we'd be spared a lot of gifted kid discourse if some of you would just admit to yourselves that you grew up thinking you were superior to everyone else and now you're deeply insecure after realizing that you're not actually all that special
everyone in the notes like "that's what we were already saying" missed the point here entirely bc what im getting at is not just being disappointed in yourself for not living up to expectations. it's the unspoken part where "not living up to expectations" = "doing as well as people i always looked down on, working jobs that i thought were beneath me, still feeling bitter about it years later bc i havent let go of my elitism and i still kinda think i inherently deserve better"
i like that all the replies are assuming that im a jealous normie taking cheap shots at oppressed nerds bc i wish i was as special as them, but i regret to inform u that the reason i know all this is bc i grew up in gt programs and am speaking for my past self and a number of people ive known lmao. you can all get mad at me for pointing it out but you're lying through your teeth if you say this never happens.
anywhomst i said this bc i find it absurd that grown adults (yall are clowns for acting like im addressing children in this post lol) will spend so much time uncritically commiserating over how hard we supposedly had it, when we all know damn well that we had it the best of everyone in the whole system because it's set up for our benefit in particular. we never give this much attention to people who got written off as worthless from day one, people who slipped through all the cracks, people who can never complain that the system gave them false expectations because it just always treated them like shit. the fact is that gifted programs get higher funding, better teachers, smaller class sizes, greater opportunities. regardless of your personal baggage with the whole thing, it is absolutely undeniable that we were materially privileged, in ways that often overlap with class and race. this privilege is rarely ever acknowledged, or when it is, it's accompanied by a torrent of sob stories that downplay the reality of it. ultimately though, you could not have been "gifted" unless you had un-"gifted" people to be compared to, whether you did so consciously or not. some of you are still comparing themselves to them years on.
mayhaps this was worded inflammatorily but it's very cringe of u all refuse to think past your main character syndrome for just one second. like im sorry you had a hard time coping with real life lmao i did too ive been there i get. but nowhere did i say this is anyone's own fault so save the traumadumping for your therapist. my point is, if youre well into your 20s and you still identify with the intelligence tests you took in elementary school, it's time to get some fucking perspective.
Huh. That hurt. Probably not a great sign that this struck a nerve.
I think I need to do some introspection.
The kink at pride discourse is just another instance of AFAB disgust towards sexuality among gay men and transfeminine people. There is nothing shameful about the natural functions of the human body. If you're uncomfortable at pride, either shut up and leave or untwist your panties.
Uh... Pardon me, but I've never heard of "AFAB disgust toward [AMAB] bodies" as a discussion and would like to hear more.
I'm AFAB, and I always thought the mild discomfort I held towards PDA was a general prudishness that I needed to get over, not a queer-related societal problem.
Uh... I guess my prudishness could be unrelated to queer prejudice, but even if that were true, it's good to be aware of potential pitfalls even if you're not currently stuck in one.
So yeah... Tell me more about disgust of MLM sexuality and/or transfeminine sexuality?
As the coronavirus overwhelmed Europe, the occupied building became the unlikely hub of an impromptu aid-distribution effort.
The McDonaldās restaurant in the 14th district of the southern French city of Marseille has been closed for more than a year, yet it has rarely been busier.
On a recent Sunday, workers hurried through the kitchen corridors, passing storage rooms with raw meat hanging from the ceiling and stacked potato boxes lining the walls. Above the counter, illuminated panels featured the McDonaldās menu.
But no one behind the counter was wearing the companyās uniforms. The grills and deep fryers were shrouded. The menu was out of date.
Outside, a car screeched to a halt near the drive-through window, where the screens that once welcomed customers were blank.
āIām sorry, this is no longer a McDonaldās,ā a volunteer told the driver. He pointed at the McDonaldās logo on the wall, which had been rearranged to read ālāaprĆØs M,ā or āthe After M.ā
āThis is a food bank now,ā he said.
In December 2019, the McDonaldās was on the verge of shuttering when its employees took the keys and occupied it. Months later, as the coronavirus overwhelmed Europe, the building became the unlikely hub of an impromptu aid-distribution effort.
Still illegally occupied, it has become a symbol of the social and economic rifts that the pandemic has deepened in France.

