Emergency cleaning: Unfuck your whole house in the shortest time possible
So, your landlord/parents/home inspector/favorite movie star is dropping by, and your place is a disaster. You donāt have much time to clean it up. Youāre in emergency mode. Letās get started.
Donāt panic. Panic leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to the dark side. You can do this, but you have to stay calm.
Unlike maintenance cleaning, weāre not looking to completely unfuck one space at a time. Instead, we want to decrease the overall mess in stages, spread evenly across the whole area that weāre concerned about. If you think your home is at Level 10 filth, we want to bring the whole thing down to a Level 9, and then down from there. One really clean spot in an otherwise messy home is not going to be helpful here.
Get prepared. Youāll want to shut the computer down (or turn the modem off if you need your computer to play music). Trust me. Get your music going. Gather up trash bags, your vacuum and mop, some rags or paper towel, sponges, and other cleaning supplies. Use what you have on hand. Donāt get distracted running to the store and spending an hour browsing cleaning supplies. A multi-purpose cleaning concentrate or a jug of vinegar will be just fine.
Breaks are very important. Depending on your time constraints, work in 20/10s (20 minutes working, 10-minute break) or 45/15s. But take breaks because otherwise youāre marathoning, and marathon cleaning is no oneās friend. Keep hydrated, donāt forget to eat, and check in with yourself frequently to make sure youāre physically doing OK.
Make your bed. This will be your home base if you get overwhelmed or need somewhere clear to take a break.
Start with the garbage. Going from room to room, throw out anything that is obvious trash. Once you fill a bag, take it out. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Move on to dishes. Gather the dishes from all over your house and bring them to the kitchen. If you can, start them soaking in a sink of hot, soapy water or start loading the dishwasher. After the dishes are all in one place, spend one 20/10 getting started getting them under control.
Now itās time for your flat surfaces. Countertops, tables, dresser tops, etc. Clear them off and wipe them down. Donāt get distracted in too much sorting and organizing. Weāre in crisis mode here. There will be time to get in-depth once this is all done. The same applies to cabinets and closets. Unless you have reason to believe people will be opening closed doors, leave these alone for now.
Attack the floordrobe and shoe pile. Get your clothes either put away or in the hamper. Start a load of laundry if you need to, but keep in mind that laundry and dishes have three steps: wash, dry, and put it away, goddammit!
Get random stuff up off the floors. If something is trash-worthy, throw it away now rather than just move it around a bunch of times. Otherwise, put stuff where it belongs.
Take another 20/10 or 45/15 to catch up on more dishes, if needed.
Head into the bathroom. Pour some cleaner in the toilet bowl, fill the sink with hot water and cleaner, and either spray the tub and shower with cleaner, or fill the tub up with some hot water and add cleaner and let it soak. Put everything away thatās out and shouldnāt be, clean the mirror, counters, and toilet seat. Sweep or dry mop the floor. Wipe down the sink and tub/shower, and give the toilet bowl a scrub. Mop the floor.
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Vacuum everything you can, and sweep everything you canāt.
Walk outside of your house (donāt lock yourself out, please). Walk back in and see what catches your eye first. Go and deal with that.
If youāre being inspected or your landlord is coming in for repairs, spend time on whatever area theyāll be focusing on.
Give the whole place one more once-over and pay attention to anything youāve missed so far.
Itās an old trick, but if your place is a little funky-smelling, put a pan of water on the stove on low heat and add some citrus or cinnamon or vanilla. Donāt leave it unattended or forget about it.
Take a shower, put on something clean, and eat something.
You can do this. Itās overwhelming, yes, but it is not impossible. You just need to do it. You have a list. You have directions. You have a whole bunch of Internet strangers who have been there before and who are cheering you on. You can do this, but you need to get started.
Why are you still here? GO. START. NOW.
the number of times in my past that I desperately wanted/needed someone to sit me down and tell me this stuff. I will never get back the hours and hours lost to headless-chicken mode, but itās nice to know that in the last year Iāve learned so many coping mechanisms :D
List of anime series/movies with unique art styles.
For my friends on tumblr, in case you guys want something to watch, hereās a quick list of anime series/movies with unusual/unique art styles that you may or may not know.
