biography
tw; parental death, car accident, corporate corruption.
Ana was born ‘Ana Ramos Valdez’ in Santa Catarina. Her early childhood was a happy one, she was an only child and had two loving parents. At the age of seven, however, both her parents passed away in a car accident. With no family to take her in, she was adopted by an American family in Seattle. Her adoptive father was a rich CEO and was somewhat in the public eye, and she had several adoptive siblings. She took her new family’s name at their request and went by ‘Ana Underwood’.
Growing up, she was a compassionate person who loved people and animals. She became a vegan at the age of fifteen.
Despite it all being big and scary at first, Ana grew to love her adoptive family and enjoyed the privilege of having access to a lot of money. When she graduated from High School, instead of going to college, she started traveling the world doing volunteer work. Her focus was wildlife conservation but she also did a lot of humanitarian work. By far, her favorite experience was working with elephants in Thailand.
Ana used her adoptive father’s money to do all this work, and had no problem with that. It was only when she found out that his company participated in wage theft that she decided she didn’t want him or his dirty money in her life. Especially after discovering that she and her siblings were only adopted to make him look good in the public eye.
She changed her name back to 'Ana Ramos Valdez’, and discovered that she had a biological cousin living in Maple Brook. She couldn’t travel the world anymore, but she felt like helping the homeless in New York would be a productive use of her free time.
Once she was there, she took a bartending job and decided to save up to study zoology in college. She knows she has a long path ahead of her, but she is determined to build a career where she can do good in the world.

"yeah, sorry-- my name's joanna. i'm a uh, new old resident." she smiles a bit and shifts her hands beheind her back to stop from nervously fidgeting. "honestly, elephants sounds pretty accurate. you won't be hearing much of the chaos i've got all the couches and big furniture all set. serves me right trying to be independent and do it myself without movers. but, i most definitely give you my word you won't be hearing much from me anymore. " she really was acting like her own wrost nightmare with all of this. "scout's honor, i swear."
"Shame, I love elephants." Ana said, with a small smirk. "And I definitely understand the independence thing." She added, before stepping aside a little. "Why don't you come in?" She said, before gesturing to the living room. "I only just started preparing dinner, you're free to join." She said, with a smile.
"You know, I love reading gardening books." Ana confessed, as she was looking through the shelves. "I read a lot of non-fiction, but gardening books are my favorite. It's amazing all the little tips and tricks you learn. Especially from ones that were published donkeys years ago." She added, before turning her attention towards him. "How are things going in the museum?"
Catalina-- well, she doesn't pout. But she pouts as much as a grown woman can. Ana may be right, but Catalina couldn't help it. Some people were having a mild couples quarrel and Cat wanted to help. Still, Catalina looks over the menu before saying, "Moscow Mule?" Because she did like the bite of the ginger beer. "Hey, but listen. If you forgot an important date, what would you do to make up for it?" It's what the conversation she'd been eavesdropping on was about but Catalina hadn't had a lover in that way so who was she to say what appropriate penance was.
Ana started fixing the woman a Moscow Mule - this was like second nature to her at this point. Reflex. She was easily able to continue the conversation as she worked. Her gaze moved over to the couple in question for a moment, raising an eyebrow at them. "Depends on my partner, I guess." She said, with a shrug. "Which one of them forgot the oh so important date?"
joanna has been a MESS with her house to say the least. all the painting has been done but, moving the furniture in and around the house has been a travesty to say the least. she's had a few choice words shared fairly loudly within her walls---to no one but herself of course. and she thinks she must be a neighbor's worst nightmare at this rate. to minimize the damage and to assure that is isn't going to be a normal occurance she walks over next door and knocks on the door. once it opens with a small smile jo says, "hey there...i uh, just moved in. half of this greeting is a hello and the other half is apologies. i'm sure it's been quite noisy but i swear i'm almost done."
Ana was less than impressed with all the noise coming from next door - especially when she was trying to do peaceful things like garden and meditate. Alas, she couldn't judge too much. She was just as noisy moving in. She was making some spring rolls for dinner when she heard a knock on the door, which she immediately went over to answer. "Oh, you're the new neighbor?" Ana said, with a small smirk. "What are you moving in there? Elephants?"

