confetti falls and family cheer, you and simon walk out hand in hand out of the church, smiling at the beginning of a new chapter together. newly married, together for life.
as the family and friends gather, they stare and clap. smiling and expressing joy with yelling and hoots. some take photos, on their phones to digital cameras, with bright flashes almost every second.
simon didn't want a large wedding. he'd even prefer a private ceremony at town hall, but he knew how important this was to you—so you compromised. he'll let you throw a wedding, but it can only have less than thirty people. you agreed, because whats a wedding where neither of you are truly happy with the conditions?
but as the flashes begin to feel like they are assaulting his skin, sting at his eyes, does he begin to feel his blood run cold and his skin become scratchy. like a dog, he begins to deflate, shying away and trying to become small under the many eyes that look at the both you.
he's not embarrassed—he knows how radiant you look in your pretty white dress—but this is just something he'd not comfortable with yet. everyone staring at him, without even the protection of his mask. it's him, and it's you too, vulnerable and public.
but even on your big day, you don't let yourself become blinded with the flashing of lights and sparkling confetti. you notice your now husband's stutter in his step, his tightening hold on your hand, the way his head is lowered away from the cameras. but he still tries, for you. because he knows how important this is for you.
he got a haircut by a professional, had himself preened and groomed by his friends and now he is trying to make more of an effort in from of the cameras to smile more visibly, something he's also not accustomed to.
so many things at once, people, talking, flashes of lights, being exposed to all of them, it makes his world spin but his world stops straight when you turn to him and hold your hands up to his shoulders, kissing him softly on the jaw. the family continue to take photos, in awe of this young love, but you stay cool.
you grab onto your veil, long and decorated with rosegold floral details, and drag it back over your head. simon become's confused for a split second, he did take off your veil to officate the marriage, but he blinks rapidly as confusion is directed to you veiling both you and simon. from everyone.
the flashes become muted, and even though the lace is thin and he most definitely can still hear everyone, his world becomes quiet and slow. it's just you and him, a veil separating you both from the rest of them.
simon calms, dragging his fingertips over the embroidery of your dress and staring over your features. he finds himself particularly fixated on your eyes, that are emphasized by the mascara and eyeliner you wear. beautiful and sweet.
he uses his new benefit as husband to kiss you, feverishly, for even on a day he believes is supposed to be all about you, do you still think of him amongst the chaos and excitement.
he certainly must be blessed to have you.