Kaiba
With an artstyle reminiscent of the original Astro Boy, Kaiba has a very simplistic (yet stylized) and fluid style of animation and art. The story revolves around the titular character, who wakes up with a hole in his chest with no idea of who he is. I enjoyed this a lot for the art, music and characters, who all have realistic motivations and ideals, as well as the themes handled in it; such as what definesĀ ābeing humanā when bodies and memories are as disposable as plastic. Genre: Sci-Fi, Psychological Drama
Redline
In terms of sheer action and excitement I got from watching a movie, Iāve got to say that Redline is one of the best ever in those departments. With a highly stylized comic-book-esque art style with a high influence from Western comics like Dick Tracy (with the emphasis on black shadows on solid colours and thick black outlines), this show is extremely fluidly animated, the movie is said to consist of 120 000 hand-drawn frames, taking seven years to complete. The movie follows the story of racer JP (akaĀ āSweetā JP, because of his refusal to use weaponry while racing) trying to win (and survive) the titular Redline, a race consisting of multiple racers from multiple different galaxies and planets. Genre: Racing, Sci-Fi, Action
Mononoke
Every frame of this anime could be screencapped and slapped onto someoneās dashboard for their aesthetic. That is how distinct the art style and character design of this show is. The show uses a form ofĀ āplaid animationā, where something willĀ be animated over a still color or object as it moves, creating most of the time a jarring effect that is usually the sign of a lazy animator, however in Mononoke, the show utilizes the art to create a sense of a surreal, dream-like environment, intentionally focusing on the jarring effect. The art and design of the environment is also extremely ornate and beautiful. The show focuses on the story of the unknown Medicine Seller and his travels through Japan (in an unknown time period), killing spirits and creatures known as Mononoke. However, he cannot do so until he learns their Form, Truth and Reasoning/Regret, which leads to some very interesting lessons at the end of each story. Genre: Mystery, Horror
Dead Leaves
Another comic-influenced movie, and just barely under an hour too;Ā Dead Leaves is an extremely fun, hyper-action-packed movie with amazing character design (almost EVERY good character in this movie has a unique design, barring the civilains and generic bad guy cannon fodder), driven by slapstick, humor (usually of the sexual kind) and more pop culture references than you can digest within the time span theyāre thrown at you. The story focuses on criminals Retro and Pandy; Retro having a TV instead of a head, and Pandy having a panda-like marking on her eye, who, shortly after waking up on the moon and causing havoc on a nearby planet, are imprisoned in a super-jail. Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi
Kuuchuu Buranko / Welcome to Irabuās Office
Combining rotoscoped 3D, 2D animation and live action elements, Kuuchuu Buranko is an extremely surreal look into the world of psychiatry. The art and designs were created by the lead artist of Mononoke, Kenji Nakamura. But whereas Mononoke had some subtlety to its art, this show is bright, colourful and neon as all hell. The show focuses on Dr. Ichiro Irabu and how he helps his patients with their problems, who are all connected in some way or the other. Genre:Ā Comedy, Psychological Drama
The Tatami Galaxy
With a bright visual style that also manages to be subtle at the same time, The Tatami Galaxy also utilizes not just its art as a device for story telling, but the form of the show itself to convey its messages. I canāt spoil too much about the show, but I can give you this: if you enjoy the first episode, please watch it to completion, as this show basically requires the viewer to watch the show in its entirety. The story focuses on an unnamed protagonist, commonly referred to as Watashi by the showās fans, who tries to attain the ārose-tintedā college life style he has desired for his whole life, as well as all the challenges he faces on the way. With fast-paced dialogue, a lot of humor, interesting character and background designs, as well as the various forms of ācharacterizationā, and also the themes tackled by this show, Iād say itās one of my favorite shows of all time. Genre:Ā Slice of Life, Comedy, Drama, Psychological, Sci-Fi
Mind Game
