This is only the beginning. Our country has not only entered a new decade, it seems a new dawning era as well, because this flaming apocalypse doesn't show any sign of stopping any time soon.

And you know what saddens me? I've never seen Australian tragedies trending here on this website. I mean it's been going on for months and only now does it seem to really be getting recognized, even if it is only at #9.

And I'm going to be honest with you here - the internet, and media in general is so American centric, this website being no exception. You'd think that an entire continent being on fire for several months with devastating consequences would have more recognition, but no, it really doesn't. The most notes I've ever seen on a post about the Australian fires is at least a few thousand, and that's about it.

When the rainforest was on fire, it took weeks after the fact to get any attention.

Now Australia is a literal inferno and it's taking months to gain attention.

Our world is burning. And the mass media isnt covering it. Yes the internet at large is very American, but the thing is these issues aren't being broadcasted here. Because most of our media is in the pockets of people who would lose a lot of money if the masses truly knew the scale of damage from climate change.

And sadly most Americans rely on that media instead of reaching out and finding other resources.

We aren't deliberately ignoring it, we as a country are being left in the dark about it. The only reason I knew when they started was from having Aussie friends, and then it showing up on international news.

I had no idea Alaska (and the artic circle as a whole) was on fire until someone I love went up there to help. It was never on local news, and only a few national stories covered it. The ARCTIC was BURNING and we didn't know.

I only found out about the rainforest fires from here. Lmao, our media giving a shit about anything in South America? Yeah not happening.

I'm not one to follow news much in general just because most of it is really fucking depressing but I at least know where to look. Most Americans don't.
