I’m trying to get a surgery on September 3rd to finally address a jaw joint that eroded out of existence five years ago due to longterm injuries I sustained when being gaybashed in college seventeen years ago. It greatly affects my quality of life, chronic pain, vision problems, headaches, nerve flare-ups, vertigo, etc, and means I’m unable to do work other than what I can do as a freelancer from home, and having no family as a resource, I’ve had to use just what I can get from working best I can 24/7 and donation aid from tumblr to get by for the past five years, while saving up and working towards this surgery.

The 21K surgery itself is paid for, prosthetic is built and I’ve just been constantly delayed in getting it for the past year and a half. First the pandemic resulted in a lot of delays and postponements, but as my condition has continued to deteriorate, by the time I was able to book a reliable surgical date, I’ve found myself repeatedly unable to make it….since each time it comes around I haven’t had enough money to work as a buffer for the month of bedrest and a wired shut jaw, liquid diet, etc, that will be part of my recovery period. Aside from rent, food and cellphone, my only expenses, I have to shell out $800 a month for my pricey as hell insurance that’s the only reason the surgery doesn’t cost six figures, and that I can’t afford to lose before the surgery without getting slapped with an additional hundred thousand in everything from anesthetic to hospital fees for while I have to stay for observation. I’ve had to personally cancel or postpone the last three surgical dates, and so anything and everything to help me build up a buffer before this one, so I can actually MAKE it, is really needed and beyond appreciated. If I can’t make this one, there is theoretically another slot in October I might be able to snag, and I literally have no choice but to keep trying to make this happen until it does, and it only gets harder and harder each month in the meanwhile, so again…..literally any dollar amount helps me make this finally actually happen. 

I’m hesitant to ask for a specific amount because to be honest, I can’t guarantee for sure what that is, since living day to day with a lot of ongoing medical drama means stuff constantly pops up that I wasn’t expecting or planning for and I have to divert funds to take care of that, and also I do worry that sometimes when people see large amounts on donation posts they figure the goal is unlikely to ever actually be met and so they save their money for one they feel more confident they can actually make a different? Idk. There’s really no science or guarantees when making these kind of posts, just a weird mix of desperation and hope, so for now I’m just saying honestly, any amount goes directly to getting me through a month of recovery, whether that’s September or ends up being October, and can make a difference. There was basically an entire year there where I probably lived off $3 a day food-wise, so never discount the possibility that a $3 donation can be enough to get someone through the day. But yeah, its taken a lot of effort to get to this point and I’m running on fumes and have been for a good long while tbh, and I really really would like to keep this particular finish line in sight before it vanishes and ends up tacking on another three or four months to this, where I’ll only get worse in the meanwhile.
