here is your daily reminder to COMMENT ON THE AO3 FICS YOU READ! it goes such a long way, especially if itâs a multi-chapter work and you can only leave kudos once. ANYTHING is an acceptable commentâemojis, keyboard smash, screaming, in-depth analysis! i promise you, the writers want it ALL
Something I noticed for probably a few years is how much harder it is to find a longer fanfic with chapters. It's one shots everywhere I look, so have people just lost interest in chapter fanfics?
We finally got her name!!!! Her name is very beautiful and fitting in my opinion, all around loving her so far. All we need now is a true understanding of how she'll fit within the Batfamily and how they'll interact with her. I feel like she was inspired from Barbara in Batman & Robin from 1997 just from her relationship with Alfred (It was uncle from Batman & Robin, now great-uncle) to the same hair and eye color.
My hope for this character stays the same (not a love interest to any Batfam character and a permanent member), but I also hope they don't try to follow Barbara from Batman & Robin and make her another Batgirl.

Jason plays with his tie for what feels like the hundredth time. His reflection looks like the picture of calm, but inside heâs a jumble of nerves.
âShe can still run away.â
Jason glares at Damian from over his shoulder. âDonât you have some sword to play with?â
âI am attempting to prepare you for all possible outcomes.â
Before Jason can snap something back, Dick steps inâare his eyes red again? âYou're getting married. You're allowed to freak out a little.â
âIâm not.â He deadpans.
Tim has his hands shoved into his pockets. âI've checked everything three times. Nothing's on fire.â
âRight.â
Roy grins. âYouâre totally nervous.â
Jason huffs. âYou four are the worst groomsmen ever to exist.â
A chorus of protests ensues. While they bicker amongst each other, Jason goes quiet. It still feels surreal to him that, in less than an hour, youâll become Mrs. Todd. He has more contingency plans than what's deemed sane for today, and yet Jason canât help feeling nervous because what if? What if somebody barges in? Or thereâs a breakout at Arkham? Or whatever else might happen that will ruin today.
Heâs spent most of his life waiting for the other shoe to drop. Now that heâs so close to a future with youâhe doesnât want to lose it like all of the other good things heâs ever had.
âWhereâs Biz anyway?â
Everyone pauses for a moment, then Roy says, âI think he said he wasnât going to eat.â
Jason curses.
He knows itâs stupid; thereâs less than half an hour left before you two pronounce your vows and get legally married. But. He needed to see you. The sky is blue and the grass is green; itâs another universal truth that your sole presence calms Jason.
He knocks on the door of the room youâre in. Hands in his pockets, still as a rock.
Steph pokes out her head. âYou canât see the bride just yet. So, shoo!â She motions with her hand for him to leave.
âI need to talk with her.â
Stephâs eyes soften and she lets out an over-exaggerated sigh. âYou are literally the most dramatic groom I've ever met.â
She then shuts the door in Jasonâs face. Wow, rude.
Thereâs chattering inside, a few noises of protest, but slowly all of the bridesmaids trickle out. Before Jason can step in, you take hold of the door.
âYou canât see me yet, itâs a surprise.â
He slumps against the door. âMhm. I just wanted to hear your voice.â
Thereâs a beat of silence, and then you sound closerâyou must be in the same position heâs in. âHey, Jay?â
âYes, princess?â
âDo you⊠do you feel slightly nervous?â Before he can answer, you continue. âItâs not like a bad nervous, itâs like a⊠rollercoaster. Yeah, thatâs it!â
âYouâre comparing our marriage to a rollercoaster?â
You laugh. âItâs those same nerves, exciting but you still have a funny feeling in your stomach.â
âYeah, I know what you mean.â He pauses. âI had to get out of there. Itâs justâI want today to be perfect. You deserve nothing less.â
âYou bastard.â Thereâs a sniffle on the other side. âYou canât ruin my makeup before the pictures are taken.â
Jason widens his eyes in panic, almost getting up and barging in. He cannot handle it when you cry. âWhatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â
âBecause I love you so much.â
His shoulders slump; what a relief. âI love you too.â
âI donât need today to be perfect, just by being with you it already is.â
Jason grins, head tilted against the wall. âYouâre not getting rid of me now.â
Itâs only Jason and the wedding officiant in the room. Itâs a beautiful room, with a massive marble fireplace, wooden floors, details on the walls and columns. Thereâs a large window at the back that shows the sprawling gardens of the estate. To the side, a mahogany desk with all of the paperwork and pens for everyone to sign.
The light trickles in and hits Jason on the face, but he doesnât blink once, completely absorbed by the still-closed door.
Then it does, with a light click. Jasonâs world tilts.
Jason is not a religious man, but he knows an angel when he sees one. You look absolutely stunning; he swears his heart stops.
He picks at the collar of his suit. âYeahâ thatâs not fair.â
You laugh and walk over to him at the window. Your fingers gently readjust his collar. âYou look stunning, Mr. Todd.â
He canât help the expression of pure adoration that is written all over his face.
âShall we begin?â the officiant says.
