anime girl who at first doesn't mind her best friend being the protagonist, because she's happy to be with her and share in her joys and sorrows, but as time goes on and it becomes increasingly clear how much the narration favours the protagonist and uses every side character simply to reinforce the protagonist's character development, and that starts to make the anime girl resent her best friend and the narration by extension, because even when they share tender moments together, even when her friend helps her or vice versa, all of it only served to further the protagonism of her friend, so eventually she heel turned and became the villain, determined to destroy her best friend so she would no longer simply be a side character. naturally, her friend tries to save her and bring her back, but she refuses, realizing that agreeing would simply once again reinforce the protagonist's character at the expense of everyone else, and that so long as they exist within this story, they will never be free of the shackles of narration. once her friend recognizes this too, she decided that the only way out is to stop being the protagonist - not just that, but to stop being in the story altogether. the anime girl is frightened by this idea and relents, but her friend insists that this way, they will finally be free to be together again - without the eye of narration forcing them to play any roles in any story. the story ends abruptly when the two of them join hands and vanish from the story, and never again appear in a sequel or prequel or any other story taking place in the same setting; it is as though they had never existed at all, but it is only in this nonexistence that they can truly be free and happy
