause then that part.
For me they added it after, like oopsie we forget someone.
It almost sounds like she's referring to herself and Henry as "Robin Hood & Roland", like it's their secret nicknames.
one thing i’ve learned about myself recently is that i literally don’t recognize romantic interactions. like i’ll be watching a show and someone will go “ohh they’re so flirting rn” but all i see is a friendly little discussion. i’ve gotten in arguments with people bc they go “they’re emotionally cheating on their partner!!” and in my mind they’re just two friends having an emotional chat so what i take this to mean is that when i DO in fact see romantic chemistry on screen, it is REALLY there. like thrown in your face kind of there. which is how i know swan queen was in fact canon. in this essay, i will—

Moment of appreciation because Once Upon a Time has like 4 lesbian couples and not a single gay dude in sight. It’s very refreshing in today’s climate of overdoing gay men and ignoring queer women entirely
(I know swan Queen isn’t canon but whatever it’s real)
(SQ was so real they even included their exes... if you wanna add to the tally.)

If you could add one luxury room from a mansion to your own home, which would you choose?
the indoor heated pool
the greenhouse
the entire room devoted to a single cat / dog
the fully-supplied art studio
the two-story library with rolling ladder
the room-size aquarium
home theater
the formal ballroom
the oversize garage
the game room
I heard of a place with [tag] once, gimme gimme
all of these would make me a worse person
Victorian mansion butler's pantry pls
Butler's pantry is an excellent choice and I will throw in a vote for an undercroft.
In my head, it's getting used as basically a huge conversation pit, there are nests of pillows around the pillars, the fire is lit, there are little occasional tables for drinks and chests of art and crafts supplies, playing cards, books etc for the kinds of things you can just do while sitting in a social pile.
...definitely indoor heated pool.
monikadalmancasting: "Just taking a moment to reflect today.
We are currently casting a beautiful, fun, and genuinely moving LGBTQ story for a brand new vertical platform that I believe is going straight to the top. At the top of all my Eco Casts, I added a simple note:
“This is an LGBTQ project. If you are not comfortable with that, please decline. The safety and comfort of our cast and crew are important to us.”
For the lead role alone, we received sixty-one declines.
About seventy-five percent of those actors took the time to message and say they personally had no issue with LGBTQ stories, but that family members, cultural expectations, or religious pressures within their communities would make it dangerous or deeply problematic for them to accept the role so they would need to decline to audition.
I fully understand and respect this. No one should ever take on work that puts them in conflict with their family or in harm’s way within their community.
But it is a sobering reminder that even though many of us live and work inside a Vancouver bubble, the world is still not easy for LGBTQ people. Not even close.
And because of that, continuing to champion and create these stories matters more than ever. The responses alone show that these stories are needed, and that visibility still has real weight."
---
Came across this post and I thought it was pretty sobering, but also affirming to have some insight in the process of the challenges of getting representation on television. To not feel crazy for noticing there's still a lot of work and many hurdles that don't come into play for other stories. That is a lot of interested actors who didn't read for a role and could've been perfect.