You nod and release Jasonâs collar. To be honest, Jason doesnât hear a single word of what the officiant is sayingâhe's too busy looking at you.
âI do,â he manages to say.
And then, âI do.â
âYouâre now husband and wife.â The man smiles at the two of you. âNow for the personal vows.â
Jason slips a crumpled piece of paper out of his pocket. Itâs been touched and folded far too many times. He actually doesnât need it; he knows the speech by heart, but still.
âI never thought I'd be standing here.â He looks at the floor for a second before locking eyes with yours. âNot because I didn't believe in love or anything. I just never thought I'd be lucky enough to keep it. I've spent most of my life fighting; fighting to survive, fighting to be understood, fighting against the parts of myself I wish I could leave behind. Then you came along, and for the first time, being with someone didn't feel like another battle.â
Small tears are already blossoming in your eyes, a lonely tear or two falling down the slope of your cheek, and youâre fighting a smile.
âYou saw me at my worst and stayed. You saw the anger, the scars, the mistakes, the things that keep me awake at nightâand somehow, you loved me anyway. I don't know if I'll ever deserve that. What I do know is that every morning I wake up beside you, I'll spend the rest of my life trying. I promise to be honest with you, even when it's difficult. I promise to trust you with the pieces of myself I've always kept hidden. I promise to stand beside you when life is easy and when it isn't. I promise that no matter what happens, you'll never face it alone.
âI can't promise perfection. You know better than anyone that I'm far from perfect.â
Jason is not even hesitant; he delivers his words like gospelâa mix of unwavering security and blind faith.
âBut I can promise this: you will always have my heart, my loyalty, and a home with me. And if the world ever comes for you, it'll have to go through me first. I love you. Today, tomorrow, and every day I have left. And I choose you. Every single time.â
Tears are freely falling from your eyes, and heâs quick to wipe them away. You let out a small laugh and start yours.
âJason,â you let out a small laugh and shoot him a pointed stare. âYou canât laugh.â
Jasonâs eyes are absolutely soft. His entire body is relaxed, and youâre sure he doesnât realize heâs inching closer. âWouldnât dare to.â You take a breath. âPeople see your strength first. They see the confidence, the stubbornness, the way you walk into every room like you're ready to challenge the world. But that's not the man I fell in love with. I fell in love with the man who cares so deeply it hurts.â You smile, getting emotional again. âI mean, remember when we met?â
Jason smiles.
âI fell for the man who would give everything he has for the people he loves. The man who pretends he doesn't need anyone, but reaches for my hand when he thinks no one is looking. You have the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known. And it is the greatest privilege of my life to be trusted with it. I promise to love every version of you: the fearless one, the angry one, the gentle one, the kind one. And the one who is still learning that he doesn't have to carry everything by himself. I promise to remind you that you are worthy of love on the days you forget. I promise to laugh with you, argue with you, grow with you, and stand beside you through every chapter of our lives. I promise to be your peace when the world becomes too loud.
âYour partner when the road gets hard. And your home, wherever we are. You once told me that trust doesn't come easily to you. So thank you for trusting me. I choose you too, in the good and bad days, no matter what happens because, Jason, I love you. With my whole soul.â
Jason says nothing for a second, a thousand thoughts and feelings crossing his face. You instinctively brush one of his hairs away from his forehead; he closes his eyes briefly. Moves closer, his hands gravitating to your waist to kiss youâ
The officiant coughs, and even he looks moved, but he snaps out of it and redirects the two of you to the table. âWe need the two witnesses now.â
Roy and Dick are there in less than a second, eagerly picking up the pens and signing. You and Jason do tooâyou even share the same blue ballpoint.
The officiant reads over the document, making sure nothing is amiss. âPerfect. Youâre now legally husband and wife.â He smiles. âCongratulations to both of you.â
Jason captures your mouth. The kiss is both sweet and hungry, and by the time you two remember that you canât kiss for eternity, he smiles, forehead pressed to yours. âI love you, Mrs. Todd.â
You kiss him again. âI love you too, Mr. Todd.â
The wedding is perfect. Or rather, itâs perfect because Jason is there enjoying it by your side.
Thereâs dancing and drinking, laughter and cheering, and the constant congratulations! The muscles of your face hurt from how much youâre smiling, but you wonât stop.
Time moves far too quickly, and youâre caught in a dream you donât want to wake up from. You see the world through a sparkling filter; everything is bright and good, and what could ever go wrong if you and Jason are together? Then comes Bruceâs speech.
He stands up, perfectly poised and straight. Beside him, Selina is looking up at him with a look of pure love. She squeezes his arm, and he gives her a small private smile.
âIâm not fond of speeches. Most of you know that. Yet somehow my children keep finding reasons to put me in situations where public speaking is expected. Tonight is no exception.â
Thereâs a small ripple of laughter.
âWhen Jason was young, there was never a quiet moment. He was curious about everything, stubborn about everything, and absolutely convinced he knew better than everyone around him. Some things never change.â
Some more laughter, and you lean against your husbandâs armâyouâll never get sick of saying that. He presses a kiss to your hair, eyes slowly moving from you to Bruce.
