CHARACTER INTRO.
sienna atkins didn't exactly have the best childhood. she didn't have the picture perfect family everyone thought they had. but having her sister violet by her side made it better. honestly, she was more than just a sister to her--she was the one who filled up the role of a parental figure, filling the void their parents left behind. she was the one who ensured that sienna had a hot meal, who helped her with her homework, who wiped her tears when she's upset--she was more than just family to her. she was her solid ground, the one person she could always rely on. that's probably why she took it harder when violet left. the moment violet walked out the door, the foundation of her world crumbled. she had lost the only person who had ever made her feel truly cared for and it didn't help that her parents manipulated her into thinking that violet left because of her.
she was already a troubled kid before vi left, but her sister's departure pushed her further down. with their parents gone more often than not, and no one there to steer her away from trouble, she started hanging out with the wrong sort of crowd--the older kids. they taught her things she needed to in order to survive such as petty theft, vandalism, sneaking out after dark, and other minor crimes. she never got caught, but it didn't make the actions any less damaging. it was her way of coping, her way of drowning out that ache. and to make sure she had enough to eat, she started doing odd jobs--washing dishes for the local diner, running errands for neighbours, and delivering packages she would rather not know what's inside. it wasnât much, but it was enough to keep her going. she repressed her feelings, locking it away where it couldn't hurt her as she put on a facade. she became numb to everythingâthe loneliness, the anger, the confusion. she wasnât a child anymore, and she certainly wasnât going to cry over things she couldnât control.
then, one night, she stumbled upon a stray kitten across an old building. it was curled up in a dusty corner, its eyes wide and fearful, and it looked as if it had been abandoned just like her. for the first time in a long time, siennaâs heart softened as she looked at the kitten. she couldn't live it there, so she ended up taking it back into their house, one she couldn't really call a home. she ended up caring for it and nurturing it back to health even when she can barely take care of herself. she felt strangely connected to mr. mittens, which she named after her imaginary friend when she was younger. one she never told anyone about.
when violet came back, she wasn't really expecting it anymore. but she did and she fought their parents over a lawsuit to gain full custody of sienna. and only then did the realization hits her that everything the people gossiped about their parents was true. that they were indeed involved in different scams, embezzlement, fraud, etc. their parents weren't just bad parents--they were criminals. and the truth has a difficult way of setting in. and with violet being back for her, she wasn't sure how to feel since she's used to being by herself now. and as much as she loves her sister, she also feels a little resentment for her leaving. it took time for them to build their bond back together, but little by little, sienna was able to let go of that anger.
currently, sienna still has trouble in dealing with her feelings. it's either she feels nothing or she feels everything all at once and it can be overwhelming. it was a constant cycle that left her drained, unsure of how to navigate the world around her. the loss of mr. mittens had hit her harder than she had anticipated. she knew that it was bound to happen with his old age, but she wasn't prepared for his passing. one small thing could easily make her spiral. and yet, there's a small part of her that longed for connection. but she didn't know how to let anyone in, how to let her guard down. and that's why she preferred animals to people. with the animals, she could show affection without needing to be emotionally vulnerable. she wants to be there for those who have also been abandoned, to make these animals feel loved while they're waiting to find their forever home. and maybe one day, she could also learn how to let her guard down and trust once more.
HEADCANONS.
sienna had a late start when it came to speaking, she didn't say her first full sentence until around the age of four, something that worried her parents at the time since it might ruin the perfect image they're trying to portray. when she finally did begin to talk, it came with a stutter that clung to her words like a shadow. throughout her early years, speech therapy became a part of her routine and she manage to overcome the stutter before she reached her teens. however, it never really left her and it still creeps in when she's nervous or overwhelmed.
