Rewatching the first hour of episode 1 and the Hal/Thaisha dynamic really is so excellent immediately. There is clearly so much love and comfort between them. But there is also lingering awkwardness. The closest he comes to indulging his own grief is sagging in her arms. She keeps holding him as he goes to pull away. But as soon as she starts to direct the conversation toward what happened, he directs her to Shadia. She feels the need to ask if it's ok for her to stay. Her room is already ready.
I feel like they manage to build such a deeply warm relationship that also feels nuanced and complicated and a little fragile in the best ways in just two scenes. I love it so much!