Mind Game. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa (also the director behind The Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba and Ping-Pong). I donāt think words can do this movie justice, but Iāll try. Imagine a combination of 3D-morphing-into-2D, sketches, animated photo images of (presumably) the voice actorās for talking, extremely smooth and fluid movement, plus an insane amount of exaggeration, all coupled with a huge range of bright and dark colours and youāve got Mind Gameās animation style down somewhat. Go look up more GIFs, theyāll help you understand the range of styles this surreal (and extremely fun) movie goes through. The plot follows Nishi, a down-on-his-luck, 20-years-old manga writer, running into his childhood crush Myon. He discovers sheās getting married soon while theyāre talking inside her fatherās restaurant. After that (plus another key event), the craziness in the movie begins; Nishi having a new-found desire to live life. Genre:Ā Comedy, Surrealism,Ā
Tekkonkinkreet
Tekkonkinkreet, although similar in appearance to some Masaaki Yuasa works, was not made by the man himself (although, it was made by the company, Studio 4°C,Ā that helped produce Mind Game). This movie has incredibly detailed backgrounds, similar to a Studio Ghibli film, with amazing usage of lighting, camera shots and motion blur as well as a wide variety of colours and shades. The story follows Black and White, two street orphans who call themselves āThe Catsā, trying to keep control of their town from dangerous enemies. Although vastly different in personalities, they support each other emotionally, mentally and physically very well. Genre:Ā Action, Drama, Adventure
The Diary of Tortov Riddle
The Diary of Tortov Roddle, although very short (6 episodes all leading up to 14 minutes! Watch it here! It has three special episodes that are part of the DVD though), is an interesting adventure of a surreal world that seems almost like a moving/animated picture rather than a movie or series. It follows the journey of Tortov Roddle and his pig-steed throughout this world, with just his calm thoughts and experiences. Thereās no dialogue in this series but it doesnāt really require any dialogue at all, the only dialogue being Tortovās journal entries at the beginning and end of each episode. The music, lack of dialogue and artall contribute to a very interesting, mysterious atmosphere. Genre: Fantasy, Surrealism, Adventure
The Tale of Princess Kaguya
Straight outta ComptonĀ Studio Ghibli, The Tale of Princess Kaguya is anĀ adaption of one of the staples of traditional Japanese folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. This film adapts the ancient story of the young princess who grew out of a bamboo shoot and breathes fresh new life into it while still staying 100% true to the source material. The art can only be described as absolutely gorgeous, using a pale colour palette in a constantly shifting style that recalls the ancient Japanese watercolour paintings that the original story was recorded on.
Genre:Ā Fantasy, Drama
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Oh man this show. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows the story of Nozomu Itoshiki, an overdramatic teacher so pessismistic about everything that he would try committing suicide over pretty much the smallest inconvenience (hisĀ name, when its Japanese characters are read horizontally, also translates intoĀ āDespairā) and his bizarre homeroom studentsā antics. The series parodies almost everything there is to satrize in Japanese culture (the show even parodies itself from time to time with casual 4th wall-breaking from every show), as well as the general media and politics of the world, as well as having an insane amount of references to various things regardless of fame; from Gundam, Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, to Franz Kafka, Edward Gorey and South Park. The artās very minimal (which itself gets parodied later on in the series), but it, uh, changes a lot, to put it simply.
Genre: Comedy, Parody
Ping-Pong
(gotta lot of requests to list this one)
Sports anime tends to always get a bad rep amongst anime fans for various reasons, whether it be that the viewer gets tired of seeing another Dempsey Roll, or the amount of reused frames in the series, theyāre all understandable. And so comes Ping-Pong to shatter those preconceptions of what a sports anime can be. Focusing rather on the characters, their emotions and development rather than the titular game that the animeās based on (unlike most sports anime), this coming-of-age show following two boys as they (one actually) strive to become the best table tennis players in the world, is directed by none other than Masaaki Yuasa, who has directed a lot of the shows and movies on this list actually, with his trademark style of not having a trademark artstyle (other than wobbly simple lines and psychedelic colours).
