The picrew is couple maker
oh who am i listening to? nahh u probably haven’t heard of him, he’s like a very niche artist called the vampire lestat…
I fucking love that Claudia literally made up the train story. There wasn’t any part of truth in it. I didn’t think they’d go there because of how much they’ve softened all of these characters, but they really committed.
And guess what? It didn’t change a thing about how Louis and Lestat treated her. She’s still a victim. Still a bandaid for a shitty marriage. Still a roof shingle that flew off of their house. They still doomed her to an eternity of misery.
I do think Lestat saw her the most clearly though. He saw how monstrous she could be and loved her all the more for it, not in spite of it. Stained Glass Eyes, while self-indulgent, is more about how he thinks she might react to him rather than purely his own grief. He was complicit in killing her, after all. It doesn’t mean he can’t love her. Love between vampires can be countless things.
I know people post this quote a lot, but it’s a really good one.
“And I cannot say even now that I regret Claudia... Claudia was my dark child, my love, evil of my evil. Claudia broke my heart."
something that’s haunting me after “Toronto” is seeing the scene of Claudia’s turning in a new light after watching the unraveling of Nicky. Especially these lines:
She will be at war with herself.
Her emotions will soar and plummet, mountains and valleys every day of her life.
She will be miserable and you will love her.
And it will spiral beyond your reach!
You will regret this for the rest of your life.
The first time I watched this scene during the trial episode, I wasn’t sure if Lestat had witnessed this kind of thing with a child before, or if he was just sort of using logic and the wisdom of his years to see how vampirism would wreak havoc on someone who was turned as a child. The “you will regret this for the rest of your life” seems like someone speaking from experience, but alas, I wasn’t sure if it was just Lestat’s patronizing arrogance speaking for him.
I always read the lines “you will love her and it will spiral beyond your reach” to be about Louis, especially at this point in the show, because Louis really was miserable, and it seemed Lestat couldn’t do anything about it except this one thing that he knew would blow up in their faces… and yet Louis’s favor was something he couldn’t bear to pass up.
but now, after Toronto, it’s so clear that absolutely all of this was Lestat reliving Nicky, and the mistakes he made, and trying to spare Louis from making the same ones. I’m not even sure Lestat was aware of it at the time??? As he seems pretty adept at suppressing his trauma. But the height of his emotions in this moment speaks to the fact that this is almost definitely a PTSD fear response. A therapist once told me “if it feels hysteric, it’s probably historic” and that’s what his behavior is giving in that scene.
I find this unbelievably devastating because of what Lestat says about Nicky in Toronto, how he loved him from the moment he saw him, how he was engulfed by love for him, but now, hundreds of years later, he’s not sure that was even true, if he really meant it.
but it is so clear from that scene from Claudia that he did. He does. He still carries Nicky with him. he carries everything with him. i.e., you will regret this for the rest of your life

It seems like people are automatically assuming that ghost Claudia is 100% telling the truth in regards to her feelings towards Lestat and Louis rather than saying things she knows will hurt Louis out of rage at being stuck in purgatory while he reads her diary entries to her rapist and gets back together with his ex who abused her. Ghost Claudia is clearly in so much pain over her death and separation from Madeleine and is lashing out in the only way she can.
I really don’t think the seance is retconning the Louclaudia relationship into her always having preferred Lestat. I think it makes it clear that Claudia was more easily able to manipulate Louis than he was aware of, or wanted to be aware of. But I also think the ambiguity and the fine line between love and hate remains.
really struck by how claudia grieving madeleine seems to be the thing that gets most to lestat during the seance. he only starts to cry when claudia tells them that she can’t find her companion, that’s she’s been alone this entire time. and of course this is what would get to him. the thing he fears the most is loneliness. so knowing that his daughter found a companion only to lose her again in death. it’s devastating
lestat provoking louis with an affair to get his attention and gabriella using sex to provoke lestat and get his attention
surely these two things have nothing to do with one another
the first episode he spends entirely with louis is also the first where he doesn’t hallucinate even one person. i’m going to be sick

people need to understand that claudia meant every word she said during the seance but that doesn't mean it was always true. she's had what, 80 some years alone in hell? with nothing to do but fester in her thoughts and anger? she can't even have peace in the afterlife? of course she fucking hates them now! of course she's recontextualized her entire life through the lens of suffering and bitterness and revenge. they BONDED back together over her death!!! that doesn't mean louis and lestat's memories of happy years with her are wrong- she just cannot possibly see them that way anymore. they GET to miss her and mourn her but she can't do that. of COURSE all her good memories are tainted. she hates them that much because she used to love them and it wasn't good enough.
what gets you is not that louis and lestat love each other and still love each other though they hate each other because they cannot live without each other, we knew that. what gets you is that they are friends. it takes us two seasons of toxic gothic "i was under his spell" sort of romance to admit that, beside all that, they just like each other. they feel easy and at home in each other's company. they're giggling and cracking each other up. making easy conversation. they're bantering and bickering like an old married couple, because they ARE, and they DO know each other best of anyone. they DO trust each other above all else. they know which buttons to push to drive each other up the wall, and they know when they need to drop the argument and hold the other close. way beyond words, they know each other. their souls are scissoring. nobody talk to me
In the early years following Claudia’s arrival, nothing much happened inside 1132 Rue Royal. There were no grand parties. No shocking calamities. The days seemed utterly empty, but everything splendid was in them.