tbh the best way that i explain to other people what it feels like to live with an anxiety disorder is the one time when i had to get a fingerprint and background check done for a job and i, someone who has never received so much as a speeding ticket my whole life, spent thirty minutes panicking that i would fail because i might secretly be a criminal and have no ideaĀ
this is the exact response that mass surveillance and the threat of state violence are intended to produce. interpreting it as an individual pathology is only possible for people privileged enough to be certain they will never actually have to deal with the ramifications of police brutality or the tsa, both of which do in fact target ālaw-abidingā people in addition to ācriminals.ā please think critically about the implications of dismissing these fears as not only misplaced but diagnosably so.
literally this isnt āliving with an anxiety disorderā itās just living with policing
Good.
Oh no! Lemme go cry into all of the stickers that say "abolish the police" that just so *happen* to be stuck around my area. Stickers that are totally a joke, and that I had nothing to do with.
*looks around* you hear that, NSA or FBI or whatever? It's a joke! I'm only ironically spreading leftist propaganda! I'm only ironically contributing to bail funds for BLM protesters. I'm actually like, totally upset about people quitting a career where they feel no compunctions about pepper spraying handcuffed children, or pushing an old man to the ground and watching him bleed out, or murdering a man in broad daylight over a "counterfeit" $20 bill, or-
Posts that be like āIf I were a monster that had to eat people, i would just eat horrible people~ā are so absurd to me. How often do you see Known Criminals on the street? Billionaires out for a nightly stroll around town? Effectively fucking never. If I have to drag myself to the grocery store, you think itās gonna be any easier for me to hunt Bezos and Co. every time my stomach growls? I canāt bother to plan meals more than a day in advance, how am i gonna perform whole ass detective work to confirm someoneās a serial killer before i eat them? Yaāll got that much time on your hands? Planning 5 course meals every night of the week? Donāt make me laugh. Eat a pedestrian and tragically wrestle with guilt like the rest of us, idiot.
Experienced people eater weighing in with the most galaxy brain option
Wouldn't they just be eating pork?
I think white people should not be allowed to consider themselves anti racist activists because honestly thatās giving yāall more credit than you deserve.
For real, I cannot tell you how many times Iāve gotten into it with white self proclaimed āanti racist activistsā that didnāt even know what unconscious bias is and what it looks like and found issue with me saying āall white people are inherently racistā like thatās not a thing actual anti racist activists of color have been saying for decades with research to back it up lmao.
So Iām gatekeeping this term now. Yāall are not anti racist activists, yāall are just engaging in and learning from anti racism efforts that are put together by actual anti racist activists (aka the poc educating your asses).

reminder that in the U.S. it is perfectly normal for police officers to randomly arrest people for no reason, because this is an easy way to make obscene amounts of overtime pay. these arrests destroy lives and careers, and steal an insane amount of money away from education, infrastructure, and social services.
Gut the police budget like the swollen parasite it is.
So, Microsoft is terrible. Yes yes, the oldest claim in the world.
But specifically⦠I just hate how Windows 10 tries to conflate and confuse web searches with things on oneās own computer. The start menu should never do anything related to web-searching, especially if it purports to try to give examples of things that are on my hard drive!
This will make old, computer-illiterate people more malware-vulnerable. You have to maintain a strong distinction between āthings that are on this computer (and maybe even included in Windows)ā (safe, one hopes, or you already got pwned by it, probably), and āthings on the webā (scary, dangerous, not to be trusted at all).
Eroding that barrier in the UI is awful. It just FEELS like a violation every time I start typing into the start bar, and it tries to show me ANYTHING web-related. My computer is NOT just an internet-portal! It has tons of stuff on it, and when Iām interacting with the OS, I ONLY want to see things that are already on here!
If I wanted to see something online, I would go to my browser! All the online stuff should be segregated into the browser!
Specific programs can access the internet; thatās fine. But my OSās functions and interface should JUST be about the things that are already on my computer.
#someone in the notes mentioned shut up windows 10.

i havenāt used this myself but iāll be looking into it
Literally spent multiple hours lobotomizing my Windows reinstall when I upgraded recently, the amount of awful shit they had in nowadays makes me long for the age of win98, when software was merely bad, rather than actively harmful.
the exact setting in shutup10 for this issue is āDisable extension of Windows 10 search with Bingā itās at the very bottom under misc.
With hopes that @inthroughthesunroof and @mx-delta-juliette might find this useful especially.
Oh thank GOD, that feature has been driving me batshit for ages
Services.msc thereās so much you can outright disable that is not only more secure, but less hard on your system and frees up resources.
Disable remote access, disable windows auto search and cortana. Disable biometrics if your computer doesnāt even have the technology. Itās your system and thereās lots of resources online that will tell you what you can safely disable and what services it might effect.
Can I vent for a second on how much I LOATHE Chromebooks? A friend of mine in highschool had a Chromebook and asked me to maybe help her put Minecraft (I think) on it.
The damn computer had no discernible way to download anything or store anything on the computer or run any program that was not connected to the internet.
I was so pissed on her behalf. I felt like she'd been completely ripped off. I wanted to go to Google an sucker punch whoever thought that shit up.

