Marc and Jonathan's friendship in 'about you' is so dear to me. Do you imagine Marc ever finds out about the 'before' stuff, or will he remain blissfully oblivious forever because he knows not to push lol
Honestly, I've never even thought about it. But it's a good question because I do see them being lifelong friends and collaborating on film projects in the future. I think, by nature, Marc really isn't one to push...like he's not nosy enough to press about anything people don't want to talk about (unless it's of grave importance or something).
You've got me thinking though. Like many people, I imagine Jonathan someday making a film loosely based on Hawkins and Marc producing it with him. To give Mike his flowers, maybe he writes a novel about everything and then Jonathan/Marc do the film adaptation. And with the novel, everyone assumes "hey, this author grew up in Hawkins during all that crazy quarantine stuff, and it inspired him to write a cool fictional sci-fi story". Any which way, it's a lot of late nights and Jonathan seems more intense about getting the screenplay just right (more than Marc has ever seen him). What really strikes Marc is how Jonathan keeps getting oddly emotional at points. Marc, like anyone, would be like..."why are you tearing up about this sci-fi creature and this super powered little girl and a bunch of kids on bikes?"
And I like to think one night he'd be like "Man, I don't think Spielberg even took ET this seriously. What? Did this happen to you personally?" with a laugh because...no shit its a joke. Jonathan would just have this look on his face, probably unintentionally. Marc's jaw would go slack and he'd be like "THIS DIDN'T ACTUALLY HAPPEN, RIGHT?"
From there, Jonathan would spill everything, they'd probably be up all night talking about it, Marc pacing, Jonathan giving all the details about which parts of Mike's book were altered for privacy/respect/not giving away that anything ACTUALLY happened/keeping the govt from stepping in.
Marc would believe him. He'd have a LOT of questions, but he'd believe him. Because Jonathan just isn't the type of guy to spin a yarn like that. (Granted, what a hilarious practical joke this could have been if not for the horrors.) So Marc would be initiated into Those Who Know.
Finally, just want to say that unlike the Duffers, I will never forget Argyle. I don't see him ever living in NYC but could imagine him visiting frequently enough. I think he and Eden would be nomads, following The Grateful Dead or something like that lol. Plus, if his homebase stays in SoCal, Jonathan would see him anytime he has to be in LA for work/meetings. I'm stream of conscious thinking about this now...you know how different directors cast their buddies/family as bit parts in all of their films? I think Jonathan would do that with Argyle, he'd probably make a really good character actor tbh.
This was a lot of information, but seriously, thank you for asking! Because clearly it got me thinking quite a bit.