âWhat has changed is the man he's become.â Jason suddenly finds the tablecloth really interesting. âPeople see Jason's strength first. His determination. His ability to keep moving forward no matter what stands in his way. What I've always admired most is his heart. Jason cares deeply. Sometimes more deeply than is good for him. He loves fiercely. He protects fiercely. And when someone earns a place in his life, he never stops fighting for them. That has always been true.
âToday, I watched him look at the woman he loves, and I realized something. For a very long time, Jason spent his life surviving. Now he's building one with this lovely woman by his side.â
He looks at the two of you, smiling at you firstâ itâs not wide, but itâs honestâ then settling on Jason.
âAnd there is nothing I could be more proud of. To my new daughterâthank you. For standing beside him and seeing the good in him that has always been there. And to Jasonâthere is very little left for me to teach you. But if I can offer one piece of advice, it's this: the people we love are not burdens we carry. They are gifts. Cherish this one every day.â
He raises his flute of champagne, and the rest of the guests follow.
âCongratulations. I love you. And I'm proud of you. To the happy couple.â
Dick starts crying immediately, Roy pretends he isn't emotional while actively crying into his drink, and Damian acts disgusted by the display while secretly recording it.
Those are just a few of the reactions Jason catches before raising his glass to Bruce and then slowly drinking. Things are not perfect between themâthey may or may not ever beâbut this, this is progress.
The cake comes next; exactly like the one on your Pinterest board, made from a mix of yours and Jasonâs favorite flavors. You cut it together, but the moment the knife is away, you sink your fingers into it and smash it all over his face.
Everything stops for a second, and then Jason is laughing. Bright and loud, before he takes another piece and does the same thing to you, aiming for your mouth instead (he doesnât want to ruin your makeup).
The world fades away when you and Jason have your first dance together. Your head is pressed to his chest. Looking up, you find heâs already looking at you before making you spin. You giggle and pull him down for another kiss (Damian pretends to be disgusted in the crowd).
The dancers come onto the floor; Roy and Lian, Kory and Dick, Damian and you (though he claims he does not dance but does so anyway), Bruce and Selina, Artemis and Jason at some pointâŠ
Jason and you end up exhausted, tipsy, and drunk on your love for each other. Buzzing with excitement for the honeymoon.

I have a few one shots in the work for the Young Dad!Jason Todd x Young Mom!Reader, but due to when it takes place, Alfred is no longer around and the new butler is here. We don't know the name of her or how she'll act yet, and I just can't wait to read more about her so I can write her in fanfics.
My only hope is she doesn't end up being a love interest and is a permanent member of the batfamily.
This is part of the Young Dad!Jason Todd x Young Mom!Reader series.
--
Lately, Jason has been trying to get Maxwell to pull himself up into a stand. So far, Max seems pretty resistant to learning these skills and prefers for one of you to carry him everywhere. Whenever Jason tries to pull him up to help, he would just go limp.
"Come on, bud," Jason grumbles, "You need to learn how to stand." He gently tries to pull Max up by the hands, but his son's body is like a wet noodle. No matter how many attempts, nothing was getting done. Jason groans and throws his head back in frustration, "Maxwell James, you are not skipping this milestone; you will learn to stand sooner or later."
Lying close by, their pitbull-bullmastiff mix, Dog, watches the scene with curious eyes. Her body is tense and at the ready to step in whenever.
Maxwell leans his head forward and nips Jason's forearm. He made sure to keep eye contact the whole time to show it was intentional.
Jason quietly hisses through his teeth while picking Max up. "Yep, you're stubborn like your mom," He looks over his shoulder for any sign of you before whispering, "Don't tell her I said that, she'll stubbornly argue that she isn't."
Finally free from being forced to try standing up, Max regains the ability to move his limbs again and snuggles closer to his papa's chest.
"One more thing," Jason pokes Max's side to make him giggle, "No biting." He leaves the living room and heads to the bedroom, with Dog following behind.
That didn't go as planned. Max is willing to do pretty much anything to avoid learning. Not all hope is lost; just last week, Jason bought a baby bouncer for his son. Maybe Max will have so much fun on it that he will want to learn how to walk!
Jason sets Max in his baby bouncer with a smile on his face, "Do you like it? It has everything it needs to keep you entertained." He grabs the monkey hanging on a string, "Hi there, little Max!" He speaks in a high voice for the monkey.
Maxwell giggles and babbles at the monkey. The two go back and forth in their conversation while Max is kicking his legs in delight. Jason notices this and tries to convince him to learn.
"You know, if you learn how to stand, you will be able to do so many fun things like dancing!" He shakes the monkey around to show it dancing, "See how fun dancing is, Max?"
Max bounces around in his seat like he is dancing as well with the monkey. He giggles and babbles without a single care in the world.
The two continue to dance together for a little while longer before Jason takes him out of the baby bouncer and carefully places him on his feet. Just like before, Max's legs stay limp, besides the occasional little kicks.
"Bud... Why don't you want to stand on your own?" Jason quietly asks as he places him back into the baby bouncer.