"You know you're going to get punched if you keep listening in on conversations like that." Ana said, letting out a small laugh. She leaned on the bar for a moment, grateful for something to distract her from the incredibly busy evening she was having. "Do you want anything?"
"Cutest things in the whole goddamn world for sure" Stavo agreed as he looked through the pictures she showed him and felt the tension of the day slowly ebbing away and his mood improving. "Just putting out the various fires my siblings always seem to be starting in their lives" he huffed with a shake of his head. "Sometimes I wish I could just take a break from them for a day, you know?" he sighed, "What about you? Anything new and exciting in your life?"
"What fires have they started this time?" She asked, at the mention of his siblings. It must not be nice to be responsible for your whole family like that, she had empathy for him there. "Well, I think I'll be able to apply for NYU in 2027." Ana said with a smile, when asked how things were going on her end. "The saving has really been paying off!"
"I always thought it was a fake tree," Alejandro stage whispered. Maple brook's Tree Lighting Ceremony was a fun tradition; it was nowhere near as glamorous as the similar one NYC held each year, but truth be told, Ale was pretty sure he preferred this one. The town always came to life during the holiday season with all of the lights and decor. Still, the fact that each year a new tree was selected to be the tree seemed a bit over the top to him. Wouldn't it be easier if they simply had an artificial tree that they put up and took down every year? "But I'm starting to think that Mayor Crowley has an in with some kind of tree dealer or something."
"Thing is, real trees are better for the environment." Ana explained, to the man next to her. Though she did agree that having a whole ceremony was a bit much. Still, she like that this little town cared so much. "And fake trees don't look as nice." She added, before glancing over to the tree in question. She wasn't trying to shame the man, her tone was very friendly. "I do agree that this whole thing is a bit much, though."
"Good thing neither of us are vampires, then." Zane teases with a light laugh, shaking his head. "I like it on chicken. Or if you don't eat meat, it's pretty good on some roasted veggies too. Honestly, it's pretty versatile." He explains with a nod. "How's your garden ding? Probably dormant for the winter, I would think. Truth be told. I don't have much of a green thumb."
"Well, I don't eat meat so I'll keep roasted veggies in mind." She said, with a small laugh. It's not like being a vegan was something Ana wanted to flaunt, but food was such a common topic of conversation. It was going to come up, and it was going to come up often. "Well, I want to get some garlic cloves planted before the frost comes in - and winter is about planning for the next year, so it'll still keep me occupied."
Jin nodded, taking in the information about her name change without making a big deal out of it. “Ana Ramos, got it.” He smiled at her. He glanced back at his equipment briefly, adjusting a knob to keep the music flowing smoothly before giving her his attention again. The muscle memory made it easy enough to multitask. “That’s cool!” He smiled at her when she shared what she did these days. “That’s a lot different from where I remember you from,” he offered with a playful smile. He wasn’t judging though, hell, he had gone from high-profile events to a club in small-town Connecticut. Who was he to talk? “How long have you been here? Do you like it here?”
"It's as good of a place as any." Ana said with a shrug, when Jin asked if she liked it here. She could garden, she could save for college. It had the added bonus of being able to meet her cousin. That was all she needed for the time being. Maybe once she got her zoology degree, she'd want more from where she lived - but she was nowhere near reaching that point just yet. "I've been here for about a year. What about you?"

