I fucking LOVE when Scotty stands up for Spock whenever a crew member is being too hard on him, specifically watched 1x16 where Spock's logical command has been questioned by everyone (except Scotty who's been silently working on repairing their vessel) and one argues with Spock in context of the crewman wanting to bury his friend but Spock says they have to leave the body behind and the crewman calls Spock a machine and Scotty stands up all angry and says "that's enough!" LOOOVE

This arc needs to be studied under a microscope because now that I've dealt with a wealth of upsetting relationship issues in various forms this whole storyline reads as more of a master class in bad relationship management than a real love triangle 😭 If you're a natural "fixer" of a person like Helen is, it's extremely hard to turn that instinct off, and you're going to believe at first that everything can be fixed with the right amount of love and effort. There's this deep, unconscious desire to fix everything that coexists with this even deeper unconscious knowledge that it can't be fixed, and both sides are constantly at war. Until, hopefully, you heal enough to realize that the deeper knowledge is right, it can't be fixed - not because of a lack of effort on your part, but because the other person isn't meeting you where you're at.

not to turn this into a teslen post lmao but i love how her arc with nikola basically follows the opposite path? like when he first shows up they haven’t seen each other for decades and without helen to balance him out he went a little crazy and decided making zombie vampires was a good idea, but the more time he spends with helen and the sanctuary gang the better he’s able to manage his more extreme qualities, especially in season four when he makes an effort to reach out to henry after henry poked his conscience about working for sciu, and when he shows up in the finale he doesn’t even have any kind of agenda or mischief to get up to, he’s just there to pout sgshdgshdhfjfkfk. apart from his first episode, whenever he and helen argue it still feels like they’re on the same page about it in a weird way, and i think part of that is bc unlike with john helen isn’t trying to fix nikola, just protect him from himself sometimes, so even when they’re technically on opposite sides they’re still working with each other instead of against each other.