Genre: Psychological, Drama, Coming-Of-Age, Sports
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
(im still in the process of watching Gankutusou and Ping-Pong (thanks school) hence why they werenāt in the original post)
GankutsuouĀ is what most people would callĀ āart pornā, as it uses various still textures, colours and patterns within the characterās lineart, similar to Mononoke and Kuuchuu Buranko though to a much greater extent, whileĀ using 3D and 2D animation on the characters and backgrounds. The story is broadly based on the titular story of The Count of Monte Cristo, but with many differences, such as being set in the year 5053, plotlines and character endings being altered/removed, the pacing being changed from the original story, as well as the incorporation of many sci-fi themes. The general aesthetic of the show is that of 19th century France in a highly futuristic setting.
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Supernatural
Kaiji
Based off a popular gambling manga by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, Kaiji follows the story of the titular character, Kaiji Itou, an unemployed slacker who spends his days gambling (and always losing), stealing, drinking and being obsessed with money. He suddenly finds himself 3 million in debt, and is offered the chance to erase all of his debt, and maybe even earn some cash, in one night.
Via gambling.
With thick bold lines, exaggerated expressions and hugely caricaturized faces that woul make more sense in a comedy that all serve as a plus to the show,Ā Kaiji is an intense psychological thriller that always leaves you on the edge of your seat, with some of the most insane and dramatic gambles in any piece of fiction.
Genre: Psychological, Thriller, Gambling
Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt
Two angels, kicked out of Heaven, have been tasked with cleaning up the filthy sin-riddled Daten City, and can only return once theyāve gotten enough Heaven coins!
Not like that matters to Panty and Stocking anyways, whose only cares in the world are what tastes good, much to the chagrin of local priest Garterbelt.
With a ton of American pop culture references, humor that would make South Park seem like a kidās show, action that is so bizarre it canāt even be explained, and an animation style thatās more akin to a cartoon on a huge drug trip than anything else, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt shows that sometimes too much of a good thing is still a good thing.
Genre: Comedy, Action, Parody, Not something to play around Grandma
Jojoās Bizarre Adventure
There really is no other gif that explains and summarizesĀ Jojoās Bizarre Adventure better than this one.
Based off the hugely popular manga by Araki Hirohiko, the show follows the story of the Joestar bloodline. Jojo is unique in that it doesnāt follow one group of characters or main character throughout the entire franchise, but rather a different cast in a different location throughout the world, ranging from 1930s New York, to 1980s Japan, to Egypt and much more.
If Iām being rather vague about describing this rather popular show, I apologize, but there really is no way to properly explain this bizarre series.
With proportions that look like it was ripped straight out of a bodybuilderās magazine, poses that could probably break your spine if even just attempted, and fights that end up being some of the most hype as well as some of the most ridiculous youāll have ever seen, as well as a bright, dramatic colour pallete, this is a show that truly lives up to itsĀ āBizarreā title.
(also protip: start with the 2012 adaption first rather than the 90s OVA, and read the manga.)
Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Mystery

can you make a checklist on how to get into the gorillaz?? It seems like there is a lot out there and its hard to follow when i'm getting into it late.. thank you!!
Sure!! I personally got into them by watching their G-bitez and music videos and it all kinda spiraled from there.
The band itself was made by Damon Albarn (Lead singer of Blur, does vocals and writes lyrics for Gorillaz) and Jamie Hewlett (Co-creator of the comic book āTank Girlā, draws and animates for Gorillaz) after they were both watching MTV and they were like āhey music today sucks you know whatād be cool?? if we made an animated bandā ācool we could call it āgorillaā because we were both born on the year of the monkey!!!ā sadly animal planet had already copyrighted āgorillaā so they just added a z to the end of it to make it cooler.