He doesn't pay his papa any mind and just keeps bouncing.
That attempt didn't go so well, but Jason won't give up that easily. He just has to come up with another strategy. It's back to the parenting books!
And after reading a few parenting books, he's ready to give it another shot!
Maxwell sits back on his feet with one of his toys in his hands, yet his attention is fully on an episode of Bluey playing on the TV in the living room. The episode playing was "Baby Race," something Jason put on to put the thought of wanting to walk in Max's head.
Jason steps into the living room, Dog following, then sits down next to Max and picks up a toy. "You see what Bluey is doing on screen? Do you want to start walking too?" He drags Max into his lap, "You have to learn how to stand first." He murmurs against the top of his head.
Dog lies down and places her head on Jason's lap. She takes in a deep breath, then lets it all out like she had a long day.
It doesn't seem like Maxwell heard him because he doesn't react to his dad. Instead, he leans back against his chest and grabs Dog's ear.
He lets out a quiet sigh, then gently loosens Max's grip on her ear. Jason looks up at the screen; he understands how Chili feels in this episode. It feels like he's competing with every dad that ever existed, because if all of them can get their child standing already, then he's falling behind.
Jason carefully picks Max up from under his arms and stands him up, hoping he will start working to stand up by himself, but his little legs stay limp as he still watches the screen. "Still not willing to learn how to stand..." He sets him back in his lap and continues watching Bluey together.
Okay, so Jason hasn't had the best of luck so far with teaching Maxwell to stand. Every day now, he hasn't made any progress with Max, and it's starting to worry him.
What if Max never learns how to walk?
Does that reflect on what kind of father he is?
Has he failed at being a dad by not teaching Max how to walk!?
"Jase?" You call out to him and place your hand on his chest.
Jason snaps out of his thoughts, then looks down at you lying on him, "Is something wrong, darling?" He sits up on his elbows.
The two of you are lying on the couch watching a movie after putting Max to bed when you feel his body tensing up underneath you. You sit up on his lap, "Nothing's wrong with me, but what's on your mind?" You gently grasp his face between your hands.
He quietly stares up at you for a while, like he's afraid to break the silence, then he covers your hands with his. "Am I..." Jason bites his lower lip and looks away in embarrassment, "...Am I doing a good job at being a dad?"
"Oh, Jason," You lean in and kiss the bridge of his nose. "You're doing an amazing job. Max couldn't have asked for a better dad."
Jason softly chuckles under his breath. "Max can only babble right now." He meets your gaze with his own.
You softly smile at him. "He still couldn't ask for anyone better." Your thumb rubs gentle circles underneath his eyes, "You're doing the best you can, and you have to remember it's not a race for him to reach every milestone."
"But-!" He tries to speak, but you cut him off.
"No buts, Todd. This is a team effort." You cross your arms over your chest, "It's our job as parents to give the tools to Max so he can use them to succeed on his own. There's no need to rush it; he'll start standing when he's ready to learn." You lie your head against his chest again, "For now, just be patient."
Jason tries to think of an argument, but nothing comes to mind. Instead, he lets out a small sigh and wraps his arms around you. "You're right..." He closes his eyes, "He'll stand when he's ready."
Another couple of days go by without any sign of Max trying to stand on his own. Jason eventually started thinking that Max would just ride Dog like a horse before even thinking about standing on his own feet.
For now, Jason just cooks dinner for the family...
Jason stands in front of the stove, making mashed potatoes. He can hear Maxwell and Dog gently playing together behind him. Every once in a while, he glances back over his shoulder to make sure the two are playing nice and no one gets hurt.
Maxwell looks over toward his papa and starts crawling over with Dog walking next to him. He wants him to play with them, too. He stops just shy of a few feet away and sits back on his feet, then looks between Jason and Dog. Max grabs Dog and tries to pull himself up. He fails a few times and whines, but doesn't give up.
Hearing him cry, Jason whips his head around and witnesses Max successfully pulling himself up to stand with Dog's help. He lets out a surprised laugh and sets down the cooking utensils before moving closer to grab Max's hands, "Look at that! You're standing up on your own." He kneels to be at Max's height. "I'm so proud of you, Angel."
A big smile spreads across Max's face, and his natural blue-and-green eyes stare up at his papa's unnatural blue-and-green ones. He tries taking a step forward but ends up tripping into Jason's chest.
"That's okay, we have plenty of time to learn walking." Jason stands up with Max in his arms, "For now, just practice pulling yourself up into a stand."
You come out from around the corner with your phone out. Earlier, you noticed Max crawling towards Jason and decided to start recording for memories; you did not know you would end up recording one of the best memories of your life.
When scrolling through fanfics where the character is a parent, why is it almost always a daughter? Don't get me wrong, I do love those fanfics and they are written really well, but where is the love for the sons? I've only seen a few handful of fanfics with a son, so I know people do write for sons.
Is the reason because most people who write/read fanfics are female so they'll know how little girls would act? Like, I want to know why people prefer to write for daughters over sons.
