because I had this awesome password journal as a kid

but it was a bitch to open because you had to say the password the same way every time

so after a while I gave up on it and never tried to open it again

but today I was cleaning my room and found it

so I decided to open it, thinking that it contained old journal entries or drawings from when I was a kid

but I don’t know the password anymore and it didn’t even have any batteries

so I thought maybe unscrewing the back would open it

ha

haha

nope

so now I have to deal with all these wires and gears and shit and end up unscrewing more things and breaking some stuff too

finally I get in

and it’s fucking empty

but I notice the little compartment thingy and open it

there was a folded up piece of paper inside

and I can’t stop laughing because I worked so hard to get into the thing and past me is just like

The Twisted Trees of Slope Point, New Zealand

Slope Point is at the southernmost point of the South Island of New Zealand. The air streams loop the ocean, unobstructed for 2000 miles, until they reach Slope Point causing incredibly strong winds. In fact, the winds are so strong and persistent here that they perpetually warp and twist the trees into these crooked, wind-swept shapes. 

Slope Point is generally uninhabited, except for the herds of sheep that graze the land. There are no roads leading here, however backpackers regularly make the short 20-minute walk to see the fascinating tree formations that only Mother Nature could create. However there is no public access during the lambing season from September to November.

Turned on the lights because Toffee was being ridiculously noisy, only to see:

The lid is on and 100% locked via the handles.

I wadded up a bunch of tissue to shove into the gap, until I could get something done about it. This didn’t stop Toffee from trying to escape.

Gorgeous. I stayed up, partly out of paranoia, and he decided to keep trying to noodle his way out until gone 2am. Fun fact: I get up for work at 5am.

But he went back into his cave eventually, and was still there when I woke up. I was fairly certain that he’d manage to get out while I was at work, though, and decided whatever–I can close the door, it’s a tiny room, and there’s no way for him to get under the floorboards or into the walls.

Popped into B&Q on my way back from work to get some wood to plug the gaps with, came home, and yep…

He made short work of that.

I start looking in the obvious places, not super panicked. If you’ve followed me for a while, you may remember the saga of the last time I lost him: he was out, sitting on my lap, and then he wasn’t. Five hours later, after tearing apart the house, I found him inside my bed frame. Anyway: behind and around the rack, behind the 15kg bag of substrate I have that takes up 90% of my floor, under the bed–nothing.

Put my bag down on the bed, glance at the pillow and wait a minute.

Jackpot.
