it’s interesting that we see again and again people try to comfort mel about her deposition and never hit the mark. santos, robby, al-hashimi, and now mohan telling mel to just ignore the deposition and that she’ll be fine. i genuinely cannot wait for when someone actually says the right thing to comfort mel. someone who understands her (or is trying to) and knows that saying “this happens to all EM doctors” and “you’ll be fine” isn’t actually helpful when mel’s integrity as a doctor is being called into question. (perhaps that someone has had their integrity as a doctor questioned over and over in the last 10 months. has even had to defend their medical decision making to an authority figure on that very same day). i don’t think mel even really knows what she needs to hear but i have a gut feeling someone will figure it out anyway.

dear reader is a CRAZY song when you think about it. I am so rotten that you can’t even trust my words about my own life. I am alone, and it’s entirely my fault. my house is empty. I have no comfort or warmth. I desperately tried to escape my own life, and I ended up all alone.

One of life's great ironies is that almost everyone who makes the active decision to not have kids would probably be way better at raising a child than all the people who just kind of have children because it's what they think everyone is supposed to do

Like genuinely if you're like "I don't want kids because of the financial strain/the commitment/the irritation I would feel/the possibility of traumatizing them/whatever reason" you instantly demonstrate to me that you 1) understand the realities of parenthood and 2) believe that children should be treated with at least a base level of respect and compassion. Meanwhile everyone who's like "I want kids because I don't want to be alone" "I can't wait to dress up my babies" "I won't raise my children to be soft" may as well be talking about Neopets for all the fucks they seem to give about kids

I think it's sad how so much of us project our own self-hatred and perfectionism onto God. We conflate our own critical voice with His. I think God would be happy if all we managed to do was get out of bed today, or if we could only do the absolute minimum. I think He would be pleased with all our efforts, even if they seemed small, even if they're not "the best". If all you're doing each day is what you can do, then God sees your efforts and will help you along the way. God loves us even if all we can do is the bare minimum, because His love isn't contingent on our actions. We can feel safe putting aside all perfectionism and just trying the best we are able to do, even if it's something seemingly small and insignificant.