Please answer, I would love to hear answers. đđđđ
aka jason wildly preferring you over everyone else
4 in 1 blurbs
warnings: standard batfam arguing etc.
You sit curled up embarrassingly close to Jason on the couch, head on his shoulder. The team is still in their gear as they filter into the living room, masks and helmets discarded in scattered locations between here and the cave. The mission had been fairly simple and with all of them together it only took a couple hours to finish up.
As you waited, Alfred had kept your mind busy in the kitchen while he taught you how he makes his famous ice cream from scratch.
The clamor of the heroic partyâs return had made itself known sooner than later, and you think your face must have displayed your emotions nicely because Alfred nodded you away with a small smile and no second thought.
Youâd walked into the living room, weaving through the mess of siblings until a hand snuck out on your left and grabbed your wrist. You barely had time to look at him before Jason pulled you down to sit next him on the sofa. He wrapped an arm over your shoulder, pulling you in and leaving virtually no space between you. His armor sits heavy against you, but a welcome weight on your shoulders.
Tim plops down on the couch across from you and you can just make out a bit of blood on the side of his head, aptly accompanied by an irritated look sprawled across his face. Itâs not enough blood to be concerned aboutânot for themâbut you can venture a guess that whatever they were up to shouldnât have called for any injuries and his pique is likely directly related to that.
Though Dickâs goading aura might have something to do with it too, as he comes crashing down next to him a second later, partially sitting on Timâs cape and pulling him into an awkward angle.Â
Nightwing doesnât seem too perturbed by the younger vigilanteâs agitation and curt manner of pushing him off.
The others are too caught up in chatter to pay much attention to you, and you can be certain thatâs why Jason takes that moment to press a kiss to the side of your head. He lets his lips linger there for just a second as you lean into him.
Alfredâs own entrance is the only thing able to subside the flurry of conversations skirting around the room.
âA job well done,â he commends with a nod. âA selection of ice creams awaits you in the kitchen.â
He gives you a sly wink before retreating back through the swinging door, leaving Stephanie and Cass to practically trip over themselves trying to beat each other to the kitchen. Robin follows after unhurried, mask still on, with his hands behind his back.
Jason kneads your thigh before pushing himself up to stand. He turns back, looking down to you. âWhat do you want?â he asks softly.
You hum, "Just strawberry's good."
Tim sits up, "Can Iââ
"No, you've got legs,â Jason grumbles, stalking off to the kitchen.
Dick barks out a laugh and you bite back a smile.
Tim looks absolutely aghast.Â
âThatâs such bullshit. You know, he used to be nice.â
âNo he didnât,â Dick laughs, shaking his head. âNot since youâve known him.â
Stephanie stumbles out of the kitchen then, the door hitting her back on the way, as she mutters a curse behind her. You can vaguely makeout Jason grunting something back before she rolls her eyes.
Steph looks at you, shaking her head as she returns to her seat, âYou live like this?â
You shrug, âHeâs nice to me.â
âYeah, I bet,â Tim grumbles.
Jason returns after Cass a minute later with a bowl of strawberry ice cream and two spoons. He expertly ignores Timâs unwavering glare as he resituates himself beside you.
He scoops your legs up over his lap and positions the bowl in between you, wrapping the sleeve of his jacket around it so that the cold porcelain doesnât make contact with your skin.
The others have set themselves up so that the four of them are stuffed up against each other on the sofa adjacent to you, very obviously examining you both.Â
And while youâre willing to acknowledge the amused stares and singular glare, Jason only sighs heavily, rolling his eyes as he glares at the coffee table.
Only a few seconds of this are allowed to go by before he pulls over a throw pillow and sets it over your knees, so that it rests atop your heads like a mini-fort, successfully blocking out his siblings' view of the two of you.
You smile and press a light kiss to his shoulder as he simmers.
Regrettably, you miss the way Damian side-eyes the pillow above you as he re-enters the room, perching himself atop the back of the couch behind the others.
âThis is so nice,â Dick preens. âHe used to just leave the room when too many of us gathered in one place. Now he has to stay.â
Stephanie watches the makeshift fort with wary eyes, scooping ice cream into her mouth. âYeahâŠI donât wanna freak you guys out but, uhâŠâ
Itâs quiet for a moment and you guess Cass is speaking.Â
Youâre proven right when Stephanie starts up again, âMy thoughts exactly.â Her voice drops into a raspy whisper that isnât really meant to go unheard, âI donât know who the hell that is, but it is not Jason.âÂ
âThis is unprecedented,â Damian mumbles, dipping into his own chocolate cup.
âDo they always talk about you like youâre not here?â you ask Jason quietly.Â
âYes,â he grumbles with a scornful look directed at the bowl.
A low hiss can be heard immediately after, âIâve never heard him whisper before, what the fuck?â
You canât hide your laugh as well as you mean to, but you know Jasonâs light swat to your thigh is nothing more than a rib.
Mumbles continue along the other couch, mostly going unacknowledged, until Tim busts out, âHe doesnât even like strawberry!â
Jason snaps the pillow out of the way, âThe fuck do you know about what I like?â
Tim resets his posture with one hell of an attitude, snarking, âWell I can name one thing you really seem to fuckingââ
Jason grabs the pillow harshly and chucks it at Tims head which connects with a loud thwack.
