I practice a lifestyle I call "stupid hedonism" where instead of axting to.maximize my pleasure I mostly just do wharver j want and then face the consequences :/
Idk how many young people are still on tumblr but as a college academic advisor please listen to me: it is fine to drop out of college. Itβs great even. You can drop out of college if that is what is best for you. However. Please. For the love of god, actually drop your classes. Go to the registrar/your advisor/your student portal/whatever and withdraw from your classes. Do not just stop attending. If you just stop showing up, you will fail all of the classes youβre enrolled in. This will tank your GPA, and if you ever decide you want to go back to school for a specific career, those Fs will come back to bite you. My college program is fairly lenient for our field (healthcare) and still we have to turn away a bunch of students who donβt have a 2.5 GPA, and the reason is that they attended half a semester of college in 2000, dropped out without withdrawing, and ended up with a 0.0 GPA and 16 credits. Itβs very tough to recover from that. Even if you think youβll never go to college, please just withdraw from those classes. Depending on when you withdraw, you may still have to pay for them, but at least there will be a little W transcript that will save your GPA.
do you care more about helping the world improve or about being morally superior
Obviously these things literally one and the same anon.
You canβt choose to forgo bettering the world to instead be morally superior. Because morality means doing the right thing.
It kind of fucks with me that somebody killed ΓΆtzi the iceman because ΓΆtzi himself is like whatever but the silent presence of human hands that drew back the string of the bow that shot the arrow that killed him is crazy. the idea that there were various people involved in that situation and while one of them has had his last hours painstakingly reconstructed and studied to no end, the others now only exist insofar that an arrowhead had to get into his shoulder somehow. imagine killing someone and then suddenly your entire existence is only a vague shadow implied by the fact that you killed them. much to consider
Testing the mummified bone marrow of ΓΆtzi to figure out his ancestry whole time thereβs definitely another person, maybe more than one, standing in the room with us but I can never see or speak to them because I only know them through the assurance that they were there too in the form of one single arrowhead. I hate prehistory so much itβs unreal

Video dell'anno per distacco
talking about a movie with someone who also hated it: yeah man that shit fucking blows, you'd have to be lesser than a dog to enjoy it
talking about same movie with someone who enjoyed it: i dont think it quite reached the heights that it was reaching for
Love the idea of Putin thinking, βShit, I gotta make small talk. What would the leader of China be into? Immortality, right? Are they still into immortality?β
How could you leave this in the tags???

Kind of a Reddit AITA post but sometimes it is a little funny to fuck with people in ways that deliberately conform to a stereotype of what they must think of you. the other day I was talking to my friend and I randomly said that I wanted a pet chimpanzee. I'd dress it in person clothes (dungarees and hats) and I'd teach it to love science fiction. And this girl nearby was like "you know how dangerous those things are, right? Also how unethical it is to keep an ape as your pet for your own amusement" and I was already seeing where the conversation was going so I was pretending ignorance like "yea but it wouldn't just be for my amusement. It would have practical points too." And she ignored that statement entirely to say "Well chimpanzees can rip faces off" and I was like. What's the most frustrating thing I can say now. Finally settled on "Mine wouldn't do that though." and you could tell she wanted to hurt me very very badly. Like a chimpanzee would if I had one as a pet
I'm literally so normal. People often come up to me on the street and say "wow, you're so normal it's incredible, how can I become as normal as you?" And I say "I'm sorry I cannot help you, it simply comes naturally to me, I don't even have to try" and they walk away disappointed. And my normal heart aches for them
I feel like I will, at some point, have an essay in me about queer identity, but like not really in the conventional way. I sometimes think that "queer culture" has all of these connotations of colorfulness, joy, gaiety, and just really a permeating sense of silliness that comes with some conceptual bond that was forged between camp and homosexuality sometime in the 20th century. There might be a thread somewhere in here on how camp "ironic" bad taste created an opening for (maybe under the cultural moment of "new sincerity") the kind of cross-pollination between fandom and queerness that is most clearly articulated on this website. And I often think there are historical expressions of queerness that are, for me, more resonant in part because they don't identify themselves with faddishness or youthfulness. And I think there's some kind of like hermeneutical-injustice-flavored thing to say here about needing to construct sexual orientation or gender expression for yourself before you can understand yourself in those terms.
Queer sex and gender was always going to drift towards camp, though. It's a necessary conjunction.
It's precisely because queer identity is distinguished by the need to construct an understanding of one's own self; the opposite of "queer" is "familiar." Pretty much tautologically, we're not in a position to accept the standard narratives uncritically, or to follow the usual paths in the usual way. As such, there's a necessary creative component to any queer identity.
And the thing about creativity is, people kind of suck at it by default? Creative self-expression is a skill (or a lot of skills, maybe), and like any learning process, the early stages are awkward, inconsistent, and often quite embarrassing. And queer people tend to have very diverse origins; there's no way to cultivate an inter-generational culture that makes young queer people especially good at this.
In other words, a queer community is a place where a lot of people are awkwardly engaged in a critically important act of creative self-expression; they're building themselves in a very real way, and a lot of them are going to be doing it rather badly. These communities depend on having a script and a culture that's permissive of these mistakes, and gives young people the space to get the dumb stuff out of the way while they're learning.
Camp is a face-saving way to celebrate low-skill creative work, jumping back and forth situationally between irony and sincere appreciation. Not the only way, maybe, but probably the most obvious and the most accessible. It's a fantastic tool for making the construction of identity feel safe, accessible, and welcoming in a community that otherwise can't make too many assumptions about the background of its members.
To be honest this four panel comic changed my life at one point in its sheer simplicity and incisive critique of the obnoxious Temporarily Embarrassed Vivziepops and I think more people need to like understand the value in this very basic analysis.
Valuable and relevant addition, thank you!

remember, it's imperative to turn your aesthetic preferences into moral ones. you can't just dislike neutral colors, or glass-and-steel skyscrapers, or flat design, they have to be symbols of neoliberal capitalism in decay. it's incredibly important that you make sure everybody knows that the only reason anyone could like the things you don't like is that they're an empty shell of a person.
