stimming isn’t enough i need to fucking explode
if somebody is like, ‘excessively’ picky about food (and it’s not a deliberate dietary restriction like being vegan or paleo) then it’s almost certainly related to a disability or health condition. in fact I’d go as far as to say it’s 100% down to a disability or a health condition, even if they don’t know it themselves!
Nobody is going to choose to be extra picky about what they eat just like, for shits & giggles bcos it’s 1) extraordinarily inconvenient and 2) very anxiety-inducing
self reblog to add: the reason some picky eaters gravitate towards processed food as their ‘safe’ foods isn’t because they just want to eat junk food all the time. it’s because processed foods are predictable - you go into a mcdonalds and order chicken nuggets, they will be the same as every other mcdonalds chicken nuggets you’ve ever had.
if you have sensory processing disorder or ARFID (or both!) even tiny variations in what you’re eating can be a Big Deal. the natural variety you get with homecooked and fresh foods that most people enjoy is stressful and unpleasant. even eating a different brand of processed food than you usually would is :S when it’s not a given they’ll be truly identical.
I see people act like someone who’s ‘safe’ food is e.g. bread and butter must have a legitimate issue whereas someone who’ll only eat mcdonalds chicken nuggets is clearly being obnoxious but that’s just… not true? what makes it a legitimate problem is how restricted the person’s diet is, not what foods they eat.
sorry for the deep fried nature of this pic, i had a hard time finding a good copy (or a source). but this has stuck with me since i first saw it
Higher resolution image in case the other one is two small.
Nothing pisses me off more than autistic folks who know the history and STILL choose to refer to themselves as having Asperger's. Sorry, you don't Get to reclaim that word. Hans Asperger was a Nazi, and especially if you're a white gentile, you don't get to "reclaim" it. Sorry. You don't.
Sincerely, an autistic Jew
And like, he wasn’t just a Nazi, he was a Nazi whose specific job was evaluating autistic kids to decide if they should be murdered or not. The difference between asperger’s and autism is just the arbitrary criteria he had for which children lived and which ones died.
You can’t ‘reclaim’ the term Asperger’s, because the whole fucking point of the term is to say some people with a certain handful of symptoms shouldn’t be lumped in with the rest of us autistic people, because they’re fundamentally better for having that specific set of symptoms. It’s a term that prioritizes stepping on your own community to cater to neurotypicals (and yknow fucking nazis in case anyone forgot that part). There’s no reclaiming that can happen here; if someone says they have Asperger’s, I feel very unsafe around them, because I’m rightfully afraid they’re going to look down on me for being autistic.
Stop using Asperger’s. There’s no excuse.
so I made a compilation

MOTHER FUCKER
we’re having a Snow Day, which is fine.
except it’s NOT bc the huge shift in atmospheric pressure has rendered my autistic brain completely useless for the foreseeable future. all services have been shut down. the roads are closed and so are my neural pathways
when you said atmospheric pressure shut down your brain it took me a second to realize you meant the atmosphere as in how tense school is compared to how calm home is, and not that autistic people have some kind of internal barometer that is attached to their brain.
nope, I’m literally talking about barometric pressure!
for those who aren’t aware, autistic brains are sensitive to barometric pressure shifts. changes in atmospheric pressure (like those caused by rain) effect our blood oxygen levels in a way that messes with our brains. sudden changes in weather can exacerbate our symptoms, making us irritable, lethargic, anxious, twitchy, overwhelmed etc, while our brains work overtime to adjust to the change. it’s just one of the ways that environmental factors other people take for granted (weather, noise, overhead music, lights, etc) can affect our lives in ways people don’t expect!
*reads this*
Me: cool!
Me: waitaminutethatactuallyexplainsalot-
For those that don’t understand fully. When atmospheric pressure is higher the weather is usually sunny and dry, whereas when it’s low it’s rainy, with darker clouds and weather in general.
When weather changes quickly there is either a drop or rise in atmospheric pressure, which can cause a drop in blood oxygen levels. When this happens, your body adjusts your heart rate and blood pressure to adapt to these changes, which can interfere with your brain activity. So if you find yourself having mood swings or generally feeling more anxious or on-edge, this might be the reason why.
ppl don’t understand adhd/autistic cleaning processes. we think so far ahead it’s like,,, impossible to do shit. you want me to vaccuum my bedroom floor? okay. we need to pick up all the stuff thats on it first, though. and where are we going to put the stuff? well, theres a couple categories of Stuff- Clothes, Random Items, and Trash. Trash is easy, we just throw it away. Clothes have to be sorted into Clean, Not Clean- and then the not clean ones have to go in the laundry bag, but theres so many so i might have to start a load now- ugh, distracted. lets go back to the clean clothes. well, these go in my drawer but- my drawer is really disorganized, so i’ll have to organize the clothes first so that theyll fit and look neat. by the time i’m done with that, i’ve spent an hour and a half trying to do stuff in my room. i finally turn to random items, most of which can find a home on my desk, but others i dont really know what to do with. plus, my desk is dirty. so i have to organize my desk, figure out where everything goes, and the stuff that doesn’t have a place can go in… a box, i guess. (not like i don’t have three other boxes full of random stuff in my closet) so i put all the items back up but now i have this box full of stuff i dont know if i need so i have to go through it, sorting it into donate and dont donate piles. i might as well throw in some clothes to, so i dig through my clothes drawer and get the clothes i dont want, throw them in there too. okay, back to the random items- the ones i dont want to donate are still here, so i have to put them somewhere. i dont have anywhere to put them- maybe i should get a shelf? i start googling shelves, figuring out which ones would be best for my room, debating prices, learning about installation, and eventually im like ‘well, already on my computer’ and i decide im going to ‘check’ social media and end up lost in it for an hour or so. you walk back in, and theres stuff all over the floor, albeit in bags and boxes, and it still hasnt been vacuumed. its been five hours since i started. how does it take five hours to clean your room? it just does.
This post walked into my room, pointed to the three boxes of random stuff sitting in my closest right now, and then shot me.
executive dysfunction be like that
happy july i hate Autism Moms so much its unreal
overstimulation/sensory overload really is like sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of my shirt tag being itchy and these two strands of hair touching my face and the tv and one of my shoelaces being undone and air touching me and the plane flying overhead and my own thoughts about remembering to buy hummus
i can’t talk i have socks on
cis people be like. i would rather my loved one die than transition and be happy because it would be easier on me, the most important person in this situation, the cis person
cis people also be like. i love you but i need you to know if you live your true self i will always think of you as dead. and if you become happier i will consider your happy self a stranger. this is so hard on me. i am the victim.
Look, I know that this post is supposed to be positive. And honestly, I hate being the buzz kill, but do I care? No, not really. You shouldn't be generalizing a group like this. I, myself am a cis person, and I treat people with respect regardless of this gender or race. I don't care if people call me transphobic for saying this, as I should feel able to state my opinion. Anyway, yeah, if you disagree, tell me why, I'd like to know.
Sorry for the rant
you think this post is supposed to be positive? can you fucking read?

