SEE LIKE. percieving the Player is very benrey-coomer territory to me. tommy isnt played at all like an ai mostly cos thats how baaulp chose to play him yknow but like. as much as theres the mystique of The Player, i think a lot about how the gnome basically strongarmed Gordonplayer OUT of trying to self-identify as Alyx Vance AT ALL during HLAGE. he was literally harangued into letting the gnome call him Gordon again.

as much as tommy never had his own "ai becomes self aware" moment i do think theres something that could be equally as scary as "the npc in the video game is realizing nothing in their world is real and theyre starting to get really mad at You about it" which is "the npc in the video game is aware You are behind gordon freeman, but they dont care, and they will actively try to keep you playing for longer so they can see Their Beloved Gordon Freeman."

While we're all being very normal about GTommy, is now a good time to point out that the yellow of Gregori's God Moments is similar to Tommy Yellow. Ya know, casual impersonation of a deity to stick closer to and take care of Gordon, through the lense of a caring and comforting figure that Gordon already has let get close. Just a note.

what really fucks me up about watching the truman show in 2025 is how it's not fictional. truman is fictional, but the truman show isn't.

there's thousands of truman shows. you find them on youtube, tiktok, instagram... family and mommy vloggers, sad beige moms and now the trend of neglectful moms showing the "reality" of parenting. all of them using their kids for entertainment. each child their own truman; living a life manufactured by their parents, a camera watching their every moment, broadcasted for the entire world to see.

Even if we've barely interacted at all let alone spoken to one another, you still matter to me, alright? I would still feel your absence, regardless of what form that absence would take.

And, frankly, even if you hate and detest me for whatever reason and have done or tried to do things to hurt or even kill me, there's still a thousand reasons i'd rather learn you stopped because of than your death, disappearance, or having moved on to a new target. I'm not under any illusions that it will ever happen with any kind of frequency since it requires a willingness and capacity for introspection, critical thinking, humanization, and kindness that most of you have carved out of yourselves by this point, but I sincerely hope at least some of you come to realize of depths of the pointless misery your actions have helped to spread. Fix your hearts. No "or die". Just fix them, please, or at least do one thing for me, if nothing else, and reflect on how miserable of a person you've become as you hit send on that hateful message you're about to drop in my ask box, alright?

Let's work towards a kinder, gentler future, instead, okay? Even if you've been working against it until now. I won't give up on that, or on myself, or on you. I love you.