I think a lot about gaining weight as a form of healing
Character: gets a lil bit fat after a life of hardships
Me: groundbreaking incredible life changing
Character: *gets fatter as a visual indicator that they have let their life collapse / they have let their skills erode and are less powerful than they were before / they have become lazy and complacent*
Me: no! bad!
Character: *gets fatter as a visual indicator that they are allowing themself to enjoy things / they are no longer experiencing previous hardships and dangers / they are generally happier*
Me: YEAH!!!!!
And itās a real thing in real life! This is a real trend that happens to real people and happened to me!!! I was sick for eight months straight and felt the aftereffects for two years after that, lost a shit ton of weight, was told how great I looked and that it was incredible how I wasnāt fatter considering what I ate. (I had no ability to stomach food at the time and was eating almost purely starches and sugars just to get the calories I needed. It still wasnāt enough.)
Then, after months of this, I was finally getting better and I was eating more and I was putting on the weight Iād lost and I felt great, I felt like I had my body back.
And the same people who told me I looked great - the doctors whoād been unable to help (it was a real-hard-to-detect bitch of a disease) and the adults whoād taken care of me as best they could and some of the friends I had - all told me I should work to lose it. Go back to the weight I was while sick and work to stay there.
And, like, are you kidding?! I hated being that weight! I heard about how skinny I was so much I literally associated (and still do) being skinny with being sick because it was all anyone would goddamn talk about! I lost weight so fast I didnāt feel connected to my fucking body anymore and I talked about it, no less. How could anyone look at what Iād just been through, listen to me talk about what Iād just been through, and still say to my fucking face that I should eat less so Iād lose weight?
After a disease that literally made it almost impossible to eat enough to get through the day.
I love my chub. I have thick thighs and arm fat and a sizeable stomach and a double chin and I love it. I weigh so much more than I did when my entire life was nothing but being sick. Literally, the day I realized I was putting on weight again I cried from happiness, and I will never understand the people who told me I was worse off for it, and I will always celebrate when people are able to thrive enough to be fatter than they were when things were bad.
TL;DR, let people not only be fat and happy, not only fat because they are happy - also let people be happy because they are fat.
when someone tells me I should "trim some fat", I'm always like uh, no, I worked extremely hard to get that fat and i'm proud of it! i was so severely underweight most of my life, and now I have actual padding. it means i'm thriving! belly fat my beloved <3
My depression has made it so I've been barely able to keep myself fed, hydrated, medicined, and hygiened for well over a year. I'm losing weight- mostly because I'm so "meh" most of the time that I forget to/don't feel like eating. I'm losing weight- slowly thank goodness- and my parents and doctor are thrilled by my weight change.
Like, no! This is alarming! My normal is to gain weight no matter what I do! Something is seriously wrong with me!
Besides, I spent the entirely of my adolescence feeling extremely insecure about my fatness. In the past couple of years I finally accepted my body as it is and to be congratulated for being depressed enough to lose weight that I'd worked so hard to be okay with...
I know they're trying to be nice, and I know that my parents haven't internalized that depression=>weight loss. I also know that our culture puts a huge emphasis on being skinny. I can't expect everyone to be able to just disregard a lifetime of being told that skinny is always better.
May 13, 2021 - Immigration cops tried to arrest two men in Glasgow, Scotland, on the day of Eid. A huge crowd of locals in the area of Pollokshields, chanting āthese are our neighbours, let them go!ā, turned up and boxed the police van in for seven hours, withstanding attempts by police to break through the crowd, until the cops were forced to let the two men go. [video]/[article]
WHAT A FUCKING RESULT!!!
Yes Kenmuir street! Damn I miss living in the South Side
If you see an immigration van anywhere in Glasgow, the number to phone is 0141 427 7992

āIt is the secret scandal of capitalism that at no point has it been organized primarily around free labor. The conquest of the Americas began with mass enslavement, then gradually settled into various forms of debt peonage, African slavery, and āindentured serviceā-that is, the use of contract labor, workers who had received cash in advance and were thus bound for five-, seven-, or ten-year terms to pay it back. Needless to say, indentured servants were recruited largely from among people who were already debtors. In the 16oos there were at times almost as many white debtors as African slaves working in southern plantations, and legally they were at first in almost the same situation, since in the beginning, plantation societies were working within a European legal tradition that assumed slavery did not exist, so even Africans in the Carolinas were classified, as contract laborers. Of course this later changed when the idea of āraceā was introduced. When African slaves were freed, they were replaced, on plantations from Barbados to Mauritius, with contract laborers again: though now ones recruited mainly in India or China. Chinese contract laborers built the North American railroad system, and Indian ācooliesā built the South African mines. The peasants of Russia and Poland, who had been free landholders in the Middle Ages, were only made serfs at the dawn of capitalism, when their lords began to sell grain on the new world market to feed the new industrial cities to the west. Colonial regimes in Africa and Southeast Asia regularly demanded forced labor from their conquered subjects, or, alternately, created tax systems designed to force the population into the labor market through debt. British overlords in India, starting with the East India Company but continuing under Her Majestyās government, institutionalized debt peonage as their primary means of creating products for sale abroad.ā
