the only thing i miss about g1 monster high that i wish they kept in g3 monster high is that in g1 lagoona called someone a cunt and got in trouble for it.

the thing about the one piece adaptation is that it doesn’t take itself seriously in the sense of trying to make things more realistic or grounded or grimdark but it DOES take itself seriously in the sense of everyone putting their whole pussy into treating cwazy hair stupid weapon silly name world as the reality the characters are in and one that has real emotional stakes and it kind of rules

To be fair it DOES take itself a bit more seriously, but like only as much as is needed to make the transition form cartoon characters to humans work. It drops and downplays some gags, adds more quiet and lowkey moments, and general is a bit more ‘realistic’ in how it treats it characters. BUT it never shys away from the raw absurdity of the world or feels like it’s embarrassed by the source material. Rather it’s simply providing a new take on a familiar story that the crew clearly loves.

It does a REALLY good job of selling that this is just a world where clown pirates can dismember themselves, people use snails as phones, and people can have names like Captain Smoker. These are just facts of the universe and not to be remarked upon (except for a realistic degree of marveling at the various powers).

In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly don’t get it. I call it the Pascal Method.

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.

I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.

I keep thinking about tht 4chan post that's like "it's qualityslop, you only like it bc it's good." I actually think for some people "liking things just bc they're good" can be a negative in their lives. this is people who have heard that something is good or a classic and so they read or watch it but don't really connect on an emotional level, and yet they still go on to tell other people how good it is bc what they're really interested in is the social capital that comes from having "good taste." they are missing out on some things they would enjoy for being "lowbrow" and they are probably not developing their personal taste bc they only get into things that the culture has already decided are good. however since these people are usually between 13 and 25 years old it is not a problem for society that they do this bc they will likely grow out of it

this is related to people making memes that are like "film bros when you say you liked thor ragnarok better than the black and white Croatian art film they showed you." maybe the person who made that post didn't think they would be able to connect to a Croatian art film and they have some personal work to do (although they are probably 18 years old so that's to be expected) but I think it's also possible that you make that post bc the person who was so obsessed with the Croatian art film did not seem to have an emotional connection. bc you will see people say "well this is a really important film. the director only made two movies before he died. there's pioneering visual techniques" and then people who experience fiction more through emotion and storytelling are like "but did you LIKE it?"