oh fuck it’s disability pride month
shoutout to those with chronic illness, physical handicaps, genetic disorders (yo that’s me!!), paralyzed folks, amputees, people who were disabled in accidents, those who were born with their condition, those with mental disorders, those with ptsd, blind folks, deaf folks, people who use wheelchairs, those who have to lug around equipment or else they die (hey that’s me again) and people who have a whole shelf in their fridge or pantry dedicated to their meds. we are loud and beautiful and diverse and incredible. may we finally get the same rights as our abled counterparts
and may accessibility departments return our goddamn phone calls
me: *saying "WHAT?" seven times to someone giving me coherent face-to-face verbal directions*
also me: *hears a faint noise and randomly lifts head like a deer* hey did u guys hear that??? wtf how could you not hear it-
non autistic people shut the fuck up about elon musk he doesnt deserve to be defended and i hope he dies
like as an autistic person i literally promise you there is countless ways to support us without licking the heels of the literal richest man on the planet who uses child labour and exploits millions of people
also ''aspergers'' isnt real and that hasnt been an official diagnosis for over a decade now and it was only called that in the first place because of a neo nazi eugenicist who sent autistic children to their deaths unless he deemed them ''smart enough'' to get the 'aspergers' label. also "high functioning" and "low functioning" autism isnt real. you are literally just autistic or you are not
non autistic people reblog this actually especially if you think even for a moment about defending the epic racist child labour billionaire lol
Money-saving tips adapted for people w/ ADHD:
1. Convince yourself that the future is Real and numbers have meaning
i did that and it gave me anxiety what’s the next step

I wish more autism parents would ditch the essential oils, Autism Speaks bullshit and instead focus on what their autistic children actually need. They don’t need fucking eucalyptus oil. They need soundproof windows. As an autistic person myself I understand that a lack of friends is concerning, but instead of forcing social interaction on your child, try getting them a dog or a cat, perhaps. 94% of families who get dogs for their autistic children report that their child forms a special bond with the pet. If your autistic child is suffering, 99% of the time, it’s not the autism that’s making them suffer- it’s the fact their needs are being ignored.
the fact neurotypicals can’t hear the electronics hum doesn’t sit right with me. they’re such strange creatures. what do you mean you can’t hear the computer going babdbbsjsbsbhmmmmmm? it’s very much there! in fact, at times it’s too loud and i cry over it! you have to be able to hear it!
... wait. Wait.
they can’t hear ticking of watches on the bedside at night, OR the hum of the electric alarm either. Blew my mind.
They... Can't... Hear the fridge humming? Neon tubs buzzing? The computer? The heater or the water or...? They don't hearall that??? What?
They do hear, they just don't notice as much as those of us who are sensitive to noise. After a while their brain simply filters out the white noise.
wait this is so fucked up