Hereās a playlist of all of their music videos/unfinished storyboards i put together (theyāre all in order according to the storyline, but keep in mind that ādo ya thingā isnāt canon):Ā https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLupIZC02E6mRz_uqFp8BiLuEZ3-ZUjJZB
Hereās a list of all of their interviews Iāve been able to find (You can learn a lot about the characters from these babies): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLupIZC02E6mT1RKRtEIu2RA4AraQnGnqu
Aaand hereās a list of all of their songs (thereās a bunch). Every one of them sorted from oldest to newest, every song after āWeāve got the powerā is either a demo, rare or unreleased: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLupIZC02E6mTeUgeN3TVDF1kUgM11wlFI
Something to know about Gorillaz is that they have āphasesā. Phase 1 was in 2001, when they released their albums āGorillazā, āG-Sidesā and āLaika come homeā. Phase 1ā²s art style was cartoonish and used very thick lineart. Phase 2 was in 2005, when they released āDemon Daysā and āD-sidesā. Phase 2ā²s art style was a bit dark and looked more realistic. Phase 3 was in 2010, when they released the albums āPlastic Beachā and āThe Fallā in 2011. Phase 3ā²s art style was almost the same as phase 2ā²s. Then we have Phase 4 in 2017, their new album āHumanzā is coming out April 28th. Itās art style is the one that stands out the most to me, you can find most of the art on Jamie Hewlettās Instragram (Hewll)
Alright, a big part of me getting into the fandom was my love fore the characters. Iām assuming youāre not a fan yet, so let me introduce them to you (iām going to use powerpoints to explain each member if u donāt mind):
This lovely lad here is Murdoc Faust Niccals. - Heās the bandās leader/bassist, and he makes sure EVERYONE knows thatās itās his band and only his.- He went through multiple other bands before he formed Gorillaz.- He was born on June 6th, 1966 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. As an infant he was abandoned on his fatherās doorstep.- Had a very rough childhood, his father, Sebastian Niccals, would force him to preform on stage for booze money and it was absolutely humiliating for him. - His nose has been broken a of total 8 times. The first time was from a bully at his school, the 2nd time was from his older (and only) brother, Hannibal, because Murdoc had touched his records.- His middle name was originally āAlphonseā but he changed it to āFaustā after making a deal with the Devil in phase 1 to make Gorillaz the ābiggest band in the worldā. Thatās also how he got his bass, āEl Diabloā. - did i mention he was a satanist bc he is - He hangs around in his underwear a lot (especially in phase 2)- He likes to either get naked or start pelvic thrusting in like every video, so be careful, young anon.- Heās very crude but sometimes he can be very nice and adorable in some interviews ??? Itās so weird- He likes making weird noises, like, a lot.- Apparently can speak French- His reason for turning green all of the sudden in phase 2 is either because of alcohol poisoning or due to him tanning himself green. We really donāt know- He had a pet raven in phase 2!!! His name was Cortez and no one really knows what happened to him but Murdoc seemed to love that bird.- He also had a cape in phase 2 that he loved and wore like all the time but he lost it. Poor baby.- He was based off of a young 1960ā²s era Keith Richards.- He has a tongue longer than Gene Simmonsā and Iām not even kidding. His tongue is like a foot long- His genuine laugh can cure cancer- He had his own MTV cribs episode- Hereās a playlist of every interview heās been in if youād like to know a bit more about how he acts.- All of this sounds horrible but like half of the fandom sees him as charming and funny and the other half sees him as repulsive and downright mean so i guess listen to some of his interviews and make your decision (iām part of the half that loves him)
This is 2D!!- Heās the bandās singer, sometimes he plays the piano and melodica too.- Heās anxious and a bit timid around people. Heās not that intelligent, but heās an absolute sweetheart to pretty much everyone. Heās ⦠a huge dork.- He was born on May 23rd, 1978.Ā He was born in Hertfordshire, England and was raised in Crawley, England. When he was 10 he fell out of a tree and landed on his head, his hair fell out and grew back blue. Heās had horrible headaches since then, but his mother was a nurse and gave pills to help him out.- His real name is Stuart Pot- He loves horror films!!! Especially zombie movies.- Apparently he smells like butterscotch- Heās VERY tall. heās like 6ā²1 and his legs make up most of his body. He towers over the rest of the band.- He has a crippling fear of whales- His eyes are black due to an 8-ball fracture that Murdoc gave him when he crashed his car into the music store 2D worked at.- His eyes turn white when heās stressed or scared.- His nicknameĀ ā2Dā stands forĀ āTwo Dentsā. Heās called that because Murdoc also gave him two dents in his head after crashing his car into him- Murdoc is seen physically abusing 2D sometimes throughout phase 1-3, but thereās a very likely chance that heās going to stop and make amends in phase 4!!!- Hereās a playlist of interviews that heās been in- Everybody loves him. I love him. I donāt think itās possible not to love him.Ā Ā