"Dang, going straight for the big guns. You know that nobody can stay in a bad mood when they are looking at cute bunnies" he shook his head with a genuine chuckle, already feeling some of the stress leave his body from the couple of minutes since Ana sat down. She really was a source of light for him.
"Especially my bunnies. They're such a cute quartet." She said, proudly, as she flicked through the photos and showed them to her friend. Animals were easily one of Ana's biggest passions in life. "What have you been up to, anyway?" She asked, once she flicked through all the photos and set her phone down.
"Garlic. A very important addition to almost every meal." Zane muses with a nod, humming softly. At least, that's what he thought. "Me? Just picking up a couple of refills for things I'm low on at home. You'd be surprised how quickly I go through spices." He half jokes. "I recommend this one, if you're ever looking for something new." Gesturing towards one of the spice blends, he offers Ana a smile. "It's a little smoky and a little sweet."
"I do eat a lot of garlic." Ana said in agreement, letting out a small laugh. It wasn't a bad thing, garlic is good for the heart. On top of tasting really good. At the spice recommendation, Ana took the jar and glanced at the label to see what was inside of it. Were they spices she grew regularly? There was a whole herb bed in her garden. "Anything in particular you'd put this in?" She asked.
"You say that every time you see me, regardless of my mood" Stavo said with a short laugh as he moved his legs to give Ana room to sit down. "Oh you know, just the usual shit going on." he shrugged, "Are you going to have a crack at making me less grumpy today? You're usually pretty good at it"
"I don't say that every time I see you." Ana protested, though it was definitely most of the time. At his request, she took a sip of her beer before thinking it over. "Do you want to see some pictures I took of my bunnies in their new run?" She asked, as she pulled her phone out. Cute animals always put her in a good mood.
"Good day? Bad day? Feel free to join me for a beer but don't expect me to be too talkative today" Stavo warned as he took a sip and brushed some hair out of his face. It had been a long day, made even longer by some of the things going on around him and he just needed a distraction for a bit. "Just don't keep standing there and looking at me like I'm a lost puppy"
Ana had just wrapped her shift and ordered herself a (vegan) beer to unwind before heading home. She couldn't help but let out a sigh when she saw Stavo. "This is such a sorry sight." She said, as she sat herself down opposite him anyway. "Anything in particular got you grumpy today?"

zane was almost finished with his shopping trip, having picked up a few things for the apartment. even though he cooked for a living, zane still loved cooking for himself and his roommates too whenever he could. it really was his love language. he's busy examining a selection of spice blends when he feels someone step close by, smiling when he sees that it's ana. "fancy seeing you here. you find anything interesting today?"
Funnily enough, Ana wasn't in the market for cooking that day. She was looking for something related to her gardening. November had rolled around and it was he last chance to get something planted before the frost got took hold. She was looking for some garlic cloves, but found herself distracted by the spices when Zane approached her. She turned to him and offered a smile. "Not really, but I'm only looking for garlic." Ana explained, before glancing down at the spices briefly. "What about you?"

eli couldn't imagine doing anything except being a tattoo artist. she had tried the fine art route but it very much wasn't for her. "yep, all day. i specialize in real life portraits, like the one i drew for you. except, you know, on skin." it was considerably harder to draw on skin than on paper, for the obvious reasons, but now it was like second nature to eli.
"Oh wow." Ana said, when the person revealed their specialty. She heard that tattooing faces was particularly hard to get right so she was clearly speaking to a talented individual. "How long have you been an tattoo artist?" She asked.
Rafael wouldn’t consider himself an avid reader. In fact, he could probably count on one hand the books he’d read from cover to cover, but he had to admit that the concept of a blind date with a book was something that had intrigued since he’d first seen the event advertised; he was just a sucker for a good surprise. “So, a book about a murder that happens on a private island,” he began, holding up one of the books he held, “or psychological thriller about a serial killer? Can’t really decide which one I prefer.” He turned to the person beside him. “Anything catch your eye yet?”
Ana enjoyed reading non-fiction specifically. Travel books. Biology books. Gardening books. Cook books. Just off the top of her head. She came to this event looking for a book that would expand her mind. That was when she glanced over to the man next to her, who couldn't choose between two premises. "I'm not particularly into stuff like that." She said, apologetically. "Though the first one sounds more interesting." She added, just trying to be helpful. "Well: 'An exploration of a forgotten landscape' seems interesting, but I'm looking at some other stuff first. Just to be sure that's what I want."