Damian swats it away before it can knock him off balance, though his scowl is only half worth what Timâs is.Â
âYouâre unbelievable,â he says with a sneer. âThis is why you donât get invited to movie night anymore.â
Jason doubles back at him, âSorry, is this not your own fucking house?â
Tim huffs, âYes, which iââ
âThen get your own goddamn ice cream!â
Tim huffs as he stands, sending Jason a pointed look. âIâm going because I want to.â
Jason barely gives him a sardonic nod as he stomps off.
âGet me some too!â Dick calls back, only for the back of his head to be met with a sideways grimace from Tim.
As he leaves, the focus of the room seems to shift towards Damian dripping chocolate onto his cape and it fades away from there.
You turn to Jason, lowering your voice to just below a whisper, âIf you donât like strawberryââ
âI like it,â he tells you, leaving no room to argue as he takes a bite.

âI swear to God, he better be dead,â Stephanie mutters to herself.
She shuts her phone off and tosses it into the passenger seat with a huff. Her fingers drum against the steering wheel as she scans the sidewalk across from her car.
The night before the majority of the team had been involved in a less-than-successful plan, which some have called âa display of complete idiocy and inability to circumspect.â
Then Tim had to go and make a joke about that word choice in what was apparently a bad moment. This gave way to a harsher punishment of the team being forced to clean the batcave foot by square footânotably, an impossible task.
So naturally, they had to retaliate.
The plan was to dismantle the batmobile piece by piece and leave it a collection of parts for Bruce to find. Problem being, the group as it stood didnât possess the capability to do so without doing a great deal of damage to the parts. Damage, that the family was not willing to face extra retribution for.
Fortunately, they knew just the man for the job.Â
Unfortunately, said man has devoted his life to ignoring their messages, favoring to live peacefully and distantly from them. And because that peace and distance does come with an add-on of borderline complete secrecy from his family, no one had any idea where to look for him.
So, Stephanie decided to do the next most rational thing and track down your location. Sheâd hoped he would be with you like he always is, but for seemingly the first time in the last yearâheâs nowhere to be found.
Now, was revenge for a minor-slight by Bruce so important that it required Stephanie to take all of these steps to get a hold of Jason? No, absolutely not. Sheâs pretty sure that the others have already given up on it by now and started cleaning. But itâs about the principal. And also, she does not want to clean the floors of a cave.
She jumps up in her seat when she spots you exiting a store, scurrying to unbuckle and pry the car door open.
Sheâs across the street in half a second, running directly into your line of sight. It actually wouldâve been very difficult for her to miss your line of sight, considering sheâd landed only a good six inches in front of your face. âHey!â  Â
âOh, fuckââ you jump, grabbing your chest. You take a breath when you realize who it is, less surprised now by the theatrics of the introduction. âHey Steph.â
âHey,â she smiles casually, like she didnât do what she just did. âSo Jasonâs been ignoring us and I need to get a hold of him,â she tells you.
You nod, still collecting yourself. âOh. I donât know where he isââ
She shakes her head, âThatâs fine. Can I use your phone to call him?â
You frown, âIs something wrong?â
âWith him, yeah,â she snarks. âI called him, Tim called him, Dick called him, Cass called him, Damian called him, we used Bruceâs phone to call himâthat was a bit of a long shot, but still. This is our last option. Well, not our last option, if this doesnât work I could get really invasive, butââ She shakes the thought from her head, âNevermind.â
You nod blankly, taking in the mountain of information sheâd just handed you. âHowâd you know I was here?â
She scans your eyes back and forth for a second before her own widen in realization and sheâs shaking her head. âNo, no, donât worry weâre not tracking you! I just hacked into the traffic cameras to find you.â
âOh!â you exclaim, nodding some more. âOkay.â
You hand her your phone without any further questionsâfor your own sakeâand she happily accepts.Â
âYou know I texted him 115 times?â she tells you as she scrolls through your contacts.
You furrow your eyebrows, watching her click his name and press the phone to her ear. âDid you count?â
âWell, I had the time, diâyou son of a bitch! One ring?â Stephanie scorns into the phone.
You can hear Jason groan on the other end of the line.Â
He says something to Stephanie that she follows up with a firm shake of her head.
âNo,â she says defiantly. âShe let me use it.â
Stephanie rolls her eyes, not pleased with his response. âWhat if it was an emergency?â
She listens for a second, skeptical look on her face.
She gasps suddenly, âI am not overstepping, we thought you were dead!â
Over the course of about ten seconds the shock on her face drops into just-been-caught guilt. âWell, I mean we considered it.â
You imagine Jasonâs telling her to give you your phone back as she stands her ground, pushing, âIf you promise to text me back.â
A short response on his end.
âPromise to text me back!â
Thereâs a brief lull before sheâs giving a self-satisfied nod and jostling your phone back into your hands. âHere ya go. Thanks, babe!â She smiles wide at you before jogging back across the street, not waiting for the cars.
