Unpopular opinion: the folk posting hashtags and petitions and arguing with your racist auntie on FB are doing just as much (if not a lot more imho) than self proclaimed revolutionaries
The second we allow power to gain total control of the narrative is the second we are driven completely underground and things get very very dangerous for everyone
We need people to make noise, not because itâs an effective way to institute systemic changes, but because the fash need to know they are opposed, not just by activists but right in their own communities and familyâs and work places. Because complacent people need to know that there is another story to be told. Because activists need to know that they are not fighting a hopeless cause. Because revolutionaries do not spring forth spontaneously, but learn the cause and find the community through these sorts of public actions. Because it stops the right railroading with their âthe will of the peopleâ âpopulist movementâ rhetoric. Because everything is connected, and just because someone isnât building guillotines right now doesnât mean they wonât be build barricades tomorrow - and just because politicians wonât listen to petitions doesnât mean that there is no power in thousands of people putting their name to a cause or that no-one learns anything from the conversations that spring up around them, or that todayâs slogan wonât inspire tomorrowâs action
There are 7bn of us, we are working in an intensely complex and interconnected system - none of us can see the big picture, let alone control the system, we just have to keep turning the single cog that we do control and hope that will, in someway, help steer the Rube Goldberg machine that is human society in the right direction!