This is Russel Hobbs!!- Heās the bandās drummer. Ā He helps with remixes too!!!- The living embodiment ofĀ ālooks like he could kill you but is actually a cinnamon rollā- Quite possibly the most underrated character in the world- He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 3rd, 1975. He got possessed by a demon as a kid and fell into a coma for four years. After he woke up the demon got expelled tho- When he was a teen, him and his friends were involved in a drive-by shooting. Russel was the only survivor and all of his friends possessed him, but the only one we really get to see is his closest friend,Ā Del, he raps in Clint Eastwood and Rock the House, but we havenāt seen him since phase 1.Ā - After the whole shooting incident he was sent to the UK to live with his uncle.- HE SAVED 2D FROM BEING EATEN BY A WHALE. HEāS SO UNDERAPPRECIATEDĀ - Heās an actual giant in phase 3 because he ate some radioactive jellyfish- He loves fezzes!!!- His hobby, besides music, is taxidermy.- Heās the dad friend- Hereās a playlist of interviews that heās been in
Last but not least, this is Noodle- She plays guitar for the band- Noodle is very energetic and nice but she can also kick ur ass- She was born in Osaka, Japan on October 31st 1990- She joined the band when she was around 11 but sheās like 26 now. I forgot to mention that the band ages with real time- As a kid she was a part of a classified child super solider project under the management of a japanese scientist named Mr. Kyuzo. this is where she learned how to be badass. She knew professional karate at like 10 how cool is that- All of the children in that project were deemed too unstable and dangerous, so they canceled the experiment and Mr. Kyuzo was ordered to kill all of the children (fuckin dark i know). After killing them all, Mr. Kyuzo was reluctant to kill Noodle, so instead he put her in a state of amnesia and smuggled her to the UK by shipping her to Kong Studios in a FedEx crate.- She didnāt remember anything!!! The only english thing she was able to say to say wasĀ ānoodleā and thatās where she got her name.- She learned how to speak english and remembered her past in phase 2.- Murdoc, 2D and Russel raised her (mostly russel tho). Noodle considers Murdoc and 2D her brothers and Russel considers her his daughter how CUTE IS THAT- She loves Pokemon- She had a flying windmill island in phase 2 it was incredible- She had a cute radio helmet in phase 1Ā - She also has a robot version of herself called āCyborg Noodleā in phase 3. Itās a long story but Cyborg might be coming back for phase 4.- The interviews that sheās in can be found here!!The backstory is too long for me to write down, but you can find it over here!Ā I hope i explained everything clearly- if not, or if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message!! I hope this helps you c:

rapidpunches:
SHORT STORY/ONE-SHOT/ONE CHAPTER/COMICS 101 CRASH COURSE RAPIDPUNCHESā STYLE
Iām NOT an expert but I have some working experience I can share. You need experience to become great. Here is my set of instructions, tips, and notes towards making a 12-page comic.
My method is to work backwards. Personally I work ābackwardsā because the end is the only wholly necessary page or set of panels in the story. Everything in between is open to editing and hacking as the most important moments are emphasized and chosen.
I even plan/draw the end page first. The end is the last page a reader sees- so spend your freshest energies on making it as epic, memorable, poignant, and beautiful as #$%^&.
If you draw the pages from 1 to 12 sequentially you run the risk of fresh to burnt out- an uneven distribution of drawing skill. (treat the first page and the 2-page splash as you would the last).
Roughly⦠the steps to making your comic is
WRITE
PLAN THUMBNAILS
DRAW
ā¦BEGIN THE WRITING (DO NOT SKIP NO MATTER WHAT) like this, in this order:
How does it end?
Does the protag succeed or fail?
What is the turning point of their story?
What the protag do that led them there?
Where does it start?
Who is this protag?
EXAMPLE:
Guy gets mauled by a bear.
This is a fail on the guyās half.
The bear must eat something or heāll starve to death.
Itās the guyās fault the bear canāt find other food. He caused the avalanche that buried all the cabins.
The guy is yodeling in an avalanche zone.
The guy is some guy.