You smile as you watch her go, putting the phone up to your ear, âHey Jay.â
You can hear the relief on the other end of the line. âHey sweetheart. You know if you see Steph in public, you can just walk away?â
âIâm not going to walk away from your family.â You look again across the street, âAlso I donât think that was an option for me this time.â
Tim eyes the way Salem traipses around his feet, yellow eyes staring up at him. âWhyâs it even here?â
Jason rolls his eyes, continuing to scroll on his phone. âHeâs hers. Deal with it.â
Tim scrunches up his mouth. âShe knows I hate it. And she, unlike you, wouldnât subject me to this just for the hell of it. So again I ask: why is it here?â
Jason huffs, looking up from his phone. âWhat do you want me to say? He wants to be.â
Tim scoffs at that, ââIt wants to beâ? Youâre the one who put it in the car.â
âNo, I didnât,â Jason says factually.
Tim looks at him sideways as Salem leaps onto Jasonâs lap and nudges his hand up. Jason follows along as requested, petting the top of Salemâs head with an open palm.Â
Tim squirms to the other side of the couch with a look of disgust on his face. Salem watches him the whole time. Â
A smile adorns Cassâ face as she signs, âShe says he can read peopleâs energy.â
Tim huffs, resting his head against his fist. âWhat does that even mean?â
The conversation is cut off by the clatter of you and Dick stumbling into the room, carrying a freshly painted headboard. Blue paint coats both of your hands and has no doubt stained your clothes.
Youâre clearly struggling a bit to keep your grip on your end, the weight of the wooden frame dragging your arms down.
Jason stands and Salem flows along with his movements easily, leaping down onto the hardwood. He comes over and helps you lift your end of the frame with a stupid amount of ease, to the point that youâre not even holding any of the weight up anymore. The three of youâless so youâmove the headboard and lean it up against the wall. After it's set down Jason steps back and looks over it gingerly.
âIt looks good,â he murmurs to you, quiet enough to not give his brother the satisfaction of his approval.
Dick had asked you over to help him paint Damianâs bed frame as a surprise for him for not getting in any âaltercationsâ at school this semester. Youâd decided on coating it with his favorite color first and then fill it in with a collection of what Dick has âon good authorityâ are his favorite animals. Itâs a fairly random assortment that youâre not sure adds to or disproves Dickâs credibility. Youâd spent the better half of the afternoon googling animals youâd never heard of just to make sure you projected their likenesses accurately. Dick had been very clear that you had to be precise on the details because Damian would know if he was really looking at a komodo dragon painting or if it was âsome common lizard.â
You sigh, âI hope he likes it. Iâm worried we did it too childish for him.â
âHe is a child,â Jason says plainly.
âBut he is not childish,â you counter. And he sure isnât. Youâd had a hard enough time convincing Damian to watch cartoons, adding a colorful animal mural to his bedroom might be one step too far. Youâre still trying to figure him out.
âHeâll like it,â he says firmly.
You smile, slipping around under his arm and tucking yourself into his side.
Not a moment later, Dick slings an arm around Jason's shoulder, grinning as he pulls his brother in close.
Jasonâs immediately louring. "No, get away from me."
Dick, unfazed and still smiling, removes his arm and takes a big step to the right. You do the same, figuring he needs his space, but you get caught by the wrist before you can do more than sway to the side.Â
âNot you.âÂ
He pulls you back under his arm, wrapping it around the front of your shoulders. You hook your fingers around his forearm, letting your hand hang.
You hear a double-clap from the other side of the room that has you both turning around to face Cass.Â
She signs something to Jason with a fond smile on her face.Â
You look back and forth between them as Jason waves her off. âWhat?â
He shakes his head, âItâs nothing. She saidâshe said weâre cute.â
You smile up at him and he deflectsânot so subtlyâand starts nudging you back towards where the group is gathered, now all standing.Â
Dickâs quick to start bragging off to the room about how great of a job the two of you did and how really complex and daunting it actually is painting animals for a child.
As he talks, your eyes find Jason, whoâs definitely about to roll his eyes any second now. A bit subconsciously, your hand comes up to brush Jasonâs white streak of hair back, away from tickling his forehead.Â
On the other side of Jason, Tim does the same, sweeping Jasonâs hair back in a much more mocking manner.Â
This gives way to Jason smacking his hand away, harder than he needed to.
"WhaâYou let her do it!" Tim protests, overplaying how much the slap hurt.
Jason scowls, "She can do whatever she wants."
Tim drops his shoulders, looking at Jason as if heâd been scandalized. âOh but I canât?â
âNot if it involves touching me,â Jason grumbles.
Tim steps closer, putting a finger to Jasonâs chest. âYouâre such aââ
From the floor, Salem hisses up at Tim, successfully startling the teenager. âAuahhââ
He stumbles backwards, grimacing at the cat.Â
âFucking demon,â he hisses, walking away.
