i hate the horse hate people are so mean to them when half of this is false and the other half is misinterpreted to make horses look bad
punctuation and capitalization GO
Horses are not omnivorous and while they can eat meat this does not mean they should or that it is good for them. Anything is edible once
Horses have been changed wildly due to domestication and used to be much hardier smaller and stockier and more similar to ponies, which was much better for their natural environments. HUMANS gave them longer legs, larger bodies, etc. so a lot of their perceived health problems are because of human interference. I wrote an essay on horse evolution before that covers this a little more
Rodents also need their teeth growth managed and we don't call them freaks of nature for it. Horses are grazers whose natural diets consist of coarse grasses that wear down their teeth. They have to continuously eat this their whole lives like all large grazers so of course they need to have good teeth for it. It’s humans fault that they need their teeth filed bc they've been removed from their natural environment and diet.
Similarly to this last point, because horses are meant for a life of continuous eating, their bodies are designed to be constantly processing their intended diet of grasses in order to keep up with their large body size and won't vomit because of that structure. Horse bodies are built for a different type of life than humans, and vomiting requires a lot of different parts of the body working as one, and horse bodies do not have the proper alignment of organs and reflexes to vomit. This is not a bad thing because typically in their natural environments horses should be eating only coarse grasses and don't have any reason to vomit or mistake something inedible or poisonous for grass. I have an immense fear of vomit so I won't go more into vomit science but yeah
SO MANY ANIMALS have skull shapes that give them better vision on their sides than their fronts. This is a common thing in prey animals because they need to be able to see all around them to look out for predators. It's very anthropocentric to berate them for having "bad sight" when they can see SO MUCH MORE than humans if we're just talking about field/range of vision. They only have a VERY SMALL blind spot in front of them, anyway, and can see most of what is in front of them using binocular vision, while they use monocular vision to see in a wide arc around their sides.
Humans ourselves only use AT MAX about 1/3 the oxygen we inhale, so this is a stupid argument. If horses weren't getting the proper oxygen they needed, they wouldn't be such good runners. You should NEVER be using ALL of the oxygen in your lungs, because you should always have some extra, or else you're constantly gasping for breath to perfectly fill your lungs. Their hearts work perfectly with this amount of oxygen
This also misrepresents horse breathing. Horses breathe normally except at gallop, where their intestines don't "slosh back and forth," they move, because their bodies are DESIGNED TO RUN and that movement of their internal organs during gallop is caused by the movement of their abdominal muscles to push their body along. That movement allows them to breathe perfectly in time with each stride, preventing hyperventilating or messing up their breath. This allows them to run more perfectly than humans, who can get messed up in their breathing during sprint and sometimes have to practice/learn how to breathe properly during exertion!!!!
Horses receive enough grief as it is people need to stop spreading misinformation and misrepresenting the information that is out there when it comes to them. We transformed horses into our ideal working animal and now that they have no real purpose in many large modern societies we berate and ridicule them for even their most uncontrollable bodily functions? Why can we not simply accept them for what they are and admire the uniqueness of their biology instead of ridiculing them for it??? I don’t get it horses are beautiful and deserve love just like all living things. They do not exist to spite Mother Nature, they are one of her many children. I hate that people act like horses are some unholy monster when they’re just animals trying to live and at the end of the day so are we
seriously adore this addition horseimagebarn and it could not have been said better than this!
Calling horse hearts tiny is funny, lol. If you can handle an animal autopsy, check out this documentary on the biology of Thoroughbreds. It's a great way to see how big a horse's heart actually is. Below is the size difference between a regular horse's heart and a cow's heart (an animal that weighs the same, if not more, than a horse):
Horse hearts are MASSIVE in comparison to cows because they evolved to run fast, which requires really big lungs and a really big heart.
I think this whole "horses are terribly constructed and weird!" thing started on Tumblr and people won't give it up, but horses are actually very well suited to their environments and very tough. It's why feral horses can live "wild" on the range out west and thrive, where as feral cats and dogs really struggle without human intervention (dogs particularly).
They evolved to have one toe because it allowed them to gallop faster, therefore outrunning predators. This idea that they're some Frankenstein monster of evolution gone awry is dumb; it is due to evolution they have one toe on each foot, not in spite of it. You can run faster with one toe when you're big. And horses are massive in comparison to, say, antelope, but in the wild they're the same size as zebra, who have no problem living in the wild and in fact do just fine, even when hunted by lions. We specifically bred horses to be too big for their own feet, and only in the past hundred years or so.
I have no idea why people think horses cannot see in front of them. They look right at you when you approach. why would they do that if they can't see you in front.
Horses do not bite your finger because they want to eat it????!!! They bite your finger cuz you're a dumbfuck putting your finger in a horse's mouth. I've had horses take treats gently from between my fingers. Paprika (my mare) once nuzzled the back of my head for a few seconds before grabbing the knot of my bandana and pulling it off my head. She managed this without grabbing ANY skin or hair. Horses are marvelously dexterous with their lips and mouths. They groom each other all the time as part of their social bonding; they know what hurts and what doesn't!
Not all horses are as gentle as they should be, so it's a PRECAUTION to give horses treats on a flattened palm. You bite the inside of your lip sometimes; in this way, sometimes a horse will mistake your fingers as a carrot. I've never had it happen, but I'm still careful until I know the horse, just like I don't smack their butts or jump around any other dumb shit. You have to respect their size and strength, but they are incredibly perceptive animals and when they trust you, you can do pretty much anything you want around them.

When you are unemployed, mysterious voices will tell you to "become a youtuber" but you must remind yourself that it's probably the amulet talking. The amulet you found last week, near the park. It has given you good advice so far, but there is always a line that you shouldn't cross.

people will design soap dispensers and dish racks and go like it's okay if this is capable of getting rusty, right. that's an acceptable weak point for an item whose sole immutable destiny is to get wet every time it's used, right
oh ok
