I’ve been talking to a lot of folks from a lot of different backgrounds over the past few weeks, folks I probably wouldn’t typically have cause to interact with, and the biggest thing I’ve realized is that most ppl can (and do) agree w you on everything you say, but they get uncomfortable when you start talking abt changing the system itself. They believe any such effort is futile, suicidal, or both. To them, the system is the default, and the only change we can possibly hope for is within it.
Some act like you’re crazy to even suggest it. They’ll say, “well, there’s nothing you can do abt that, though,” as though they lack the imagination to envision anything else. They see the system, and the ppl upholding it, as all-powerful. Nothing is all-powerful. The truth is, these billionaires who think they’re all-powerful are actually some of the most incompetent and incapable ppl on the planet—I don’t mean that they’re incompetent and incapable at being billionaires, whatever that entails (typically stacking and restacking virtual paper in an ideally infinite series of shell games), but that they’re incompetent and incapable of being humans.
They’re incompetent bc they think only of themselves and their own material gain. Humans are social creatures, therefore a competent human is one that recognizes they need a healthy community to thrive. They’re incapable bc this focus on themselves and their own material gain has stunted their emotional growth, leaving them devoid of empathy, an emotion required to build and sustain healthy communities.
Ideally, they wouldn’t have to deal w any other humans at all. This is why they’re all building doomsday bunkers. They know that they’re destroying the earth and they don’t care bc they hate it and they hate us. They believe they will survive whatever apocalypse wipes us all out and then be free to build their own master race.
This isn’t some fucking Marvel movie, although they really wish we would keep talking abt how comically evil they sound, bc as long as we do that, it means we’re not taking them seriously.