When Timâs far enough away and Salemâs seemingly satisfied, he brushes up against your leg, purring.Â
You peer down at him with a furrowed brow.Â
âWhatâs Salem doing here?â
âIâm not doing this shit with you.â
âNo, come on, 9 out of 10 times is what you said. How âbout just once? Beat me one time at anything, Jaybird.â
âAnything?â Jason asks like he knows damn well Dick canât swear on that word.
Rightly so, Dick backtracks. âSomething agreed upon.â
Jason throws his hands up, partially in exasperation, partially relenting.
Dick smoothly turns his back to him, announcing, âOpening up the room for ideas.â
Damianâs eye roll is almost audible from the corner armchair, where his attention is unmoved from intently sharpening a blade heâd recently come into possession of.
Bruce similarly remains unbothered in his seat, trying to read despite the distractions.Â
âOoh, okay. Okay.â Stephanie wiggles up a little on the couch. âYou could race!â
Dick shakes his head negatively, âI literally just busted my knee up two days ago, Steph.â
âConvenient,â Jason mumbles.
âYou were there!â Dick exclaims with an open mouth.
Steph continues, âUmâŠâ
Cass waves to the room from her position upside down on the couch, head hanging down next to Stephanieâs legs. Attention successfully acquired, she signs, âStaring contest.â
Jason grimaces, âThat sounds like a nightmare.â
Dick gives him a faux-smile.
âYou should play chicken,â Damian chimes in, holding up his knife.
âNo,â Bruce drones monotonously as he flips a page.Â
âTic tac toe?â Steph suggests.
Cass is already shaking her head as she scrunches up her mouth in thought. Â
Jason rolls his eyes, âWhat are we, five?â
Dick nods, cracking his knuckles as he thinks. âNo, we need something that really proves our worth.â
Bruce looks up from his book, staring numbly through his brow, but remains silent.
âYou could arm wrestle,â Steph suggests.
The elder brother twitches at that, âUh, no.â
Cass moves past that before a joke has the chance to be made. âHandstand contest?â she suggests.
Jason shrugs, âYeah, sure.â
The elder brother looks at him incredulously. âYouâll do a handstand contest with me?â
âThatâs what I just said.â
Dick scoffs, âJaybird, Iâm an acrobat, youâre just some guy.â
Jason, not giving him the courtesy of eye contact, pulls his sweatshirt off from his back. âWell, youâre a lot of things, arenât you?â
Dick throws his head back with a squint.
Jason fishes his phone out of his pocket and Dick follows suit, offended stare maintaining all the while.Â
No exchange is required as they both toss their phones across the room, landing together with a rough clatter on Damianâs lap. Damianâs resulting glare is borderline disgusted.
Dick starts them off, âAlright, go. OneâŠtwoâŠâ
Both men push up onto their hands, muscles flexing as they find their balance. Dickâs form is better, of course, but Jason looks to have a stronger foundation.  Â
They both hold strong as several minutes go by with the brothers only maintaining the attention of some of the room, and the interest of none of it.
Stephanie huffs and tilts her head, thoroughly unentertained with the consistency theyâre both managing.Â
âStarting to wish theyâd picked something that moved along a little faster,â she murmurs to Cass.
Dick glances over at the younger brother, clearly displeased with his lack of trouble keeping up with him. He shuffles closer one hand at a time, using the decreased distance to poke at Jason with his foot, trying to knock him over.
Jason kicks him back harder, âHey! Donât be a dickââ
âVery funny,â Dick leers.
They both end up finding a struggle to keep balance and are forced to mind their own. Â
A chime rings out from the corner that has heads turning briefly in his direction before coming back to the competition.Â
âWhose was that?â Dick calls out.
Damian leans over and inspects the screens with disinterest. âToddâs.â
Jason adjusts his position, âWho is it?â
Damian responds with your name.Â
âAnd?â
He picks up the phone shrugging like he couldnât care less, âShe wants to know if you want to go see some movie.â
Thereâs a brief silence before Jason drops out of the handstand, standing up.Â
Dickâs blood-flushed face peers up at him, bewildered. âWait, what?â
The family watches with wide eyes as Jason picks his sweatshirt up off the floor and tugs it back on.
Stephanie gawks, bordering on laughing. âAre you serious?â
âYeah,â he says simply.
Dick lets himself fall into a kneeling position with a huff, âYou would rather go to some movie you donât even know the name of than win a bet?â
Jason moues at him, âUh, yeah.â
He tosses a twenty at Dick, and plucks his phone from Damianâs hand as he strolls past him, typing out a reply.
Cass sits up a bit and signs up to Stephanie, âDoes he even like movies?âÂ
Bruce, now attention now fully removed from his book, watches Jason exit with the slightest hint of a smile. Dick sits dumbly on the floor, staring after him with an open-mouth.Â
Damian twists the knife in his hands around contemplatively before rising to stand.Â
âI will go,â he announces, dropping his blade onto the seat of the chair. Jason grumbles a no but Damian follows after him just the same.

Last year, I wrote an Arkham Knight fanfic that takes place during the entirety of the game. Now looking back on it, there's some stuff I would change and improve upon to make it better like changing it from 3rd person to 2nd person. Would it be worth it to redo the fanfic and post it?