CREATING āTHE BEAT SHEETā Take the above stuff and reorder it to make sense.
This guy yodels.
Echoes roll.
Snow slides down.
Avalanche buries the mountain.
Cabins are engulfed.
This bear has no access to cabin food and garbage.
Bear eats this guy.
Expand. Blow up important beats for emphasis. Keep less important beats brief.
This guy is hiking in the snowy mountains.
He comes across an avalanche warning sign.
There is nobody around but him.
A dumb expression forms over his face and he yodels.
Echoes roll but nothing nearby is moved.
At the top of the mountain the snow drifts twitch.
Guy, satisfied, hikes away from there still yodeling.
Frozen snow cracks.
Snow puffs billow and great slabs of ice crash down the mountain side.
Guy sees this and hightails it to safer ground.
Animals, people, are all panicking and getting pushed over by the rushing snow.
Cabins are destroyed.
The guy takes cover by an outcropping of rocks, fastens himself securely to the rock face, and waits for the avalanche to die down.
Avalanche dies down.
A lone bear shambles over from the other side of the mountain.
The bear goes to where a cabin used to be (only roof tiles are left). Bear sniffs a dish satellite.
Bear forlornly eats a food wrapper.
Bear tries to dig.
Guy comes down from the rocks he as climbing and sees bear.
Bear stops digging and sees him.
Guy runs.
Bear chases him down.
Bear eats the guy.
BEAT SHEET COMPLETED!!!
After the beat sheet, write up all the sound effects and speech bubbles and conversation/dialogue you want to be in your comic.
Since comics are a visual medium, highest priority is given to the beats. If a story canāt be told with the art without the dialogueā you messed up and itās time to rethink your life choices.
Try to keep all your text chunks as short as a tweet. Professionally you donāt want more than 25 words per speech bubble and no more than 250 words per page.
Next is translating the beats to pagesā¦
STRUCTURE OVERVIEW:
[1] point of entry, in media res, hero intro
[2][3] conflict. establish conflict, setting, and mood by the third page. [4][5] rising action/false resolution to conflict/investigation
[6][7] turning point/plot twist/epiphany (this one epic image, to page spread is pivotal, spend a lot of effort into creating this)
[8][9] aftermath/ādarkness before dawnā/struggle [10][11] recovery/ārise and conquerā/āfallā
[12] resolution/final end/cliffhanger
[front cover][interior] [interior][back cover]

My maximum per page is nine panels but Iāve seen pages that have way more. I like to have about 3 to 4 panels per row or less but Iāve seen the ārulesā broken before. Advanced comic book artists manipulate time with the number of panels and the size of each panel.
remember, DIAGONALS!!! open up an issue of batman, superman, spider man, deadpool or whatever youre reading theyre everywhere.

ā¦DRAW IN THIS ORDER:
Page 12,
Page 6 and 7 (this is typically one large image that takes up the space of two pages),
Page 1,
and then the rest.
ONLY āDEVIATIONā ALLOWED:
Page 12 and 1*
Page 6 and 7,
and then the rest.
*Draw the first and last page as a spread in situations where the beginning of the story mirrors the end of the story.
Cover is dead last.

(If at the very end you find out you need more pages and itās absolutely unavoidable and totally necessary you have to add them in fours. Try to stick to 12 pages for this crash course.)

FURTHER NOTES:
Plan and draw the pages in spreads (the twos) since this is how it will appear in print and when you submit them to an editor for review guess what, the pages with an exception to the first and last will be reviewed as spreads.
You at most only need one establishing panel of the setting and environment (scene) per page.
Forget ātrue to lifeā perspective outside of the establishing panel). Practice diagonal composition of objects and subjects within panels. For dynamism.
You donāt have to present the text all in one go (one paragraph or bubble). You can and should break up paragraphs, sentences, and if you need to single out wordsā to make smaller, more easily managed bubbles to scatter through the panel.
Less important moments have smaller panels and or lesser detail. More details (or more word bubbles) slow down time. More drawn detail also creates a concentration of values (itās darker and sometimes combines together as one shape or mass)
Know your light sources. Control the blacks. Control the values.
